- FINALLY this is done. It was actually meant to be finished three weeks ago, but schoool got in the way and SAI really didn't like me.
This is my second and probably last Warriors PMV for now, I'm kinda getting sick of drawing cats (which doesn't mean that I'll stop posting Warriors stuff, I'll just focus more on non-cat things). But I'm planning on opening commissions in the future, let me know if you're interested!
Anyways, I always wanted to make a PMV about Blackstar, I couldn't really find one and he's such an overlooked character in general. Sadly we don't know a lot about him so a lot of stuff in this video are my own interpretations of his story!
I believe that Blackstar never really was evil, he just did what he believed to be right: to follow the leader StarClan chose for ShadowClan. But after Tigerstar's death he realised that it was a horrible idea to just blindly follow someone, and he also started to question why StarClan would choose two leaders who were close to ruining his clan. He promised that he would do everything better and desperately tried to build up ShadowClans reputation again (which is why he was so distant), and just when he thought he made it his home got destroyed. Obviously he was enraged about this, but he also didn't like the plan of changing territories at all, and even when they reached the lake he never stopped questioning if it was the right choice. Then Sol came, and while Blackstar distrusted him at first the Eclipse convinced him that this cat knew more than StarClan itself, and he lost his faith. In his stubborness he didn't want to believe that he made a bad decision, but the sign of StarClan let him realise what he did and he reclaimed his place of a leader, but never fully recovered from his mistake.
Another headcanon I like is that Stonefur gave Blackstar the life of forgiveness, but sadly it didn't fit into the video.
Characters are form the book series ''Warriors'' by Erin Hunter.
The song is Broken Crown by Mumford and Sons.

If there are some things I get asked a lot I'll add them to this comment so it's kind of an Q&A! Some general things up front though:
Q: What did you use to make this?
A: Paint Tool Sai and Sony Vegas.
Q: How long did it take to finish?
A: Around 2 months, not counting the breaks inbetween (which you can see rip). I didn't want to spend as much time as on the last one so I tried to use some short cuts, unfortunately it got kinda messy, lol.
Q: Why does Character X look like that?/You know that they're supposed to look differently?
A: I'm aware that some of the designs stray a little from the book description. For me, a big part of enjoyment when drawing Warrior Cats comes from imagining my own design for them. Some I also made a bit more complex to fit with the other designs (f.e Hollyleaf). Some I changed just for aestethic reasons (I don't really like it when a design has colors that are only on one part for example, like Scourge's paw/collar) I tried to keep them still recognisable, if you don't know who's who though just ask!
Could you tell me who gave his lifes and why?

Blackstar will always be one of my favorite characters. He's always been an interesting character in my eyes. A step away from the "goody" Firestar and the "baddy" Tigerstar. He just falls somewhere in the middle. He goes from being just a henchman to one of Shadowclan's better leaders.
I really do want a super edition on him.

It's so weird! He's usually drawn the same size as Tigerstar, but Tigerstar is actually massive for a cat. He should be small compared to other cats and dwarfish compared to Tigerstar.

We've always seen what he's done through the perspective of other cats, but we don't know what he was thinking through the times ! It would be Interesting to read.
We'd get to know what he thought when Brokenstar became leader, or when Tigerstar died.
How he felt exactly about chasing WindClan off.

I like the idea that Rosetail and Stonefur haunt him (but I 2 like the idea of Stonefur giving him a life out of forgiveness) as they are the cats he killed Rosetail kinda got in the way and Tigerstar ordered him to kill Stonefur and or the idea the he constantly trying to show that he is not going to turn out like Tigerstar or Brokenstar who he blindly followed
That would make for an interesting side to his character

Blackstar to me was never a bad leader.
He was just a cat trying to fix a bad thing.
Tigerstar and Brokenstar, and a little bit of Nightstar, had completely MESSED UP Shadowclan, and Blackstar, although misguided in several places in life, was the one who dealt with the mistakes.
A headcanon of mine is that he never truly believed in Starclan after witnessing how easily Tigerstar and Brokenstar had messed things up.

Brokenstar was the only one messing up ShadowClan. Tigerstar made them strong again.

