  • Angus Kille is truly an understated climber. He has been climbing at a high level in both sport and trad climbing but has remained relatively under the radar. With his recent ascent of the notorious Indian Face we pinned him down for a chat to find out the process behind climbing this terrifying route.

    Time that people acknowledged Face Mecca and Nick Dixon more often.

      Great interview. Guess the thumbs down is for the camera work that really short-changes the viewer.

    Any chance of a video about how to solo top rope as Angus mentioned? I've always wondered how the best way to do it is.

      Micro traction pulley devices work pretty well, made by petzel. Even a gri gri will work for rope soloing. Do some research and you can find many ways and devices to rope solo safely

      dave macLeod has a good tutorial on how he does, have tried this out myself on a couple of Projekts and got to say it is the best way to top rope solo that i've found to date,

    Great interview, but for the love of god why didn't you rotate the video...

    • @dailyclimbing
      @dailyclimbing  6 років тому +7

      ZeUbinator it was filmed at he crag in landscape on a phone, not by us. When we looked to rotate it, it changed the perspective too much, made it look like a walk. The decision was made to keep it like that to better portray the climb, and stay true to the ‘in the moment feel’ of the recording.

    Fascinating interview, but I question if the gear is so bad the difference between this kind of very sketchy trad and free soloing...

      JEdit23 we asked Angus about this. He said it was mainly a psychological thing. Also...you never know about the gear, it might just hold!

      Agreed, at least in free soloing there isn't a shadow of a doubt to your options off the ground. You must need a head of steel to block out any possibility of falling on gear. I can only imagine, which is why I'm happy watching incredible ascents like this!

      We'll, in my experience the people most likely to dabble in freesoloing are traditional climbers, and you'd unlikely see a sport climber try freesoloing.
