What a truly brave lovely man and it makes me cry that Britain has lost its class. And this man reminds me of a Britain that no longer exists. His art is a reflection of this man's inner life and his taste and use of colour is of a person of an elevated soul.

Peter Mann: this film is wonderful to see. I knew your father when I was still at school and I used to go and stay at Lemmons with my friend, whose parents were great friends of Kingsley and Jane. The first two paintings I bought were by him ( £35 each quite a fortune for a student in the 70’s) Sargy made lots of drawings of me. I remember the intensity of those sessions with his face very close to mine and loud jazz music and the hot sun streaming through the windows. I have some very funny letters he wrote to me when I lived in Florence. It is the regret of my life that I wrote to him when I read some articles about a big exhibition he was having after he went completely blind. I never sent the letter. I didn’t find the address but it was pretty wet of me not to persevere or ask the gallery to pass it on. Your dad was so much fun. I loved how he roared with laughter so hard I thought he might fall backwards off his chair. His paintings back then were lovely, but the late stuff is quite extraordinary. What an amazing Dad to have. ( your mum looks like a legend too!) So I can’t write to Sargy anymore so I am writing this here in the hope you will someday see it.

Another painter told me about Sargy Mann today so i thought i would check it out. Im visually impaired with blindness in my right eye due to glaucoma and last year i decided to push my art and this year i have decided to teach myself painting. This is really inspiring and it makes me want to try new things in case in the future i lose my other eye. Much love from Atlantic Canada.
