I finally jumped ship and purchased my first ever Criterion releases a few days ago. They were, La Bamba and the really excellent silent movie called Safety Last! They had plenty of special features on them and the picture and sound quality was excellent! 👌
Good for you! I started buying Criterions just 3 years ago and now have close to 40. Would have a lot more but budget has a say, in addition to also purchasing non Criterion titles. I think my very first Criterion purchase was The Great Beauty that I had seen on Criterion Channel, and to this day it is in my top 3 all time Criterion favorites.
OMG! My local B&N! I am really happy that this particular store has a huge Criterion selection. I live in Brooklyn and the two local B&N stores (in walking distance) do not carry physical media from any boutique label. The only other B&N stores in Manhattan that carry Criterion selections are one on Fifth Ave (in midtown) and one on the upper west side. I try to avoid going to the Fifth Ave store because of the heavy tourist traffic around there. But if I order it for pick up, I can get in and out quickly. I haven't been to the UWS store (on Broadway somewhere in the 80's, I think), at all. Luckilly all of these B&N locations are near subway lines so I don't have to walk too far. Although I like the Union Square store, as you can see that entire wall is ALL of the Criterion selection. I've watched UA-cam clips of people shopping in B&N in other parts of the country (a lot in the Midwest) where the selections are sometimes double the NYC stores. This November I picked up about 25 titles to add to my library! I can't wait until July for the next sale! Great video!
I was at the 5th Ave B&N last Saturday. Bought Le Samourai 4K, Chop Shop Blu-Ray, Fantastic Mr. Fox Blu-Ray and Matewan Blu-Ray. Haven’t been to Union Square in years, didn’t realize their Criterion section was much larger.
This morning I ordered my last Criterion for November sale, Blast of Silence. Have been eyeing if for longest time, excited, such an interesting back story on how the movie was originally produced, i.e. producer/director deciding to cast himself in main role after Peter Faulk fell through, filming guerilla style on crowded city streets, etc. Would love for you to do a review at some point, thanks Elliot, enjoyed this video.
I made one purchase this month at B&N - Funny Games. Next month after No Country for Old Men I think I’ll be done with my personal Criterion collection until they announce more stuff I’m interested in.
Highlights from my haul this month are Double Indemnity on 4K, which I’ve seen but can’t wait to rewatch, and Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams on 4K which I haven’t seen!
Got myself Seven Samurai and Shape of Water on 4K at much better prices than I would normally have to pay to import Criterion titles to Australia via thanks to the sale.
I haven't been able to control myself with this sale. I've purchased 50 titles so far. My wallet hates me. I can vouch for Demon Pond. Fantastic film. Real Life is also great. Albert Brooks wise though, Mother is still my favorite. That movie is hilarious.
I should have two more coming to my local B&N (Good Morning & Andrei Rublev) but I think I’m finally done this month. This time around I got: Monsters & Madmen DVD set Cat People I Walked with a Zombie/The Seventh Victim 4K GDT Pinocchio 4K Sound of Metal 4K
I went into my local Barnes&Noble store and they stopped selling Criterion’s :( they told me they’re a store that no longer carries them. I hope this isn’t a trend.
She passed over a lot of good titles for GUMMO---notably Frank Tashlin's THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT, GIRLFIGHT and GIRLFRIENDS, all far superior to the pretentious prank that is GUMMO.

@@CraigSteelyard I’m so glad you had a good first experience! Love both of those films myself. Excellent!
Safety Last is one I'd like to have. That's such a fun movie!
La Bamba is fabulous film !

I don't think I've ever seen an in-field video from you before. Nice!

I was very close to picking up a few criterions including The Last Emperor but decided it would be a waste of space on my shelf. Proud of myself.

To die for was blind purchase and I absolutely loved it
Looove the Union Square store-I go whenever I’m in New York!
@@nicholaskinney5112 it’s a beauty. So many floors of wonderful things.

Dreams is visually stunning! 💮
Anyone have flickering issues with some of the brighter scenes on the Seven Samurai BFI issue
You’re better off just picking up the Arrow release of Time Bandits on offer here in the UK
The Arrow 4K might be cheaper still even with 50% off the Criterion release...
I just blind bought La Haine! Amazing!
Mate your voice was breaking into a Christopher Lee tone 🥰
Got myself Seven Samurai and Shape of Water on 4K at much better prices than I would normally have to pay to import Criterion titles to Australia via thanks to the sale.
Repo Man and The Red Shoes sitting side by side
Would be a helluva challenge to find two better films sitting side by side in any store

To die for is on my wishlist too. Think it’ll have to wait for the next sale though. I’ve tried to keep the importing to reasonable numbers.
I can't understand why in the UK. They.
Can't put all of the criteria movies on sale
Do Barnes and noble ship internationally?
I should have two more coming to my local B&N (Good Morning & Andrei Rublev) but I think I’m finally done this month. This time around I got:
Monsters & Madmen DVD set
Cat People
I Walked with a Zombie/The Seventh Victim 4K
GDT Pinocchio 4K
Sound of Metal 4K
Once Upon a Time in China is awesome. Great action and humor. Jet Li is great!
If I upgrade all to 4K I will be soon in bankruptcy!!
I went into my local Barnes&Noble store and they stopped selling Criterion’s :( they told me they’re a store that no longer carries them. I hope this isn’t a trend.
Amazon have the same sale for a month.
i've spent way too much during this sale
@@zzorken7153 room for a little more? 😅
Same here!
I Am Cuba. Of all the ones you listed, this should be your first buy. The camerawork is amazing. ❤
@@nobordersfilm i can’t wait to see it! Thanks for watching
That's the Barnes and noble I go to.
Decent selection of arrow and Kino and in general 4Ks
Better selection than the store on 5th avenue.

And why does your friend look like you? 😄
Mother is also overrated. The film and the real thing again. lol
Real Life is overrated. The film and the real thing. Haha
