2017 kia sportage 147km (country driven) and several trips to dealer to repair knock sensor - it is on "lifetime" warranty but the hassle is soooo not worth it. Last trip to dealer 3 days ago - they completed bearing clearing test, completed 478 ECU upgrade to flashing P1326, supposedly did road test to prove flashing CEL and DTC gone - but when I try to drive home and reach 100km/hr -- immediately engine decelerates and engine lite flashes again. Now waiting for tow truck to haul it back to dealer (all at no charge) and will wait for dealer to try try again to fix knock sensor --- very disappointed in KIA
The liftgate will stay unlocked if the fob is in your pocket, or say, within about 0.5 to 1 meter range. Lock doors farther away, and lift gate will be locked.
I've had a 2017 Sportage diesel AWD for 5 years without any problems at all - the most reliable vehicle I've owned and I've been driving since the 60's. If the latest models are the same or better I have no reservations toward getting another later model Sportage :) The only thing that bugged me was the headlights which use a solenoid shutter to switch low/high beam IE there's no extra high beam bulb, just a single filament bulb so there's no extra light output in high beam mode (just the shutter cutting of the beam in low beam mode. Got around it by mounting LED driving lamps on the nudge bar controlled by a relay triggered by the signal to the shutter solenoids - can see everything now when on a dark country road at night (wild animals are suicidal in these parts).
1. The knock sensor is currently a recall issue with KIA. Make sure the dealer updates the software AND the knock sensor wiring harness, both of these MUST be done! There is currently a class action lawsuit settlement over this issue, Kia has agreed to extend the warranty for this component to 100,000 miles. 2. the evaporator sensor is covered up to 5 year 60,000 mile warranty by KIA. I've personally had these issues with my 2018 Sportage LX AWD.
I've also got a 2016 Tucson ECO. I started doing a carbon clean 2 years ago after I learned about them, my 2017 Sportage started using oil about 50,000 or so, now at 68,000 it uses 1 qt. in 350 miles, going to Kia for a carbon clean today.
Stay away from Kia 4 cylinders, all of them, even the 2.5L, unless you do an intake cleaning every 8000 miles or so. A Korean mechanic explains why they start using oil, the top ring is too close to the top of the piston, and once carbon from the pcv and gdi systems build up, the ring gets stuck, allowing oil to blow by, eventually scoring the piston walls if you wait too long. So even if you have the carbon cleaned out, you no longer have a good seal. I have a Tucson which is so far fine at 48,000 miles, 1.6L turbo. And a Sportage at 68,000 miles that drinks a half a qt. of oil in 160 miles...It's going in for a carbon cleaning, if it's not resolved by Kia, it's gone. Since I know about running Seafoam or CRC thru the pcv system now, I may be able to keep the Tucson cleaned up. I looked up the RDX and they've been using GDI since 2006, I also looked up a piston for the 2.0L Turbo RDX and compared it to the Kia 4 cylinders, looks like the top ring in the Acura is twice the distance from the top of the piston as Kia's.
I have a 2017 Sportage Fe fwd with the 2.4L I’ve been having issues with the transmission it’ doesn’t happen all the time. Trans will jump into gear around 55-60 …. I’ll go to accelerate getting on the highway to merge and that’s when it happens usually … mainly in the morning almost like I should let the car warm up longer Other then that the car shifts and drives flawlessly
Never had this issues. But a known issue is the motors for the power windows, the mechanism fails after couple years due to poor design of the gears of the motor which are plastic and not very durable at all, I don't know if this issue was solved with the face-lift models.
The worse thing about these is the rear turn signals and bad drivers cutting you off in them thinking you should be able to see their low light when they are only inches ahead of you it the other lane.
I have a 2017 sportage sx and the only two problems I've had so far is the driver door latch actuator failed and the hvac blending door actuator has failed. The blending door actuator was an easy fix $45 but the driver door latch actuator was more of a pain to basically disassemble the entire door to fix a $110 part.
I have AWD turbo diesel 2016 I havent had any issue. I service car every once a year is a must. Only problem I have is all my 3 electric window gears are all shredded thats attatched to the motor and the 4th will soon be shredded as well. And does not work. Had to watch tutorial on youtube how open to check to find problem coz it cost $150 each door window just for them to look for problem. I found problem myself😅 Had to order it straight from china coz its cheaper the kia parts. Still trying to fix the first window not easy.
I reviewed this generation Kia Sportage in my channel! I must say it is very popular here in Belgium, everyone loves them, but it does have some identity issues in the interior design
My sportage ql 2017 also failed the aircon function, but it is not failed the whole function, for the driver side the function is fine and the passanger side can not making the cold wind, only getting the hot wind.

If you are checking for engine knocking and losing oil, there is a MUCH more severe problem. This is extremely alarming to hear on a top 5 issues list. I was about to buy a 2018 or 2022 Sportage but I think I’ll opt to something different.
