If you keep the cultures just a little less damp that helps avoid attracting mites. Its also more ideal for the springtails, they appear a little wet. Waterfall !
Ever hear of putting egg shells in your isopod cultures? I read it was a good source of calcium for them. I put crunched up shells in with all of my iso cultures and they seem to do well.
Put a pushpin in the wall. Get an old fashioned clipboard that you can hang. That way you can make quick notes or ideas and never have to search for your records your video reminded me of a terrarium I made many years ago. Putting it together was almost like meditating. It was so relaxing to just sit and look at it awhile when things got hectic. I really appreciate your information. I just have to find the time to do it.
Awesome man. Respect what you do, very detailed and clear. I suggest posting more on viv builds and building As I see more and more people asking around for good Vic tutorials
I think you should keep all of them and just keep adding! Haha, as for the waterfall, only do one if you want, I don't really care either way! I'm sure it will turn out good.... Still waiting for Strikers naturalistic setup... (I like desert setups more than tropical, which is kinda odd I guess)
Great video I wish the springtails and isopods were more common to buy here in aus. Love the updates and yeah waterfalls are cool but it's not essential for me haha do what excites you the most!
Does anybody know of some suppliers in Australia? Or maybe some similar/related species that I could use for my paludarium project, would really love some help as it's the last part of the puzzle I require to finish the build
If you have a backyard, just look under leaf litter or rotting wood. If not, just go out to a park or bushland and look on the ground under a tree with lots of leaf litter and just dig about 10cm into the topsoil, you will find loads.
so in the winter, it get to 62F, so for the crested gecko would it be good to have a Zoo Med Moonlite Reptile Bulb - 25 w, or a 40 watt one. AND also, would i keep it on all winter if it gets to 64F in the day?
I've had fungus gnats for a while in my viv and they just don't go away. they aren't hurting anything and my Springtails are doing good. should I do predatory mites or just leave it be?
do they need food after introduced into vivarium. I feel like many died seconds after putting them into my vivarium. It was moist and right by a pothos.
I have a 6x2x2 ft wooden viv for my CWD. I am using some sort of wet bark as substrate with a 1x1ft water bowl (4 inch deep). I'm am struggling to keep humidity levels up to 80%. I giv the viv a full spray getting ever inch damp (not wet) and the levels rise to about 80% then 1 hour later I cheak and it's back to 50-60%. any ideas how to maintain the humidity?
Mike Tytula yeah I'm looking for a power socket and probe. I have a humidifier already but need a cheep probe and socket to turn on and off at appropriate times.
Hi mike, ill tell you the story of my vivarium with a waterfall. The story didnt end well ;( 2 frogs died. after 1 year the pump gets a electric issue and shocked the frogs. the noise and vibrations were probably not so good for frogs . whenever the waterfall was concerned the morning ( so that the frogs quiet night have ) they jumped herrum wild and looked frantically for the first 5 min. after a few weeks it took only seconds but although quite used to it , they have not. So I have almost completely switched off through a controller the waterfall to the stress reducing and it worked well until electrocution. should you elect to use a waterfall use no pump in the terrarium. should they fail or break times you come no longer pump the order to change or repair. sry for my bad english im from germany and didnt know many words so i use the translater :P
Tèo lê because they decompose dead matter on the ground. They allow for the decomposition to be efficient and nutrients to re enter the soil. They provide an important part of the ecosystem. If you lift up leaf litter u might see them if you have them in your area
ok thx for the reply but i still got a question. i live in hong kong and i just cant find any shop that sells springtails or isopod so will the soil still break up their waste as long i have live plants in it.
Please don't do a waterfall because I was looking into getting dart frogs and I definitely do not think I would be able to make a waterfall even though I know your video will be extremely helpful
If you keep the cultures just a little less damp that helps avoid attracting mites. Its also more ideal for the springtails, they appear a little wet. Waterfall !
thanks man! I appreciate it :)
Mike Tytula can you add springtails or isopods to a leopard gecko
ramblll. yes. tortoises. plants. frogs. cages. lighting n temp. Good Stuff
Thanks KC H.
