It's almost uncanny how the film crew managed to miss the guitarist who was performing nearly every solo. Still, a great band at their peak, live with no studio jiggery pokery. You're welcome, England, for this set. One of the greatest Rock and Roll live performances ever caught on tape.
They completely missed Billy's piano solo as well. I mean they had a lot of camera angles but somehow in editing it got screwed up. Maybe someday someone will go through the originals and get it right.
If anyone is aware of a better rock instrumental performance, please lmk. Ronnie ain’t no slouch either ha. But this 3 guitar lineup, good grief. Gaines sounds like he’s shot out of a cannon. Gary makes a guitar sing like no other, always. And when Collins plays, you damn well always know who it is. The driving baseline of Leon and punchy drums of Artimus are symphonic and as powerful as it gets musically. Oh yeah, just to remind everyone that no band has a better rock pianist, Billy Powell solo, why not.
You just know that Ronnie is smiling at Cassie Gains when Steve is ripping. It just looks like he is thinking "Hell yes Cass, he is the real deal." Notice at 4:40 that Steve is doing the same kind of dirty lick that Gary Rossington does that also made Ronnie smile. I just think that the angle that he is looking is behind Steve Gains which would aim him right at the Honkett's and it makes perfect sense because Cassie networked Steve into the band and he brought a whole new life to the band.
Yes! Because this was his audition! He’s definitely smiling at nodding to Cassie. Gary rossington spoke about this as you probably already know. You can hear steve tune up at the start. They told him what key and did a quick practice before the show and they said Steve acted like he didn’t even care and he came out and played this song and left on their tourbus after the concert as member! Such a sick story. !
@@bigbb416-5 This WAS NOT his audition. He'd been in the band 3 months by the time they played Knebworth and it was the largest crowd (by far)Lynyrd Skynyrd ever played in front of.Do you really think Ronnie Van Zant, being the perfectionist he was, would audition an unknown guitar player live onstage in front of their biggest audience ever😅???
Lost count of how many turntable needles I wore out listening to this song from their “One More From the Road” album back in the late 70s. That’s one bad ass southern jam session!
They censored the 1976 live album cover of theirs. Had a bird with a rebel flag. Thank goodness! I sure was offended by a flag! So glad they changed it to a picture of the southern states. What a relief! Now I can listen to that album! 🤦♂️
Just remember....Always be ready, and "Don't let that flag hit the ground"..... One the of best bands performing one of the best songs ever.... I'd say 90% had no idea what they had just witnessed.....
I researched testimonials and comments from the folks who attended this show. The consensus among attendees is that Skynyrd blew the Stones off the stage. Several said the Stones arrived late for their set and played an average, somewhat sloppy performance. This show proves Skynyrd was one of the best, if not the best live band of their time.
He sang it in American English, it was played in international musical notes, but I believe it should not be translated into other languages. In order to listen to the spirit of the song you have to believe in Texas and believe in Tennessee. In order to sing the song you have to know what you are singing about!!!!
Nice to think that the legendary rock music of Skynryd is being enjoyed down there in Brazil, where they speak in Portuguese and dance to the samba....
Jacksonville's finest... these guys practiced their asses off before they got spotted by a promotor....it definitely shows up in their live performances from way back in the day...

It's almost uncanny how the film crew managed to miss the guitarist who was performing nearly every solo. Still, a great band at their peak, live with no studio jiggery pokery. You're welcome, England, for this set. One of the greatest Rock and Roll live performances ever caught on tape.
You'll find it on UA-cam! Exactly what you looking for Gary's solo is the best ever!!!!!!
They completely missed Billy's piano solo as well. I mean they had a lot of camera angles but somehow in editing it got screwed up. Maybe someday someone will go through the originals and get it right.
I honestly don't know who was more stoned...the band, the crowd, or the director.
Allen Collins killing it
I'm a fan from the beginning ,love it still
Great seeing Ronnie smile so big. Steve put a new fire in them.
