People make fun of Jiren for having a simple backstory but it's more complicated when you look at at. We are so used to the dragon balls being able to fix a lot of damage but Jiren never had the luxury of asking a wish granting dragon to resurrect people or reverse damage to a planet.
His story basically mirrors Goku's but he had no Senzu, Dragon Balls and Jiren wasn't from special race. He tried to get stronger together with his allies but it didn't work for him. Goku could become the same as Jiren if Frieza was victorious back on Namek
The anime and the manga are pretty different regarding power levels and events happening. Which makes sense since the manga came after the anime and not before it and changed many things. In the manga Goku still isnt as strong as beerus but in the anime the intention was for Goku to surpass all gods with mastered Ultra Instinct.

Android 17 coming out of nowhere for the Tournament of Power, being a trash talking fighter with amazing durability, a support game unheard of EVER in any in DragonBall series, and still being likable is either the greatest asspull, or best writing ever. Knowing what I know of the last couple of episodes regarding someone else's character writing, I'm going with good writing by Toriyama. Goku pulling Android 17 for the Tournament of Power was something out of left field for all of us when it happened, but somehow made perfect sense and the filler episode with the poachers on his island was forgiven immediately when 17 cracked Aniraza's power crystal a few episodes ago. Everything with 17 since then has been the cherry on the top.
A17 has died before. He was inside of Cell when he self destructed on King Kai’s world and died then, but was revived with the wish they made to bring back all of Cell’s victims which included 17.
When I first saw that face of jorens when Goku punched him so hard he coughed up his own saliva I couldn't stop laughing/ getting hyped up ( next episode we finally see him MASTER it).

All Gods Of Destruction have different power levels, Sidra being amongst the weakest. In the manga Beerus and Quitela(the yellow mouse) are the two strongest. None of them were confirmed as stronger than the other. In the anime, Whis confirmed during and before the T.O.P that Jiren was stronger than his own destroyer who was stronger than Beerus. Therefore, yes Jiren in the anime is stronger than Beerus.

According to the manga, Beerus is EASILY the strongest destroyer. I don't think Jiren could beat him, but he could definitely force out a LOT of power from Beerus.

Beerus & Quintella are the strongest Gods Of Destruction (cat & mouse). In the manga, all the gods fought & only them 2 were left. All Gods Of Destruction have different power levels, Sidra being amongst the weakest. Beerus is the strongest (hinted at) No Jiren could not beat Beerus or Quintella etc. I don’t know about the other Gods of Destruction as they have different power levels & we can only assume. Belmod is strong but he’s no Beerus
