Frankly, I still think Kaido > Shanks. Shanks's narrative importance doesn't rely on him being stronger, while Kaido's entire reputation was built around how strong he was. Shanks is a powerhouse with a strong crew, fame and influence. That's what being a great pirate is about, and that's enough for him to still be narratively relevant. As of now, the Red Hair Pirates still surpass the Straw Hat pirates in power, influence and fame, and Luffy's promise was that his crew would surpass Shanks crew, not that he would personally become stronger than him.
Now of course, Shanks is obviously one of the top fighters in the verse, definitely in the top 10. His CoC especially seems particularly strong, and even though he lost his arm, he can probably still give Mihawk a fight worth remembering.
But feats like one-shotting Kidd don't put him above Kaido or Big Mom, because they both could do the same thing, if it came to it.
Shanks simply doesn't play when it comes to protecting those he cares about, so he went straight for the kill, with an attack that was sure to end the fight swiftly. That's like Kaido using "Destroyer of Death Thunder Bagua" on Kidd right away, it's a guaranteed one-shot.
Kidd was getting bodied by Misery, a non ACoC (not even ACoA) technique, and with Law, they never K.O'd Big Mom with their own strength, even after the most powerful Puncture Willie ever, the internal damage/body weakening it does + 2 straight shots of Damned Punk, she didn't lose consciousness.
They simply managed to throw her in a lava pit. Had she not fallen there, she would have gotten back up, and killed them both, as they were both getting too exhausted to keep fighting at that level. So Kidd is not there yet, makes sense that a serious Shanks could one-shot him.
Yes, completely agreed. I think Oda was trying very hard to make Kaido look like the strongest pirate in the world without a Doubt, comparing himself with Joyboy truly believing Joyboy was God legend. If you think about it he is the prodigy of pirates, he has a history even more impressive than Roger and WB prime. He was 15 when he joined the most powerful crew earning power and experience fighting among the most powerful pirates of all time. Whiteboard, Shiki, Roger, Big mom, Garp, Sengoku, we’re at least 10 years older than Kaido but his powers and skills made him a name to be in the same tier as them, Kaido being only a teenager!! Then he grows up and NO ONE wants to fight him, not even Whitebeard the most powerful pirate in the world supposedly, Whitebeard all he cared about was having his family (his pirate crew), Kaido not only killed one of the closest family member of WB, but massacre his country and his legacy, humiliated his descendants and embarrassing Odens reputation. He basically gave the biggest of disrespects to Withebeards family and he said he didn’t wanted to fight Kaido. He was on his PRIME!! An old WB past beyond his prime would not care to fight the hole Marineford for avoiding that to ONLY Ace, not Ace and all he cares about, like his hometown, family and reputation. Kaido until this day is the most powerful being we have actually seen fighting, he even made us doubt if G5 was enough to defeat him. Kaido top One piece villian ever!

Speaking nothing but the truth. Shanks can't be the end goal-post for Luffy's power cause that isn't his role in the story - that's for either BB or Imu. The role dynamic between Shanks and Luffy is not one of power as many people think.
Their promise was that he'd return the hat to him once he became a "great" pirate like Shanks and clearly not the "strongest" pirate. Because it was never about that; the promise that Shanks and Luffy were bound by, it was one of character, morals and achievements of greater good for the world.
Luffy never admired how strong Shanks was but rather what he stood for and how he carried himself as a pirate, that's what Luffy strives to be like. That's why people flock around Shanks and Luffy, it's what makes them special and known as "great pirates".

Shanks is the successor of Roger and with the amount of power creep in the series this may suggest the newer generation is stronger than a lot of the older guys, which is why I say as a successor it may make sense to assume Shanks is stronger than Roger

