  • Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world. And if you love amazing places, this is one for your bucket list.
    Not only does this lake, which sits at 12,507 feet above sea level, connect remote cities in both Peru and Bolivia, but it's home to some of the world's most amazing cultures.
    We had the chance to experience two very unique cultures in one incredibly special place. We visit the Uru people, who have been living on floating reed islands in Lake Titicaca for over 1,000 years, and the Taquileano people on Isla Taquile who have adapted to modern times on their own terms.

    I stayed on Isla Taquile a few years ago, It's a really peaceful place.Peru is an amazing country filled with so many indigenous cultures.The song that the Uru people sang for you when you left the island was really beautiful.

      It was beautiful. And the people were so friendly and welcoming. Especially for our children.

    This is a very different side of South America that very few people manages to showcase. You're indeed doing a great job by showing this culture to everyone. (Also, they stamped your passport? SO COOL!)

    Wonderful to be an honorary island leader! Looks like everyone did well with the altitude. That kept me from visiting but I wish I'd pushed through the discomfort that dogged me for days. Wonderful vlog.

    Such a cool video with lots of interesting information. I have learned about those floating islands on Lake Titicaca not that long ago and it quickly became an item on my travel bucket list. Last year we were blessed with an opportunity to visit Peru for seven days but we could not make it to Lake Titicaca but we definitely come back to Peru and spend some time there on the lake and take a tour to those islands.

    I really like this one Kev, or should I say your highness..lol. Getting behind the scenes your boys Aree really getting a serious culture injection which is absolutely fantastic and it is true that kids doen't need to speak the same language to communicate. It's something Adults need to learn again or try to remember. Great job!!!

    How many feet long and wide is
    the biggest Uros Floating Island would you guess?

    • @WanderingWagars
      @WanderingWagars  3 роки тому

      I would only be guessing, but probably around 400’ x 200’. They are all small villages with multiple huts on each one. Plenty of room to roam.

    • @SherrickDuncan
      @SherrickDuncan 3 роки тому

      400 feet long by 200 feet wide?
      That is H-U-G-E for an artificial island. Wow..... Amazing.

      I am making one in the ocean out of welded aluminum frame filled with sealed oxygen or closed cell foam filled rain barrels. Then with tarp and compost and soil and grass on top. That is why I wanted to know the biggest one they have pulled off so far.