If you're going to do a waterfall, go all out and make it into a paludarium! That way, you can have some beautiful fish in there as well!
Thank you Mike! Great to see that you listen to your subscribers!
You were one of the people the requested it wasn't it you?
yes
I think the word you used was DEMAND. :)
FadedEclipse0 hahaha
Do a waterfall and keep the reticulatas, they're so cool. Great videos! Been watching for a couple years and they never get old!
Ever hear of putting egg shells in your isopod cultures? I read it was a good source of calcium for them. I put crunched up shells in with all of my iso cultures and they seem to do well.
I would bake the eggs shells but it makes sense!

Good luck! It is a lot of fun, the more creative you are the more fun it is!
What if one of those Little fuckers jumps on your bed and start a Colony in your pillow :o
Let's just calm down
+andone01red i am calm :D
what will happen?
Actually, they'll disappear over time, due to the lack of moisture. Unless you piss on your pillow, you're good.
Awesome man. Respect what you do, very detailed and clear. I suggest posting more on viv builds and building
As I see more and more people asking around for good Vic tutorials
Thanks, and honestly I will be once this new one is done I will have a couple of videos coming out to go along for it!
A waterfall would make it look absolutely stunning, but, either way I'm sure it'll look great! 😊
I love your vids your doing amazing also I know you wanted them but is it ever possible for you to get any tree monitors?
Was Sheldon hiding form his adoring fans? Missed the wee guy!!
A waterfall build would be sweet!!
Thanks for all you do Mike!!!
Damn this video was fantastic. Your room setup is AMAZING! I would love to have a similar setup one day
Thanks man
On isopods- "they're hilarious"
True
fam? you say as you talk to isopods
I think you should keep all of them and just keep adding! Haha, as for the waterfall, only do one if you want, I don't really care either way! I'm sure it will turn out good.... Still waiting for Strikers naturalistic setup... (I like desert setups more than tropical, which is kinda odd I guess)
hahah sometime Striker will get done! Don't worry ahha
Great video man! Very smart of you to get those cultures going
Great video I wish the springtails and isopods were more common to buy here in aus. Love the updates and yeah waterfalls are cool but it's not essential for me haha do what excites you the most!
Ya surely their are some native species but who knows, and thanks man!
In Australia they are quite easy to find. Even in Perth, which is on a sand plain it is easy to find them under leaf litter.
13:00 I see you fixed the trippy light.
yes i did! I mean't to mention that! Dammit haha you noticed that is worth it :)
Waterfall please! :-) and I'd keep the Santa's. You've been looking forward to their call ever since you got them.
Yes please do a water fall I'm really wanting to make my own build with a waterfall and you are the only one I understand on custom makings on UA-cam
Alright sounds like I will be making a waterfall haha
Help my created gecko keeps eating the clean-up crew.
JKrabby it cleans up the clean up crew
It won't eat all of them right?
First video I've watched of yours I just subscribed Mad love and respect✌🏻️😎
THanks man!
Just chuck in long grain rice for the spring tails, the rice goes mouldy and they eat the mould.
I like to give them a more varied diet than that, but that does work.
@@MikeTytula I have heaps of colonies and they do great on the rice.
do the water fall with a reasonable sized pond wish thing in the bottom.sweet vid
A waterfall sounds awesome!
Yeah a waterfall would be nice for how to build a custom one watch josh's frogs video its great! Also, Any idea on when you will get the biopod?
Hopefully next month -_-
I would love to see a waterfall in that tank,
that would be cool
Perfect sounds good!
Nice video and WATERFALL
Hey, I know this video isn't really related, but do you suggest dusting calcium with d3 every day if your chameleon is getting NO natural sun?
Nice. How often do you replenish isopods and springtails in a vivarium?