There's something I want to say. People don't focus on narrative and just focus on feats. For eg, some people consider Luffy's base form stronger than full power current Zoro, which is feats wise true but narrative wise not even close. What the narrative has been always potraying is that Zoro is increasing Luffy's reputation by being his 2nd in command. The people automatically see Luffy as huge threat when they see that someone like Zoro serves under him. Zoro has been a major reason for Luffy's hype for the entire pre time skip. The narrative still continued after timeskip when Zoro commented on Luffy's power in Fishman island. Even during rooftop Zoro was Luffy's hype tool. Zoro used advanced coating against Kaido and Kaido mentioned that the strongest among strongest can only do such a thing. But Luffy learnt it too, again hyping him using Zoro.
So Narrative wise, Luffy is only a little ahead of Zoro and Zoro's end goal could even make him on par with Luffy even if the feats says otherwise.
Similarly, Zoro and Sanji are not close even if there feats say so, Zoro has the narrative to be the world's strongest swordsman and Sanji doesn't have any power related narrative. They don't have a power rivalry, they have a comedic rivalry. They are not like Goku and Vegeta, they are different. The actualy rivalry is between the captain and the first mate which even Zoro says if Luffy can't do any better then he has to take over.
Even if the feats say Luffy can one shot Zoro, this will never happen in reality. The battle would always be like Akainu and Aokiji. If we start going by feats then Roger, Whitebeard and Garp are just play dolls in front of Kaido, but in reality all four of them are at par with each.

I agree with most of what you said but I don't believe Zoro is that close to Luffy anymore. In pre-time skip this would have been the case. The one thing you fail to consider is that, although it's true Zoro has the portrayal to otherwise combat Luffy's feats - Luffy has both feats and portrayal, so it's different from what you express in your comment.

The problem is that people assume a Character's power solely because of their Feats and Reputation.
Such is when people assume a Yonko is stronger that Admirals just because Green Bull ran away from Shanks. And because Whitebear beat Akainu despite Whiterbear cheap shot Akainu.
And because Shanks intimates Kizaru even though Kizaru was calm during those moments. Despite being an Admiral, Green Bull is certainly not strong enough to fight red-haired Shanks.
Also not all Admirals and Yonko are in the same levels. That means each Yonko, Admirals, and Warlords are in different levels. Not all Yonkos, Admirals, and Warlords are in the same levels from each others.
Also a fight isn't always determined by Strength, but also by Intelligence and Skills. No matter how strong you are, unless you are a good fighter, your strength is useless.
It is like having the most powerful Assault Rifle, but if you don't how to use it then it is useless in your hands.
So, I will not assume Shanks is stronger unleas I see him in action for real, and not because his Reputations and Feats alone.

I believe Shanks to be the Gatekeeper of The current GEN. Only when Luffy surpasses Shanks will he achieve The ONE PIECE. As for Shanks being the Strongest Character? YES! He is the strongest Character before the Dam breaks loose. By this i mean, Only when Luffy finds the One Piece, the Greatest war that Whitebeard hyped up before his demise will begin. The Greatest/Strongest Antagonist of the series will come into play. The World Government. Imu and the Gorosei. I believe they are the Endgame Big Bads. To be the free-est man on the sea he will liberate the world. Shanks, Mihawk, Akainu, Kizaru will all be dealt with before that.
Only enigma to me is BB. Don't know what Oda is planning with him. Regardless i still consider IMU to be the final threat.
Shanks isn't the strongest character when Imu, Dragon, and Mihawk are still alive. Narratively, Shanks can't be top 1 when Mihawk exists, unless you're telling me a swordsman is stronger than the world's strongest swordsman.

A swordsman doesn’t have to be physically stronger then someone to beat them. Zoro is a perfect example of this, he’s beaten many people that were better then him either with haki and or physically stronger then him, because he was a superior swordsman.
Does that mean mihawk can beat shanks? Idk they were rivals who had many impressive battles, and that rivalry only ended because he lost his good arm and mihawk labeled him a has been.
I’d like to imagine shanks beefed up his haki and physical strength after losing his good arm as well as his ability to use his weaker arm. Which is only a logical assumption considering he went on to be a Yonko

1 - In my experience I get the idea that Shanks COULD be stronger and not have the title just by not reclaiming it after he lost the duel (I don't believe he is, but he could by that logic).
2 - The first kinda answers that, if Shanks got a lead in the growth curve and never went to get the worst title in the verse, that would be it.
3 - Mihawk has a black blade and only lives to fight people, I guess that some people would stick by him being actually the strongest, but some would just switch because le word of mouth

I am half way through the video but I wanted to point out this: there is this theory that says that originally shanks was indeed luffy final goal, luffy saying that he will have a crew stronger than shanks's can be linked to the possibility that initially Oda wanted shanks to be luffy final opponent, and to support this the theory says that originally mihawk was intended to be the right hand man of shanks while benn the left one, so that the final match up would have been shanks Vs luffy, zoro vs mihawk and sanji Vs benn. To further support of this sanji was originally planned to be a gunsman just like benn and both benn and sanji are simps for girls. Also oda wanted the series the end in like 5 years, so it makes sense that the final opponent would have been showed that early.

