I love that Queen turned out not to be an evil or bitter villain. She was literally just ignorant of the fact that Fountains were a bad idea. Because when you ignore the whole takeover the world bit, she turns out to actually be very chill and fun.
She's not like the normal AI antagonist trope where "people are so addicted to their phones anyways, it would be better if they could always be on them". She just actually has no clue what people do outside the internet so just assumes everyone will like it permanently.
As she said to Kris in the city, she was willing to be a villain if it meant saving her world and making happy the Lightners/people from the regular world. She did not know about the consequences of making too many fountains as Ralsei explained in the legend in chapter 1 and it's continuation in chapter 2.
I feel like she had good motives, but since she is a machine she doesn’t have full understanding of human emotions and what really makes people happy (also yeah the fountains too)
I feel like the true lore behind this battle immediately slipped everyone's mind. Basically, Queen and her kingdom gains power whenever people from the real world even touch their phones. Even the littlest things like merely turning on your device to check the time grants power to her kingdom. But recently, the Wi-Fi went down, meaning people were no longer able to search for stuff on the web, or do basically do anything involving Wi-Fi, meaning her kingdom was significantly weakened. Like every normal person would do when the internet's down, Queen went ballistic because of this. Thinking it to be the end of the world (even though Wi-Fi outages are a common thing that just go away in the span of a few days), she frantically searched everywhere for a solution (which is kind of ironic, now that I see it in words), until at one point, she came across a video of the Knight opening a fountain. Grasping at straws, she thought that, maybe, by opening up dark fountains, she could find a solution to her problem and solve everything. And that's what made her into the person she is, now.
notice how Queen is a major contrast to Toriel like how the King was a contrast to Asgore? Where Toriel is careful and strict, Queen literally throws glasses and cars, both with the tendency to explode, and doesn't give a frick if she's drunk on Battery Acid
There was also contrast between sans and Jevil. Sans is chill and lazy While Jevil is hyper and crazy And both contained the knowledge that their world was just a game.
The King and The Queen The King is a merciless monarch who will do anything to free his people from the realm of darkness they live in, and will not reason with a human who came from the world above them. The Queen is a quite sweet woman who even though she seems lonely and kinda attached she is trying her best to accommodate the human. Now replace King with Asgore and Queen with Toriel

And yet he puts on a facade to make sure we (Kris' soul) turn him into Neo. While he's insane, he still acts like himself. (mannequin of spamton wears mettaton dress) Mettaton gained everything. Fans, a hotel, friends, and became a celebrity. But he doesn't act himself anymore because of his ego. The only time he acts like himself is in the Genocide run. That's when we see he still puts his friends first, unlike Spamton, who doesn't care about his friends anymore. so they might not really be a perfect mirror to each other, toby shoves it in your face that Spamton is a mirror of Mettaton.
this song still haunts me. that battle with queen had me so mad for so long dude the amount of pure relief i had felt when i finally beat her felt like being blessed by the heavens above it was so great
And the battle scene too, with her looking all smug in her throne while berdly is controlled by a wire. Anybody who didn't play even undertale would think she is a big bad villain at first glance just watching the boss fight*. Oh boy how wrong they are
Undertale antagonists always are misguided or have a real reason for doing bad things. Queen follows this trend perfectly. She looks and acts like she is evil, but she wants to achieve happiness for everyone and believes that using a lightner to make fountains would help, after all they would make their own worlds. When she learns that the consequences could be fatal and backfire, she immediatly changes her side and stops being the villain.