Depends on what you are keeping in the vivarium
Hi, Do you keep springtails in your tortoise enclosure? Thank You for your time!
If you had a deep enough substrate layer you could
You should Do a waterfall. But what species are you putting in the new viv build
Probably the santa isabellas
+Mike Tytula was gonna get a group of 5 of them at a expo yesterday but got 3 R. Imitator 'verdero'
DelmarvaReptiles Nice definitely a good choice man!
keep the one in the mid outta the 3... and the water fall should go were the shrimp tank is...
haha maybe!
make a waterfall in the new tank it would be awesome and please make video of the making process
New to all of this. How often do you need to feed them and how much? Thanks
Why they are not holes in the box? I mean when you adding them to vivarium .. vivarium has holes .. :D
Nice video, was that a non-trippy blue tongue tank I saw?
Damn rights! I fixed it! But forgot to talk about it haha
waterfalls ftw my mannnn!!!!
hahaha thanks man!
id like to give the fennec fox a scorpion once or twice per year. is there anything from the fennec fox region scorpion that breeds decently well?
Once you add the springtails and isopods to the terrarium will they be self sustained or will more need to be added periodically ?
They should be added periodically.
Yes to waterfall it would look pretty nice
Do you have to worry about the springtails and isopods getting out of the tank and into your living quarters
No I have never had any worries about it.
my back porch has millions and millions and they get in my house. i wanna know how to get rid of them?
if it was my call on the darts to keep id keep the retics and the isabella and sell the chatzu they just aren't as exciting as the others
ya I think the chazutas will be going for sure.
Do you need to rinse the plants soil off and add new soil?
I would strongly recommend doing that!
could you potentially ship one of your vivariums to Nevada or is that too far away? I really want a dart frog viv but am too damn lazy to set one up.
I wouldn't be able to ship them, even if I did it would probably be a few hundred dollars just for shipping lol
great video. Very informative.
Thanks for watching!

No moon light, you want a ceramic heat emitter
Do i need it on all the time in the winter?
AND what watt?
You should pick up a thermometer and experiment with the wattage, and not necessarily all the time just when it's cool
thank you
Where do you buy some isopods/springtails if you're planning on starting a culture?
Depends on where you live
Mike Tytula thanks!
I've had fungus gnats for a while in my viv and they just don't go away. they aren't hurting anything and my Springtails are doing good. should I do predatory mites or just leave it be?
Leave them, the springtails will outcompete them with time.
Ya you can either leave them or use the mites, up to you.
Hi mate, can springtails and isopods escape the viv and infest a flat? Would much appreciate the answer.
They can escape but they likely won't infest.
Yes Mike make a waterfall :)
yes pls make a water fall pls so i have a idea how to make one for myself thanks
where do you get your starter culture? do you have experience buying them online?
No I bought mine locally
yes yes Yes YES waterfall!!
p.s just sell the imitators
do the clean up crews eat tarantula's dirt too?
They might do okay!
Do you have any issue with springtails escaping?
Nope
I have a pauldarium, it’s majority water. Can I use these to help clean mold ?
If there is a land section you would be okay to add some
will coco husk and peat work under the long moss and leaf litterfor dart frogs
No it won't.
Oh yea please do a water fall that will be awesome
Perfect
i want to get a blue tongue skink soon so i want to know what online reptile breeders are the best for price and qaulity
I wish my mom would let me get this many animals. I would do anything for more turtles and tortoises.
I didn't change the height of the heat light haha
Oh okay sorry I wasn't paying very good attention
do they need food after introduced into vivarium. I feel like many died seconds after putting them into my vivarium. It was moist and right by a pothos.
Maybe there was pesticides on the pothos?
where do you get your egg crate material from?
I just buy it from home depot or lowes!
@@MikeTytula i might have to try lowes then, unless my home depot didnt understand what i was asking about, they dont have any D:
They probably didn't understand, I would bring up a picture on your phone and show the guy at the store.