I am having a problem with the air was stuck on for a bit and now the heater is stuck on. It was working fine a week ago and now all I have is heat. I did put in a new air conditioner system last summer. There is no ticking sound coming and like I said a month ago the air conditioner was stuck on all the time in 10 F temp in morning I was thinking it got stuck due to the weather but now we are at 35 F in morning and 60 during the day.
My 2018 Sportage SX had a bad "Steering Wheel Angle Sensor" and they quoted me a $4200 repair estimate. I got rid of the car at that point. Not worth spending that much on an older Kia that was also burning a LOT of oil indicating future engine problems.
I have an issue where if I have it in the manual shift mode, when I shift into second the revs go up to around 4 and I have no power to accelerate. If it is in standard drive mode it’s fine. Any ideas why this happens?
I have the 2017 Kia Sportage and I have had the AC problem. My compressor was replaced after I waited 3 weeks for the part. #6) Air Bag light on. Cause? Yet to be determined. I PRAY it is a broken wire under passenger seat. If not, I am in for a world of hurt! #7)-Total Engine failure without warning. (Kia will replace for free, with a lifetime engine warranty.) #8)-Traction Control System issues due to faulty wheel speed sensors. #9)-P0366: Exhaust Cam Shaft Position Sensor. (Rear of engine by exhaust manifold) Caused from plug corrosion. #10)-Popping out of gear. At random, going low speed RPM's sometimes jump up out of nowhere, without vehicle moving faster. #11)- Window Regulators. The gear on the regulator, and on the motor are plastic. ---After a few years, your windows will not go down anymore. ---If you get them to go down, by playing with the switch, they will not go back up. ---The gears inside of the regulator will strip out, and the motor can no longer turn the gear to roll up, or down your window. The regulator (The size of the whole lower part of the door!) is $130.00. The motor is $70-$80. And even when you fix them, they will eventually fail again. Cheap Plastic on Plastic will never last. Especially if you live where it gets really hot. #12) "Minor issue"! Rubber cover on exterior, lift gate handle, gets brittle and cracks, exposing door release electronics. #13) Paint on door mirrors, and on top of rear spoiler look as if acid was poured on the paint. Clear coat failing? I purchased my 2017 Kia Sportage LX when working in sales for Kia. It now has 109k on it. Out of warranty, no doubt. The 2021 have all the same components as my 2017. Just a 'little" different design.
about number 6...if the light is on only when no one sits in there it is because it is supposed to do so, there is no reason to deploy a passenger airbag when there is no passenger so the light is on to let you know that the airbag is off until someone sits there. I own a 2017 kia sportage ex, zero issues so far.
Similar experience. Dry rotted Rear hatch rubber cover. Solution: purchased 2 replacement covers. Also, Paint on rear hatch spoiler looks like the moon surface. Must be repainted. Also driver side and, passenger door handle plastic button actuator was each replaced. Transmission replaced due to excessive slipping. AC compressor replaced due to clutch issues. Headlight cover yellowing. Clock in radio display disappeared.
The 2.4 litre engine is so problematic that Kia Canada will replace the engine if it fails with an UNLIMITED mileage warranty. Don't ask me how I know!
Shit right off the hop fixed the first problem lol I thought maybe I always hit the button or that the keys in my pocket allowed it to be unlocked but ya. ..that's not good
We had a 2016 KIA Soul that would get Check Engine light and shutter and sputter if we run Ethanol Fuel in it. We started using GATE Non-Ethanol fuel and the Check Engine light went off and car stared running fine. We just purchased a 2021 KIA Sportage and only use Gate, Shell and Exxon/Mobile Non-Ethanol fuel in it. We also started only using Non-Ethanol fuel in our other vehicles.

I will never buy a Sportage again. I’ve only had mine for four years and I’ve had so many problems with it.
The 2.4 litre engine is so problematic that Kia Canada will replace the engine if it fails with an UNLIMITED mileage warranty. Don't ask me how I know!
My car saw this video and thought it was a checklist.
Having All those problems
Shit right off the hop fixed the first problem lol I thought maybe I always hit the button or that the keys in my pocket allowed it to be unlocked but ya. ..that's not good
2020 no problem
i bought kia sportage last feb 2020, after reach 5k km, fuel injection got problem....
@@Jacdog Do a carbon clean up on all Korean 4 cylinders every 8,000 miles or so, or you maybe using 1 qt. of oil per 350 miles by the time it hits 68,000.
This nonsesense limp mode got me into an accident. No idea why this is even a thing..
Never had any of these problems
Because i don't have a car
I have the 2019 Sorento and it is junk. Shut the door and entire SUV thumps and rattles . Multiple issues with cruise control issues with check engine light for last 4 months. Even has jumped out of gear and rolled into neighbors mail box. 2nd occasion rolled into my wifes car behind me. Kia lies to me and does not honor anything. Stay Away from anything Kia
