I really would like to see N&W 1218 make a return to operation in the future, however I understand that this action is highly unlikely to happen. This locomotive only operated in excursion service for 4 years, 1987-1991, and 1218 was the largest locomotive associated with the NS steam program ; 1218 is now at rest at the Roanoke Transportation Museum but I would enjoy seeing it make a return to excursion service operation again after receiving a rebuild/ overhaul.

Bring back the N&W 1218! Most powerful whistle I've ever heard.

trust me the 1218 is coming back soon everything nowadays is getting restored also the 1218 is in running condition the only issue is it needs parts and it has to go through the process most engines have top go through when being restored taken apart and put back together again.

the 1218 is pretty good it's sad that it's not running again like if you think the 1218 should be running again

It would be great if she can run again someday but probably because of so many parts missing and what happened in 1994 and the switching accident that derailed 9 passenger cars with 2 of them non repairable it may look like this is 1218's permanent retirement but you might never know what the future with hold only time could tell and maybe just maybe someone might be able to restore her I mean anything can be fixed if you have the money for it so maybe one day it'll happen fingers crossed 🤞😭

@@atsfevan0242 hey we have great technology and great wielders they can make parts and they said that Norfolk and western j class 611 would never run again and its running now so....why not 1218 But a couple things 1218 is owned by the Virginian transportation museum and we need petitions to all of Virginia who ever owns the museum the can make a campaign and ask for donations that's how they got 611 restored.

Thanks for sharing the videos. ANYTHING from the old N & W fleet of steam is alright with me. Also love steam from the Southern Railway too. Love seeing the old 630 and 4501 at the Tn. Valley RR museum. Just got back from Strasburg,Pa. and got to ride behind old steamer #90!

1218 sounds like the T-Rex from Jurassic Park when his driver lays on the whistle.

If you will notice I call my little insignificant channel TNSTEAMMEMORIES . I call it that because it is vids my dad made when I was a kid and we followed any steam locomotive that was operating in the area of Tennessee where we lived. I love these because I have a sentimental attachment to them. These where the times when each locomotive did not a marketing campaign. It is sweet that you have a favorite locomotive. My three year old son does too and it is Thomas.

This is honestly the most intimidation stream locomotive ever. I think the whistle has a lot to do with it, but also because it's rather large and just looks scary. It's a great locomotive though
    Edit: *intimidating