Deltarune chapter 2 plot: The next morning, Kris' mother, Toriel, discovers Kris has eaten a whole pie, comically resolving the previous chapter's cliffhanger. After school, Kris and Susie return to the Dark World and reunite with Ralsei. He instructs Kris to return to the unused classroom and pick up the various items inside. Upon carrying them to the closet, the Dark World's Castle Town expands and becomes inhabited by previously encountered Darkners, including Lancer and an imprisoned King. Ralsei urges the two to leave and work on their group project with their classmates, Noelle and Berdly. Kris and Susie head to the library's computer lab, only to discover a new Dark World has been created inside it, and Noelle and Berdly have been sucked in. The Dark World's ruler, a robot named Queen, kidnaps Noelle, intending to use her to create new Dark Fountains. Berdly, out of admiration for Noelle and Queen, joins the latter. Ralsei travels to the new Dark World to help Kris and Susie in their journey to rescue Noelle and fight against Queen. Later on, Kris is temporarily separated from Susie and Ralsei, joining up with Noelle and helping her evade Queen. During this section, Kris encounters Spamton, an insane spambot who wants to obtain "freedom" by taking their soul. Through an optional sidequest, Kris can later help Spamton enter Queen's basement and upgrade himself into the superboss Spamton NEO. After Kris, Susie, and Ralsei are reunited, Kris and Susie convince Berdly to change sides, but he is captured by Queen. After Berdly is freed, Queen, desiring to fill the role of the "Roaring Knight" who created the previous Dark Fountains, reveals that any inhabitant of the Light World can open a Dark Fountain through the use of "Determination". Before she can force Noelle into assuming this role, the rest of the party arrives; she retaliates by attacking the party with a giant mech. Queen defeats them and threatens to kill them if Noelle does not follow her plans, but Noelle stands up to and refuses to obey Queen. Realizing the error of her ways, Queen encourages Noelle to choose the world she wants. Berdly attempts to create a Dark Fountain, but Ralsei tells him to stop, warning that opening too many Fountains will cause a cataclysmic event known as "The Roaring" that will drown the world in darkness, convincing him not to. Kris closes the Dark Fountain, and Queen and her followers relocate to Ralsei's Dark World. Kris and Susie awaken in the computer lab with Noelle and Berdly, who believe that their adventure was a dream. Susie walks Kris home and is invited in by Toriel, who suggests that she spend the night. In the bathroom, Kris tears out their soul again and climbs out of a window. After Kris returns and puts their soul back in their body, Toriel discovers that her car's tires have been slashed, so she calls the police. After Toriel and Susie have fallen asleep, a limping Kris rips out their soul again, turns on the TV, and uses their knife to open a Dark Fountain in the living room. The screen fades to black as Kris holds up their soul, and a smile appears on the static TV screen.
Toby nailed it once again! Everything about this good. I love the part at 1:05 to 1:32. Once the percussion and other background instruments hit that's where I get the Chaos King vibes at. So freaking good! Edit: Shoutouts to Lena Raine and Marcy Nabors for being involved with this composition. It's like a dream-team of composers all working on a game's OST, but here it's 1 track thus far.
I think this theme in particular wasn't made by Toby fox, it was made by Lena Raine and someone else I can't remember. Lena is the composer of Celeste, and she also made new music for the 1.16 Minecraft update.
What’s funny is this time around it’s a lot harder to hear her motif, I guess you could say. Like the first chase with Badaline and the slow part of Pigstep sound like Lena Raine, but I can’t hear much here. Maybe around the 2 minute mark..?

Also Chara regected their humanity and became a demon. So, I think Toby is some kind of JJBA fan.
That's the thing: she's not made of memes, but just acts like one. That way, she still had her own identity and personality traits without turning into a "how do you do, fellow kids?" character.
I love the fact that although Queen's instrumentation is all digital of course, it is also synth versions of very classical instruments like harpsichords and organs which really helps give a bit more of a medieval queen vibe

I really love the boss feeling of this song also applied to the queen’s random personality. Really shows she wants to have fun while also influencing the people around her. That’s what this song tells me,her influence.
Queen's motive for what she's doing throughout the entire chapter could either be seen as good or evil depending on how you look at it. Essentially, she figures that since people are constantly on their phones or their PCs or whatever, then why not just literally FUSE them with their devices so they're always happy. One could think of it as a sort of PSA for internet/social media addiction
0:30 This part here, it always makes me remember how Queen is just trying to help everyone with her plan, even if it's extreme, and if that makes her a bad guy because of it.
The fact you hear the Queen theme throughout the chapter, and the build up with the inevitable confrontation against her at the end of the chapter and you hear that same LEITMOTIF you’ve heard throughout meetings with her is RIVETING.

