i am a cabinetmaker with 50yrs exp. i don't normally comment but i have got to complement you on your clever use and adaption of a childs toy. i am very impressed in your work, it is the best thing i have ever seen. good luck and best wishes. john
I was recently gifted one of these from an unbelievably kind family. The husband/father of the family had built it and it is beautiful. So much so that it is a work of art. I've been playing around with it thinking it was just a vertical router until I found this video.
Hi Matthias, I just bought your plans of the Pantorouter XL and downloaded them and they are clear, concise and detailed and I would like to thank you for going to the trouble of making the plans. US$21 is a small price to pay . Now all I have to do is make it. regards Mike
Destin... I know you *DO NOT* have a pantorouter or you would never have time to make so many educational and entertaining videos! I say that because I am addicted to -playing- working with it and I do not have time for anything else now. (I've lost 23lbs just from the pantorouter!! Lol jk)
Mathias, you are a true craftsman in the style of the old masters. Something the world really needs in today's age of "near enough is good enough". I'm no woodworker but I love watching your the videos on your beautifully made innovations.
Might be a bit much to start. The screw advance box joint jig is also really good bang for the buck (in terms of effort involved), plus I have a whole video series on making that one.
I'm learning that videos like this are what the internet is for! Having just taken up woodworking after an engineering career I sat down today to begin mapping out a device of my own. Quick search online to see how others approach this and hey presto you've already done it fantastically well, no chance I would have got there and I was just about to start pondering the modifications needed for a plunge router fit (fixed base routers are near impossible to get hold of in Europe) but see on your site that you've already done that! Excellent work Matthias, your plans are about to save me about a years worth of hobby time so thanks from your latest subscriber and plan purchaser - superb value.
This is really awesome, Dewalt should pay you millions for the plans. Your brilliance dwarfed some of the big time project managers who makes 6 figures that I've met in sillicon valley . A genius like you should be making millions if not billions.
That is pure genius, how can one man design and build so many amazing machines. Everyone who's seen any of Matthias' videos must be awe of his genius. Just look at the Likes/dislikes count. Everybody loves his work.
There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said, so I guess I will have to repeat previous comments. Matthias, you are a genius! Am I correct in saying that you are an engineer? Because if you're not, you are in the wrong field of work, my friend! I hope that I can one day have the workshop you have full of handmade engineered tools and machines like you do. Mega props to you, Sir! Your videos are always worth the wait!
Incredible. You are such a value to the woodworking community. You could take your machine and make millions. Instead you give it to the world. Remarkable.
Wandered away from steam locos and found one of my other love making things in timber. What a lovely use for my other router. A slightly bigger version could be adapted to do doors their hinges and locks etc. David in Reading uk.
@OldSchool People like you are what has made this country great. The computer now creates the opportunity for all of us to learn from one another. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
The ratio is probably somewhere in the range of 1.995 to 2.005. The ratio is just one of many things that can be inaccurate - it's more likely that there are subtle distortions that aren't a simple ratio. It's easier to make sure the machine and it's parts are accurate enough than it is to try to calibrate the inaccuracies.
im usually working on cnc turning/milling machines, and im working with metal, but this selfmade gadget to copy a shape and paste it on a solid block of wood without any commands on computers is great, big respect (((:
Hi SAHBfan, Yes you can, I'm in the UK too. I have a Bosch GMF1400 - a very good router, and the motor housing detaches from the base as it has two - a fixed and a plunge base. It would be ideal for this project
Matthias, What you have done is very, very impressive. I have watched a lot of video from many Woodsmiths and you stand out .... congratulations! I intend buying your plans regards Mike
I've got a hammer, a saw, a screwdriver and one of those IKEA-tools. That's about it. The most complicated thing I've ever built was a bird house. Yet I've been watching these videos for days now. Being bewildered and impressed sure is entertaining!
I'm new here and first thing I noticed were his machines. I knew they were his own work, but man, what a friggin talent that is. I sub'd the second I watched one of his videos.
That is pretty sick! I've never even jointed a two bits of wood (only with a Impact driver and screw) but I take my hat off to you for coming up with this. Outstanding bit of work sir :-)
Concuerdo con la mayoria de los comentarios...Eres un genio!!...gracias por compartir tus diseños...Felicitaciones y mucha suerte en tus futuros proyectos...
Matthias Wandel Have you ever considered using the pantorouter to make box joints? You can cut tenons on each of the sides, but staggered. Then follow the gluing process as regular.
Brilliant, elegant, and useful. You've outdone yourself and just about everyone else in the process! Thank you so much for sharing this with the world! Quick question... how close to exactly 2:1 is the ratio? With even the best human craftsmanship, I'd think you'd be bound to end up with something like a 1.95:1 ratio. Can you post measurements of the template and product for something simple, like a tenon?
dude I am blown away. I will definitely be stealing some of your ideas. Totally awesome. Did you study as a mechanical engineer or is this all knowledge you've got on your own? Either way, props dude.
Hi Matthias, this is a very interesting idea. I was wondering why you decided to design a mechanism based on a pantograph requiring you to create a double size template, instead of using something more like how key cutters work which create 1:1 reproductions?
i'll be honest, this is genius. i would gladly pay twice, even three times more for the plans for this device, rather than your more than fair price of 18 dollars. i will be subscribing
sometimes when you talk in detail it puts me back in school umm about 20 years ago and my brain hurts lol. all joking aside love your projects and designs and you articulate very well.
Just a thought, could you just rotate the router within it's harness to make the switch not bump the side of the router? Or is there a reason that wouldn't work? Just a thought. Super inspiring stuff!!
You could do a joint in the shape of a heart etc. I think i saw a video a while back, that made an oversize joint, and then made an inlay for the gap in the joint, that was in a different colour.
Thank you!! Make an equal or similar device to yours (pantorouter) it does a couple of weeks behind, I had to use metal elements and wood to be able to construct it, though to perfect still you dire that that works and very well ... thank you again for the idea ... probably one of these days raises it to youtube ... in order that you see it...
I would love to see a video on how to use this for dovetails as i am using dovetails on a wooden chess board at school and am finding them quite hard and time consuming and would love to see an alternate way of doing them. Thanks
Let me preface this by saying I am an enormous fan of Matthias' videos and I think this machine is extraordinary. However, everyone is commenting that it should be patented so he can make a lot of money. First of all, I'm sure Matthias' goal is to keep making wonderful devices and fantastic wood creations - not money. Secondly, this is not the first machine of it's kind. Go through the related videos to find many (inferior) versions of pantograph router mechanisms.
Wow. This is amazing. You are a genius, my friend!
This is one of the slickest woodworking tool I've ever seen. I hope it makes you lots of money. Good work brother.
He did not invent it. Kuldeep and Dwight invented it. Just look up the patent. It's there names on it and that's what matters
@@Moksoory1 why do they pay him royalties then
@@1873Winchester so he doesn't sue them for stealing his idea

