@@confuseddad2865 if we wouldnt have MSFS you wouldnt even complain about it. You gotta see that xplane isnt going the exact same way as msfs goes. In my eyes its two different things. I prefer xplane over it
Interesting fact an O-1 Bird Dog (a modified Cessna 170) landed on the aircraft carrier USS Midway at the end of the Vietnam War. It was carrying a South Vietnamese Air Force Major Buang-Ly, and his family escaping from Vietnam.
I did. You are correct. Doesn't surprise me. I use Xplane 12 to drive my home simulator and I successfully landed the default Cessna 172 on the Ford Class Carrier included. Plenty of deck left. @@jeddis92
I've never played any X-Plane games and I only casually play MSFS 2020. But I've been watching Austin's videos for years. You can always hear his passion for any subject he's talking about, hence why I listen to him despite having no involvement in aviation myself. As a long time hardcore sim racer myself, I wish each of the major sim racing franchises had such a charismatic, heavily community interactive figurehead like Austin!
Give it a shot. Flying a plane is 100X more hardcore than racing. Xplane 12 has some of the faster military aircraft modelled. You can even buy an SR-71 Blackbird with in flight refueling also.
Haha for a moment I really thought you were flying to Bermuda. But something was off from the get go and eventually you found that yourself! Great video.
I love the Lancair, I've actually fueled your guys planes iirc, you made some trips up to an airport I worked at last summer. We also had a customer with several of them. Great planes.
Both at the airline and the Air Force we had to file an alternate for any single runway island airport. And in the case of Bermuda it is, as you say, back to the good ol' USA. Unless, that is, you can buy a surplus Navy aircraft carrier, and make that your alternate, anchored a few miles offshore. That way you wouldn't get the sass from the Air Boss. Also, now I understand where all of my XPlane dollars have been going!!
This was fun to watch! Thank you:) Love your enthusiasm along with educating:) So if we could only get 2-6 aircraft carriers to sit between here and Hawaii (2250 nm), so lots of people could fly there! (Maybe 2 next to each other so their could be a back ups airports!) There could be hotels/entertainment/etc like big cruise ships! That would be a fun trip!
Performance wise this wouldn't even be that hard but I'm pretty sure the most the carrier would do is offer to fish you out of the water after you ditch lol
The guy is a trip. He should have just flown to Hattaras and topped up and then flew for Bermuda. 562 NM, he would have had plenty to hold while the 330 gets cleared from the runway. But, then he wouldn't have needed to demonstrate that great Carrier landing.
Ironically, I /sailed/ to Bermuda and, due to WX, almost had to divert (well, delay arrival into St. George). The Ford wouldn't have helped then. Congrats for an amusingly instructive vid.
The only dual engine failures I have ever had have been behind Pratt and Whitney engines. (I had a lot of engine failures as a manufacturer’s test pilot years ago) Also since Bermuda is a single runway I have never flown an aircraft to this airport without having enough fuel to go to an alternate. Disregarding weather, the flight in front of you can block the runway at anytime (like the genius in this video).
Where and when did these dual engine failures happen? Plane type, location ,engine, out come? And as far as a plane that has over a 2,000+ plus 45 minute reserve range what airplane was that ? A lot of engine failures? How many exactly? BS
Hi Austin! How well does gliders work in the latest version? I'm looking for a replacement for Condor 2 but I'm worried the support for ridge, wave and thermals might not be properly supported.
Loved it! Lucky for you they have kerosene on the carrier. I'd be out of luck with my Bonanza (but I have a 1400nm range so I guess I could file Charleston as my alternate...).
I’m surprised you were cleared to take off with the sheer weight of all that cheese you’re carrying :ppp That look down camera, “I don’t need luck” had me laughing way harder than it should have.
You are a genius Austin! What a great and amazing video and even if you used X-Plane to pull it off, it was still a thrilling ride. Being a CFII&ME long time instructor you might want to get my five star book: "Teaching Confidence in the Clouds". In fact if you send me your info I will send you a signed copy. I can't say enough about how X-Plane has advanced my admiration of what you have done with developing X-Plane to what it is today.
Lived and worked in Bermuda. Unfortunate that you were denied landing permission. Was hoping to see some of my old stomping grounds. Oh well, back to Google Earth.
My mac mini won't run X plane 12. But After coming under the sway of Austin's Enthusiasm, I will get a PC from X force! Plus I live 6 minutes from Beta! (Alia now in X plane 12!)
This is why I bought XPlane 11 and 12. This guy has the passion to make it better and better. But he lacks the Dev team of Microsoft when it comes to scenery but flight modeling XPlane 11 or 12 is the clear winner! MSFS is a Scenery Simulator not a Flight Simulator!
You just have to love this guy for the amount of excitement and Passion he puts into his Job

for an actor, Austin makes a very good computer programmer 🙂
Can we get Austin his own show on Discovery?

To Austin: You're ridiculous. Keep up the good work
LoL You have made my day Mr. Austin, sir. Now I know why you put A LOT of carriers around the lands. Love you man.
Haha for a moment I really thought you were flying to Bermuda. But something was off from the get go and eventually you found that yourself! Great video.
This is great I am excited for more videos like this… informative and entertaining!
It's nice to finally see you fly Austin! But that dark cockpit with the giant frame pillars makes me feel claustrophobic just looking at it. haha.
Austen. I am such a fan you and X-Plane !! :)
Very funny Austin, enjoyed the video, really like XPlane and N44X is awesome!
Try it with the freeware EVO Mod. Fast, Faster. Fastest. Jet? We don't need no jet, LoL

You never cease to amaze! And such an amazing teacher to boot. Ty sir
That part where he said he needs to file use ford as his alternative got me cracking
As someone who's been around piston engine planes mostly, seeing you spin the propeller by hand made me hella nervous lmao
This was fun to watch! Thank you:) Love your enthusiasm along with educating:)

The rendering of the Austin Meyer character is pretty good in X-Plane 12. 🤓
When you turn the nerd dial to 11
No FAA Inspectors were harmed during this filming..... 😄
Brilliant as always!
Hey is that the new X-Plane sitcom? :D

Mr. Myer, you are a GENIUS!

Hilariously awesome and unique video…well done boys! 👍
Can you fix the wingflex and dark cockpit instead
Make another but idk in a f14 tomcat

Great Austin, waiting to see you operate other aircraft in your new series. Cheers.

I think we have to incorporate notam in the Xplane and phraseology for rádio communication.
Ok .... cheese everywhere but funny. Thanks lol
It also worked on my nerves when he used Oh instead of zero. When I realised he is joking I just laughed.
Excellent!! Nicely done!

Very well done and fun to watch! 😊 Is the name of the aircraft a pun or a reference to the good old rally car "Lancer Evolution"?
It's a model of aircraft.
Look up Lancair
N844X is a gorgeous, high-performing PERFECT airplane! I found my new dream airplane because of you!
I wonder if you can land a lancair evolution airplane on the deck of a aircraft carrier that is 1100 foot long?
Just Brilliant!! hahaha thanks for this one! :)