Great shots of him singing. Great song. The audience was probably hot and tired but man they needed to MOVE their bodies for that performance!
Amen!
Você consegue ver a modéstia em cada um deles, banda totalmente despretensiosa e fez tanto por nós. Como eu te amo, Ronnie.
Would love to have seen Duane Allman and Steve play killer slide together!!! That would have been awesome!!!
The very first note on that bass gets me every time. Would have loved to see this live💕
Goddamn these boys can play, and Ronnie knows it.
Steve Gaines is such a class act
He makes me proud to be an Okie.
Ronnie was the Clint Eastwood of Southern Rock. Best. He's my top 5 singers of all time.
Great song writer to sir...
DON" T LET THAT FLAG HIT THE GROUND, MR. VAN ZANT COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER, COUSIN FIGEL
They censored the 1976 live album cover of theirs. Had a bird with a rebel flag. Thank goodness! I sure was offended by a flag! So glad they changed it to a picture of the southern states. What a relief! Now I can listen to that album! 🤦♂️
In fact, you can see for yourself

@@lukeswain1752 i know.. it’s ridiculous beyond all belief. Make America Sane Again, sweet Lord 🙏
Ronnie Vanzant was the coolest frontman in rocking roll history.
And he pissed off Mick jagger going out on the tongue
Watching this still sends shivers up my spine...what a great band....
Greatest guitar 🎸 orchestra ever 🌈🎸🎶
Just remember....Always be ready, and "Don't let that flag hit the ground"..... One the of best bands performing one of the best songs ever.... I'd say 90% had no idea what they had just witnessed.....
I researched testimonials and comments from the folks who attended this show. The consensus among attendees is that Skynyrd blew the Stones off the stage. Several said the Stones arrived late for their set and played an average, somewhat sloppy performance. This show proves Skynyrd was one of the best, if not the best live band of their time.
@@chuckm4540 Good work... Amen
My exact thought!!! I've loved these guys all my life.
Yup..... absolutely no idea!
I noticed his words instantly. I was a young FreeBird in those days.
One of the best songs ever hands down
What is , and what can never be.
The tightest and best musicians that will ever grace this planet
Whenever I see Ronnie look at Steve Gaines you know he’s thinking: “man I’m so smart for putting this guy Steve Gaines in the band”. Skynyrd forever
My GOD!!! Best Rock Band ever!!!❤️❤️❤️
He sang it in American English, it was played in international musical notes, but I believe it should not be translated into other languages. In order to listen to the spirit of the song you have to believe in Texas and believe in Tennessee. In order to sing the song you have to know what you are singing about!!!!
Best band that ever existed in the music business that’s all I listen to every single day
Nice to think that the legendary rock music of Skynryd is being enjoyed down there in Brazil, where they speak in Portuguese and dance to the samba....
RONNIE VANZANT AND THE BAND there will never be another in the land that will ever be like this again.
Ronnie’s look at 4:06. He knew they were cookin.
Great guitar playing 🎸🎸
Ronnie was such a fucking leader man....fuck I'm inspired ✨🙌
Say what you want but blues/folk/southern rock is the best live music . Listening to this with a tube amplifier and Klipsch speakers
Thank GOD you saved it. Sounds like good quality.
.In His Service.
Pappy at 316.
Epic ....nah ...LEGENDARY UPLOAD !
They blew the Stones of the stage.
yep)
FOR YA''LL THAT DON'T KNOW, TEXAS AND TENNESSE HAVE VERY, VERY CLOSE TIES GOING BACK TO THE LATE 1700s!
Jacksonville's finest... these guys practiced their asses off before they got spotted by a promotor....it definitely shows up in their live performances from way back in the day...
The best rock group ever
Hands down.
See how the camera don’t flip every 5 seconds like the concerts today? Yah actually see the band! Looks like everything older is always better !
