      @@HerraTohtori There is a metalcore band called Born of Osiris and Iron Maiden have made several references to Osiris in titles and lyrics... so you're right on the mark with "the feel" of it.
      "Osiris Rex" however, is an amalgamation of ancient Egyptian and Latin. Osiris is the name of a God, and Rex plainly means king. Which is kind of odd considering Osiris was (among a multitude of other things) the embodiment of the dead and resurrected king. So it becomes "King Dead-and-resurrected-king"

    I know most people pronounce Jezero, with a J like in jazz but its proper pronunciation is actually as if it were spelled Yezero, which every Slavic person recognizes as "lake". The details vary between the languages from that family (jezero / jezioro / oziero) but it still sounds very familiar if its not mispronounced.

    I'm trying to imagine how much energy it would take to flip the magnetic field of a supermassive black hole. That accretion disk would be absolutely humongous, and changes in its structure would take a long time - hours - days, even if the magnetic field at the core somehow flipped suddenly. It boggles the mind.

    • @DavidStahl
      @DavidStahl 2 роки тому +1

      I have the very same sense…like trying to flag down the Santa Fe Super Chief with a Zippo lighter. One has to be suspicious of the Big Bad Wolf of that neighborhood-> the black hole itself.

    • @grgmetube
      @grgmetube 2 роки тому +1

      A lot of the particles and plasma in the accretion disc are going near the speed of light so that means due to relativistic effects every event should look slower to us observers outside of it. The magnetic flip happens quite fast though. Could it be because somehow a lot more ions or particles of opposite charge enter the accretion disc or the charge of ions changes to opposite but maintaining the same direction of orbit.

    • @RedRocket4000
      @RedRocket4000 2 роки тому +1

      And how the charge even works when part of the field is inside the event horizon when you consider the flip.

    • @nedoran5758
      @nedoran5758 2 роки тому

      Is the magnetic field created exclusively in the accretion disc or is it an internal feature of the black hole, ie beyond the Schwartzchild radius? Are we perhaps observing internal dynamics of the black hole?

    Once I was in Johns Canyon in SE Utah and the canyon ran North to South. The full moon was rising and watching the moon light descend down the Western cliff face was just so cool. I could not go to bed until the canyon floor was lit up. I was so bright once I was in the moon light. Talk about seeing moon shadows.

      Survey-Question (just go with it, please): Wouldnt oyu prefer it if we had Leaders who know the Internet but didnt embarass-themselves inside-it - or is that just me? I mean, we live in the Internet-Age and so much Data is available+understood.
      It's not like Rain was understood by People 10000 Years ago:
      For Example (and just an example!) Prisons.
      I mean, we just know America's Prison-System is extremly primitiv. That aint a theory or a wild guess, cause other Nations just do it blatantly better. They know better and the USA could just copy them, but do Politicans even know that?? Do they ever watch 'Second Thought' lay out all the facts and Data about this or other stuff?

    I commute to work around 5AM. The early morning planetary display makes the drive more interesting.

    Dr. Becky, you mentioned the moon illusion. Could you (have you?) explain(ed) how it works? I've heard too many theories to know which one is right. Love your work and enthusiasm!
