I never met the man but as a teenager I wrote Les a letter ... and he wrote back. Incredible to think a guy of him stature would take the time to reply. Thanks Les.

Les and Johnny filled my Sundays as a kid. Both were champions.
Even in France we have heard of him, so sad he left us, laszlo urge you was a legend , i will never forget during my stay in Australia as i always looked forward to see him on TV and this was so long ago i forgot many things but never les murray , i was with many aussies that night in 2005 and what a party, RIP Les

This was a golden generation, who could very well made it to the semi final, another dodgy penalty for italie , a great dive if i ever saw one, to see Australia going out like this was heartbreaking as i have no doubt extra time would have worn out the Italians, at least oZ can say they lost to the winner, no shame there!
Sadly for Australia it happened twice already, at the world cup in Qatar they lost too to Argentina, eventual World Cup Winners, the Aussies make us proud every time. !!

RIP Les Murray.
This was a really great piece. So much of my childhood in that story on so many levels. I grew up watching Les all the time on The World Game, every weekend, and got to watch this all unfold over the years, starting out as a 6 year old playing 'soccer' in Australia during the early 90's. Was good to relive all that in this short video. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't have to fight back some allergies :)
how from laszlo urge did he became les murray ? He was a great ambassador for Aussies football and this documentary is excellent thru and thru , one of the best i ever watched , keep the game up down under

He wanted an Anglo-Saxon name to fit in once he emigrated to Australia, and the words 'les' and 'murray' have geographical meanings in Hungarian (not sure about the spelling, though).
That was the game we should've won 🏆

It's the only blight on the game of soccer.Players needing to take a dive to get ahead instead of relying on their talent and skill.It's an absolute disgrace at that level of competition and to the game as a whole.It always will be for me.
How can you disappear in that situation.Are you not allowed to defend your goal,your team and your country against the best in the world.There was no malice or intent whatsoever.It's as plain as day.Anybody can see that.I feel so sorry for you Lucas.I feel sorry for the team and I feel sorry for Australia.I don't know what else you could of done.
I can accept being beaten fairly and squarely but to win like that is aweful.It's disgusting.Absolutely robbed and cheated.The game of soccer,you can hold your head in shame everytime this happens !!!

Still regret the ref gave Italy the soft non-penalty-i love Italy but this was a moment of embarassment-grosso collapsing and feigning-todaya. yellow to him. still, we shouldnt hav allowed him to act like the prick he was. i know we dont play that way, and this was a ref decision that rewarded some of the worst in soccer...but we were the better team...