Undertale antagonists always are misguided or have a real reason for doing bad things. Queen follows this trend perfectly. She looks and acts like she is evil, but she wants to achieve happiness for everyone and believes that using a lightner to make fountains would help, after all they would make their own worlds. When she learns that the consequences could be fatal and backfire, she immediatly changes her side and stops being the villain.

Deltarune chapter 2 plot: The next morning, Kris' mother, Toriel, discovers Kris has eaten a whole pie, comically resolving the previous chapter's cliffhanger. After school, Kris and Susie return to the Dark World and reunite with Ralsei. He instructs Kris to return to the unused classroom and pick up the various items inside. Upon carrying them to the closet, the Dark World's Castle Town expands and becomes inhabited by previously encountered Darkners, including Lancer and an imprisoned King.
Ralsei urges the two to leave and work on their group project with their classmates, Noelle and Berdly. Kris and Susie head to the library's computer lab, only to discover a new Dark World has been created inside it, and Noelle and Berdly have been sucked in. The Dark World's ruler, a robot named Queen, kidnaps Noelle, intending to use her to create new Dark Fountains. Berdly, out of admiration for Noelle and Queen, joins the latter. Ralsei travels to the new Dark World to help Kris and Susie in their journey to rescue Noelle and fight against Queen.
Later on, Kris is temporarily separated from Susie and Ralsei, joining up with Noelle and helping her evade Queen. During this section, Kris encounters Spamton, an insane spambot who wants to obtain "freedom" by taking their soul. Through an optional sidequest, Kris can later help Spamton enter Queen's basement and upgrade himself into the superboss Spamton NEO.
After Kris, Susie, and Ralsei are reunited, Kris and Susie convince Berdly to change sides, but he is captured by Queen. After Berdly is freed, Queen, desiring to fill the role of the "Roaring Knight" who created the previous Dark Fountains, reveals that any inhabitant of the Light World can open a Dark Fountain through the use of "Determination". Before she can force Noelle into assuming this role, the rest of the party arrives; she retaliates by attacking the party with a giant mech. Queen defeats them and threatens to kill them if Noelle does not follow her plans, but Noelle stands up to and refuses to obey Queen. Realizing the error of her ways, Queen encourages Noelle to choose the world she wants. Berdly attempts to create a Dark Fountain, but Ralsei tells him to stop, warning that opening too many Fountains will cause a cataclysmic event known as "The Roaring" that will drown the world in darkness, convincing him not to. Kris closes the Dark Fountain, and Queen and her followers relocate to Ralsei's Dark World.
Kris and Susie awaken in the computer lab with Noelle and Berdly, who believe that their adventure was a dream. Susie walks Kris home and is invited in by Toriel, who suggests that she spend the night. In the bathroom, Kris tears out their soul again and climbs out of a window. After Kris returns and puts their soul back in their body, Toriel discovers that her car's tires have been slashed, so she calls the police. After Toriel and Susie have fallen asleep, a limping Kris rips out their soul again, turns on the TV, and uses their knife to open a Dark Fountain in the living room. The screen fades to black as Kris holds up their soul, and a smile appears on the static TV screen.

I came from a smooth-brained drama where people claimed that this song belongs to “Danno Cal Drawings” and that any other youtuber who uses it is “stealing Danno’s song”. The stupidity from that situation alone surprises me. The fact that chapter 2 of deltarune has existed since September 2021 and still is not that recognized by the gaming community also suprises me. Oh please, no, that would just make it significantly less special to see Lancer's family, since we just know we're gonna see a new family member each chapter, thus making Lancer's family a bit less sacred than it appears, and the fandom wouldn't shut up about it, making the fandom a new level of slight irritability and annoyance.
Although, we could use an Ace of Spades, since that's the only real card we haven't seen, since Lancer said he was a Jack. The ace doesn't necessarily have to be of Lancer's family line, though, and could just be an ace in general, since Jevil is a Joker, but not really belonging to any caste of cards.