True, yet he ended up nearly destroying the forest with Bloodclan. The other clans BLAMED Shadowclan for taking him in as their leader, and while he was a actually pretty good one for them, he ruined their image. He made them look like a clan of liars and murderers. He is a dark stain on their history, and it did take Blackstar a while to get away from that image. And now with the new Tigerstar, I have a feeling that it is going to make a comeback.
“They had a Tigerstar as leader once, what’s going to happen now?” And all of that. The clan cats are gossipy little brats. You KNOW they’re gonna make up stories. And once again Shadowclan will be the clan with the leader trying to prove himself. So that means a battle. Then the stories start about Shadowclan attacking unprovoked. It’s an endless cycle of “ who makes up what and listens to who.”
Blackstar wasn't evil in anyway, he was just a cat who followed the orders of his leader. And then when he becomes leader he just does what he thinks is right, not evil in any way. Well at least in my eyes.

It seems that Black.Star has always just been hated for what he did.
But he only fought and killed because of Tiger.Star's Influence so
No one can truly blame him, because if I am completely honest,
Wouldn't all of us trust Tiger.Star because he was always the most
Popular due to his skills throughout the entirety of the clans and
Forest altogether also, he was young and naive and he wanted
To be a strong leader one day, mabey not as evil as Tiger.Star
But he probably looked up to Tiger.Star as a wiser and stronger

A smaller claw located on the inner side of a cat (or most other mammals' lower front leg?); which is used to provide extra grip incase of the said animal slips off a cliff, and might save them from falling to their deaths.
These 2 claws can not retract- but in most cases artists tend to draw them unsheathing and retracting smh

Blackstar is flawed, just as all the characters in a well written novel should be. As the leader, and before that member, of Clan portrayed as evil it's hard for him to show what he is made of. I love this. You gave a cat without a pov a chance to shine.

Blackstar has always been my favorite character in Warriors. Not because of his actions, he’s always just felt like the embodiment of ShadowClan itself. He’s just been one of those characters whose rare appearances have almost always been pretty good. He shows believable weaknesses a natural leader would have. In trusting Sol, Blackstar was just looking for the best way to keep his Clan healthy and strong. Unfortunately, that meant blindly following a manipulative villain and giving up on StarClan. Nevertheless, I loved your take on Blackstar and the pmv. I’m in love with your lineart!

Everyone is always talking about ThunderClan and Firestar.
Even when other clans are metioned, it's NEVER ShadowClan. So, the fact someone is acknowledging BlackStar and what he's been through, is really awesome!
Oh, the nostalgia is killing me. I miss the old territories so desperately, especially when I think of Dawn of the Clans and they went through to get there and GRAY WING. And all the old leaders, the good old days. I know it's probably irrational, but I feel like my heart is being torn in two.
Yeah. I just want them back so bad, they are so nostalgic (and easier to understand when drawing comics) . I'm sure the majority of the read ers would appreciate it, and as i have noticed, people usually replant forests after destroying them. And after so many books, im sure the trees would have regrown, prey would be back. There is no stopping the clans to go back :,(
Just imagine how interesting things would have been if Blackstar had been around in VOS and if he had been Darktail's dad. That would have been so hardcore to see him stand up for his clan. He'd kick Darktail's ass, and I also think that having Blackstar die like that instead of Onestar, a massive sacrifice, going out trying to save his clan would have proved his worth and his loyalty

Blackstar's one of my favourite leaders and while I think he's not precisely the most intelligent man in the room, he's loyal to a fault. He had to scrape up what remained of ShadowClan and bring it back to its former glory. Maybe it's just me but I really hated the way they tackled his death. He drowned and that's it. What a lame way to take down one of the oldest, most traditional, coolest leaders of a Clan. I know I probably shouldn't but I'd love a super addition or at least a novella based on Blackstar.

One of the most underrated characters! I'm so happy to see someone making something with Blackstar- so many people can't forgive him for what he did but that doesn't make him a less interesting character who did what he could to redeem himself.

When I first read of him when he was just a stray attacking Thunderclan, I thought he was gonna be one of the character with only a single scene in the book. But the further I read the more interesting he got. Also he made wuiet a development from being a bad character to a really good, interesting leader.
I love Blackstar. He made mistakes but he was an amazing leader, trying to fix the Hell Brokenstar and Tigerstar made ShadowClan out to be. He just wanted the best for his Clan.

