Found a tiny bar by my old apartment in Ontakesan and bought a bottle the first time. They fire etched my name into a wood plate that they put around it and kept it on the shelf. I'd drink from that when I would visit. It's such a great idea honestly--it establishes a pattern and connection to the place. I loved the owners and regulars there after no time at all. Some very wonderful memories.

Also, i do recommend going to golden gai no matter if you're with someone or solo, if your in a group, you might want to break it up to 2and2's and hit up different bars, or youæll miss the real golden gai experience.

we went to Aces in golden Gai under your recommendation Sho and got absoutely ripped off! We asked for some whiskey but nothing too expensive and were charged 2000 yen per shot of whiskey, that is extremely expensive! Aces also has no menu available for customer or prices listed on any of their drinks, So it’s Easy for them to overcharge tourists! Very disappointing Sho, you have lost our trust.
define bigger bars and what you're after, right outside of golden gai you also have The hub among other things, or further down the street Rockhalic, from dusk to dawn. if you're thinking about within golden gai, there is a map that will aprox show the size of the bars listed with names (not that easy for forigners to read) but fine the one with english name and use that for refference for the slightly bigger bars in Golden Gai.
My first Airbnb in Japan will be 10 min from Yamashita's bar. I'll definitely go when I land in early September.

This was one of my most favorite places in Shinjuku. My cousin and I climbed two stairs to get to a bar that had a loft. It was incredible.