A waterfall would be awesome!!
It will come for sure!
Do you have a clean up crew for a sandy tank? I have a uro and hate cleaning the tank
A properly cared for uro, won’t really have any clean up crew that would survive.
@@MikeTytula oh ok 👍

Automatic mister! That's really the only way.
stephen collins give it a spray twice a day
Mike Tytula yeah I'm looking for a power socket and probe. I have a humidifier already but need a cheep probe and socket to turn on and off at appropriate times.
Alexander Dempsey I am currently spraying every 2-3 hours to maintain around 70-80%. but due to work that won't always be do-able
stephen collins is it for a crested gecko i'm guessing? it'll be fine if you just spray it before and after work :)

sry for my bad english im from germany and didnt know many words so i use the translater :P
so cool that even looks. the frogs may find this not so cool. But make your own experience maybe i got unlucky how know
+Sebastian Gerkensmeier (DerSebiss) ich hätte schon gedacht ich bin der einzige aus Deutschland der Mike schaut xD
Thanks for the story man, sorry to hear that. I think that might be a rare occasion, I will hopefully be okay.
wenn man sich für terrarien interessiert landet man früher oder später hier aber cool nicht der einzigste zu sein ;P
Sebastian Gerkensmeier ja stimmt :D
Great video, thanks
No problem!
Are you ever going to get a bearded dragon?
How much is your power bill with all those lights?
Moderately high
I'd like to meet you sometime, I'm not too far away l-17&Bell. I love the hobby. KC
What city is that?
awesome video
thats isopod is it dangerous for tarantula ?
ade ronny no, more like the tarantulas dangerous to them haha
Waterfall waterfall waterfall! :D
I got more good results using nothing but magnolia leaves and southern palm bark for both isopods and springtails..
hmmm I don't think I can get that bark in canada though haha
Mike Tytula I never knew this bark is not available over there lol
Jerum Distura im not sure I haven't looked all that hard for it.
how do u get them
I bought mines from the bio dude website www.thebiodude.com/ if you live in the US..
you ought to keep records when you start projects. just a suggestion.
ya I really should honestly
yeah waterfall would be kinda cool.
Sweet!
why do you put the iospod and the springtail in this
Tèo lê because they decompose dead matter on the ground. They allow for the decomposition to be efficient and nutrients to re enter the soil. They provide an important part of the ecosystem. If you lift up leaf litter u might see them if you have them in your area
They help breaking down organic materials and waste.
a waterfall would be cool :)
a waterfall would be awesome
Where did you buy the cleanup crew
Jungle jewel was the source of the original founders
do they eat the excreta of the reptiles? or ither things
I think they eat reptile waste, decaying wood that kind of stuff
Where did you get your bugs?
Depends where you live!
is that stacks of money behind the tank?
Not sure what tank you are talking about lol. But I don't think so!
the open top one
Also, PLEASE DO THE WATERFALL!
Hey mike you should do a live stream
@Miketytula
haha maybe!
How often do you hold you animals?
Depends on the animal haha
You sound like badger from breaking bad
Not sure my voice is that wraspy but thanks?
can i put springtails for my crested gecko tank to break up their wastes
You can yes
ok thx for the reply but i still got a question. i live in hong kong and i just cant find any shop that sells springtails or isopod so will the soil still break up their waste as long i have live plants in it.
colgent ip You will likely need to replace it every now and then.
Be great to see a waterfall
thanks!
Q: What is 'Bug Burger'?
It's Repashy prepared product
how fast do Jackson chameleons grow
Based on mine not all that fast haha
wow dude how much for vivvarium and dart frog set up
Just message me lol
yes do a waterfall
Do you sale springtails in Michigan?
No but surely there are a ton of people that do
CHEMELON videos plz
Please don't do a waterfall because I was looking into getting dart frogs and I definitely do not think I would be able to make a waterfall even though I know your video will be extremely helpful