Blackstar is such an awesome character. I feel like he redeemed himself along his journey because let's admit.. He did go through a lot with Shadow Clan's darkest day's and brought it back to what the Clan should've been.

Great PMV! I think Blackstar is such a underrated character. So much things happened in his life and that makes him a very interesting character. He became Brokenstar's deputy, he killed Stonefur, he became leader of Shadowclan, he was manipulated by Sol ect. And he is also a great leader because he made Shadowclan strong again after everything with Tigerstar and he is what a Shadowclan leader should be.

I really would like a super edition on Blackstar maybe it could be called Blackstar's Judgement or something like that since he has a lot of conflicts that he goes through with himself and the outside world. So like we could get his thought process on so many things like why he was a bad guy in a first place, or when they're at the lake we could see what his thoughts are on his younger self's actions. We could also see what happened in his mind with the Sol problem. Idk just thought it might be cool really. :p

I love Blackstar sooo much he's one of my favourite characters. I honestly think he's super underrated. And keep in mind, some of the evil things he did were orders by his leaders. He was deputy to both Brokenstar AND Tigerstar. This vid is really great!

I love this PMV! Blackstar is so underrated, he went through a lot and his death is just glossed over. Everyone's always talking about how underrated Stonefur is, but Blackstar is ignored throughout most of his life.

I love this! This is so beautiful. I feel like Blackstar was misunderstood because he felt like he needed to listen to Tigerstar or something horrible would happen to him. I know that he didn’t want to kill any cat in battles. And when Sol made him believe Starclan was not real, he only believed him because he was scared, and weak because he was hurt by his past. I don’t know if that made sense
I always felt bad for black star and how he always thought he was doing the right thing and then he understands he's not and now he just has it always haunt him

When I saw this, I thought my eyes were playing a trick on me. But it's real! An actual Blackstar PMV! OH MY GOD, I'VE WAITED FOREVER FOR THIS! 🤩🥳 And it's a damn good one, too. The Art is fantastic. Not the biggest fan of the song, but that's just because this isn't my type of music. The lyrics fit Blackstar pretty much perfectly. I wish I could give more likes...
Blackstar is one of the best characters in the entire franchise. Even though he's just a side character, he is more three-dimensional than some of the main characters. The fact that he started out as a villain and underwent an (sadly for the most part unseen) redemption, is already enough reason to make him interesting. Small details like his (implied) feelings of guilt and depression, or that he wasn't born a natural leader but had to learn to be one, are just the icing on the cake. He's so cruelly underrated...

Wow, just think what Blackstar had to go through, trying to undo the bloody legacies of not one but two of his predecessors. That phrase "I'll Never Wear Your Broken Crown" fits Blackstar so well.

Even though he isn't my favorite characters and can be quite a jerk in the books sometimes, I can respect the character arc that he goes through in the books. First he's a respectable warrior, then he kills Stonefur and everyone hates him, then he redeems himself as a good leader then everyone hates him because of his issues with Starclan in POT, then he is redeemed again before he dies. Gotta love a good character arc with ups as well as downs. They can't all be 100% perfect

This is the first warriors map I ever watched, way before I knew anything about it. I’ve just finished the first 4 series, and omg re watching this, it makes so much more sense. Lol. Thanks Vega for getting me interested in warriors!!

I still have mixed feelings about Blackstar, yes he was an amazing warrior and I understand that when times get rough you can lose faith and all but as a leader he should have made sure he picked a better deputy to teach the apprentices to be more nice. I absolutely hate ShadowClan now and I feel like the Erins are starts to have people hate them more instead of the others with the Apprentice's Quest arc. :/ I'm not sure, I need more info and videos to get a complete solid opinion on Blackstar and ShadowClan
TBF Russetfur was an excellent deputy, and was Blackstar's deputy for the vast majority of his reign. Part of Rowanclaw's problem was that he was TOO nice. Blackstar and Russetfur kept their asses in line.

Black star is underrated and hated on. He’s just a loyal dude who follows orders. He’s a soldier. That’s his mindset. And when he became leader he became a strategist. He uses his head