See where on the end of the video it says "for more info"?
That's a good way of getting more info.
And he does sarcasm..., he can do anything!

not so much but a fellow engineer nerd. You sir are brilliant.

I'm always amazed by how you are able to design the various jigs and machines you show on your videos. A geatmind, keep up the great work!
You have invented a genuinely new wood working tool. This is quite an accomplishment!
Yes. See the webpage linked from the video.
Incredible.
You deserve all of the praise you are receiving.
First the marble crossbow, and now this? You sir are truly inspiring. Thank you very much.
Unreal, your videos are by far my favorite and I look forward to them every week. Thanks for taking the time!
I am consistently impressed by your ingenuity and quality of work. Thanks for the video.

Much respect, Mr. Wandel! You have a beautiful gift.
Matthias has a great eye for making woodwork jig.He is one of the best woodworkers i have seen making router jig,s and tablesaw jig,s. australia.
Very good job of explaining what it does, and how it does it. I may not ever make one, but I really enjoyed seeing how you did it. Thank you.
I'm new here and first thing I noticed were his machines. I knew they were his own work, but man, what a friggin talent that is. I sub'd the second I watched one of his videos.
It's so smooth, so well thought out...

Thanks a Ton for the Explanation of how the Pantarouter Works.. Tried many videos, and this is the only one that made sense..
Matthias, you are immensely clever and entertaining.
Lovely work, it's very effective and yet the design isn't overly complicated or too elaborate.
Some of it. Click the link in the description.
This machine really takes the cake! This would make a German engineer proud!
Got to the page about the plans and click on specificatoins
That's one of the nicest wooden machines I've seen. You must be an engineer?
This is a great machine and I use it lots. Also I like all your hints and tips really has got me doing more in my shed.
man, i just hope your'e a millionarie, if not sell your creations to the masses.
awesome , genius..

Because I wanted double size templates, and this way is much simpler.
saw a couple of your vids tonight, and very impressive work to strive towards.
Congratulations man! This is one of the coolest things I've seen on youtube!
Don't wanna sound too exuberant, but DUDE!! THIS IS SO COOL!!

wonderful work, I'm your fan... I'm from Brasil and I love all your work.
Patent and produce. Very awesome.

You're a genius Matthias!
Thanks!
thank YOU!
No, but I cover how to make those in other videos.
you file for patent for you designs. AWESOME stuff man!
This is the only 7000+ video i have ever seen without a vote on the dislike side. And for good reason. This is an amazing bit of cleverness.
Just a thought, could you just rotate the router within it's harness to make the switch not bump the side of the router? Or is there a reason that wouldn't work? Just a thought. Super inspiring stuff!!
Thanks for showing us how this works. I liked the size too.

Wonderful work possible sizes or planned until the benefit Thanks
You could do a joint in the shape of a heart etc. I think i saw a video a while back, that made an oversize joint, and then made an inlay for the gap in the joint, that was in a different colour.
u remind me of my dad, he is all about perfection.
i'll show him some of ur videos, i'am sure he'll love it, jus like i do.

The finish doesn't help much. It's all about keeping that in mind as you build the machines, and knowing what you can get away with.
so far the coolest thing you made
Awesome idea! Wish I was that creative to make a tool like this.
@Superhambone, i was thinking about a handpowered version. a chainsaw is way to loud to rip a log in the basement, or on the balcony!
Hi Matthias, I was wondering if you ever have thought about designing and making a wooden TV wall mount that can rotate and all.
Thank you!! Make an equal or similar device to yours (pantorouter) it does a couple of weeks behind, I had to use metal elements and wood to be able to construct it, though to perfect still you dire that that works and very well ... thank you again for the idea ... probably one of these days raises it to youtube ... in order that you see it...

You will have to make a wedge and mount your workpiece on that.
