Was there this past weekend for the first time. Yeah, you have to wait a bit sometimes .. but it is so worth it when you get to ski down the mountain in relative isolation and peace. Never a crowd on the slopes and that is a unique and amazing experience. What a blast!
I love this vid. "Ski it if you can" doesn't always mean ski the diamonds if you can, referring to your abilities. It more so means ski the conditions if you can, meaning that they don't make snow, and it can be nasty. But awesome video!
I’m a lifelong skier (former racer, now glade/free ride junkie) from Ottawa... MRG has been number one on my hit list since I was a preteen gromlet. This is beautiful. I’ve been working full time for years since then, skiing local hills, got to ski Jay, Stowe, Whiteface and Cannon in high school, but Mad River remains my holy grail... I’m gonna ski it this winter, in a couple of months. I’m so enamoured with the idea of this place... seems like heaven on earth to me. The history and legacy captured in this video... that’s part of the reason I’ve worked towards this for so long. There’s the long single chair, no high speed detachables, no snowboarding, and most importantly; narrow, steep, bumped up trails with natural snow. Can’t wait. This is a cause I can get behind!
Funny seeing someone else from ottawa here. Only been to MRG once, but I’d take ski there anyday over jay peak. Whiteface is in a league of its own in the area, but Jay Peak probably has the best mountain with the absolutely worst lifts in the world. Instead of making the ski resort modern with installing detachables that don’t take 25 minutes to reach the top, or a funitel to replace the tram that can easily handle the windthe to get up a quarter of the mountain, but they built a water park off of fraudulent funds. MRG has the charm and right side of mountain to keep its iconic single, but jay peak is the equivalent of mont Tremblant with no detachables aside from one that hardly runs and is a crappy leitner one from the 90s. I also find the community at jay peak is very arrogant, rude, and unwelcoming so won’t be skiing there ever again. I wanna check out cannon tho
@@johnsmeith3913 Jay has gone a little downhill since they opened the Pump house Waterpark and the resort... I still adore that mountain but yeah there's an element of elitism I've experienced there. Still the best hill within spitting distance of MTL in my opinion. But that trip I took to MRG was a revelation. It's my favorite resort in the northeast for absolute sure. Cannon is a little out of the way but it's well worth it... its worth it for the tramline alone. Bring a neck tube.
Very beautiful video...here in Italy we have a single chairlift in Frabosa that has a similiar story like this one. I love single chairlifts. Save the single! :-D
You can upload at the midstation of Snubber Lift at Sugarloaf. However, you can't unload and then have someone else quickly load the same chair as it passes by.
Why is it that Midstation always gets shafted in these historical videos & books? The most unique thing about the Single Chair is that you can actually upload at mid. Sometimes, a skier is uploaded into a chair that is simultaneously being unloaded. Of course, my opinion as the midstation manager for the past 9 years is certainly biased....but there isn't another fixed-grip chairlift in this country that you can upload into partway up the mountain
I love how they try to glorify an ancient single chair lift like it's some historical landmark. When really they cling to it because some bitter old Karen didn't like snowboarders and they use it to keep them out. Maybe you wouldn't have to bum money from the state and everyone else if you ran a successful mountain and weren't stuck in the 60's.

Beautiful !!! save all old single chairlifts !!! here in Norway we only have one again, (from early 60).
In Austria, it's not better. :(
Many thanks to Meg, Paul, PTV, SMF and to anyone who worked on or donated to the Single Chair Campaign!!!
GOGOGO Mad River Glen!

Yeah you def sound like those annoying boomer skier's that constantly complain about boarders. MRG is def the place for you.

Heading there in a few weeks

We must keep the one chair life around
Was just here today. Not nearly enough snow due to the melt but they were making it! So i headed to sugarbush in meantime
who is the artist of this song?
This is a good video, I like it
That chair looks like it is difficult to get onto!

Sunday Rivers Locke Mountain triple you can load at the midpoint. Fixed grip, triple and doesn't have a stupid ban on other snow sports.
LOL ITS C-RAD