One of the reasons I think Dragon is top 5 is cuz there’s only 1 character who heads a major organization in the show who isn’t the strongest in it. That’s Yonko Buggy. But literally every other organization, the head of their shit is the strongest. Every important pirate crew, the marines (if you think Old Garp n Sengoku are stronger then alkainu your buggin, but they r also exceptions cuz Garp actively declined the position n Sengoku was already the head), hell even the pirate kings crew. So why would the Rev army be any different. And when u get to the level of importance that the Rev army is (a level comparable to Yonko crews and Marines then u tend to see the leader being an order of magnitude stronger than everyone else. Kaido, Big Mom, Shanks might be an exception based on what’s been said about his crew, the admirals are bodying any vice admiral but Garp.

We have zero evidence shanks got stronger over the timeskip and if he did it's not to the degree that akainu did who literally went 10 days with another top tier. A 8 hour fight gives you Haki blooms, imagine 10 days

I don't know if I have already commented it on this channel or not, but here is how I view Shanks. I type this before watching the video.
I see Shanks as a bridge that connects the old and the new generations and to be honest, I think he is the perfect person suited for this role, both power and importance-wise. I do think he will be on Roger's level, so BB and Luffy will surpass the old gen through him. I do still believe in ''BB defeats Shanks'' theory so that's that.
I don't think the power scaling will be doomed cuz Shanks will be equal to or stronger than Roger, cuz I did not perceive Roger as the strongest character of all time after learning about Joyboy and other characters like him.
Where does Shanks stand in terms of power scaling right now? He is in my top 5, which is very much w.i.p. I can confidently say that he is below Mihawk and Imu tho, could be below Akainu and Dragon(depending on how story goes) and will get surpassed by BB eventually.

I agree with all of this, except one big point that everyone seems to always forget. Worlds strongest SWORDSMAN means strongest WITH A SWORD. That doesnt mean that mihawk could beat kaido if kaido knew swordplay, nor does knowing swordplay make kaido thw strongest swordsman. Theres an entire plethora of other powers in the series, and i fully believe that with these, shanks and mihawk are probably still basically dead even

His crew is inferior, his right hand (who is implied to be close to shanks) is inferior to Rayleigh, he has one less arm than Roger, shanks hasn't accomplished what Roger has, Roger went toe to toe with prime Garp, shanks clashed with old wb not using his df while Roger clashed with prime wb. And there's zero reason to believe shanks got stronger over the timeskip

I think that shanks will try stopping luffy from claiming the one piece and they'll fight. Shanks will just do this to see how luffy has grown. First issue Ill mention which echoes throughout the entire video. Oda has already stated the series ends when Luffy finds the one piece. That’s what the story is all about. Nothing else to tell after that. Plus we’re already headed for that war Oda mentioned so I highly doubt any of that will come AFTER Luffy finds it.
Second issue I’ll mention is the fact that being stronger than shanks and beating him is indeed one of luffys goals, he stated as much when he said he can’t be pirate king if he doesn’t beat all the Yonko. He knew good and well that shanks was a Yonko at that moment.
Third thing Ill point out, shanks is not apart of Rogers generation of pirates, he’s the generation after, and the generation before Luffy. So yes it’s is possible that the generation of pirates that came after Roger could have someone who surpassed him.
4th thing I’ll point out, zoro hasn’t been stronger then most the people he went up against, but he beat them due to his superior swordsmanship. Making him a greater swordsman, which matters since his goal is to be the greatest swordsman. Someone can have the strongest sword skills and not physically be stronger than someone or better then them at something else. Skipping over that in your video just for the sake of saying mihawk should be stronger really doesn’t add up.

Logically I’d say shanks is the one closest to being pirate king, and for the most part that’s without him trying for all those years. He went on the journey with Roger up until the last island, and he has the power and crew to back that title up as well. I’d say that definitely puts him closest to finding it he just lacked the desire to do so for a long time.
Narratively shanks has been displayed recently as a gatekeeper for the one piece, it is possible Luffy has to get past shanks to make it to the one piece at the end, and this could all happen after the big war on the horizon since the one piece is meant to be the last thing to happen in the series.
