It's not about feeling like a race car driver, it's about knowing what & how the engine is running. Just having a light come on when there is problem it's to late. Having gauges tells you what's happening in real time.
Thanks mate, very well put together: all of the necessary information, time lapse sequences where necessary, great editing, great audio.. SAAS should hire ya!
Nice good job, I'm about to do this to my commodore you needed a 38mm water temp adapter as yours is VZ mine is a VY so I will need to use the 34mm adapter. There's no reason why Holden needed to use 2 different size diameter hoses I guess somone from the design department needed somthing to do that day to look busy before the whole company went down the toilet.
Nice video mate. Probability a stupid question but would gauges be good on a 2014 Holden evoke? I know nothing about cars and thought gauges were only used on manuals 🤣🤣🤣 I have an auto and keen to install some. Cheers
I reckon it might be time to break out the old 3D printer and come up with some other uses for the 'gauge pod' area of the car ... anyone have any ideas? I was thinking a secondary screen of some type connected to an OBD2?
That would be a pretty cool idea. I’d love to see what you come up with. Feel free to send me a photo of your creation on Instagram :) Thanks for watching
Hey mate, appreciate ya time n effort. Just curious where you mounted the secondary ground wire?? I need to relocate the wiring for my gauges and the bloke who did it has used the cig lighter plug behind the storage compartment which is for sat nav/gps and as it has power, lights and ground he has wired the ground in there as well. I want to move my wiring to the fuse box exactly as you have and need a new home for ground, hopefully something close to the head unit or gauges. Cheers 👍🏻
There shouldn’t be a issue as it won’t be in the way if you want to cheat take the top of where the gauges go and look in there and see if you can see holes on the right in there to acces the fuse box

Good question. Could be multiple things. Does it light up when the lights are on? If not there might not be any power. The connection that reads the heat measure could be dodgy aswell
Instead of using a match to shrink the heat shrink if you don’t have anything else use your soldering iron on the heat shrink way better than the matches 😂

you seem like a very nice and friendly young gentleman. thanks for the video
We need more videos like this in the car community. Nice job!!
Wind your thread tape on clockwise whilst looking at the thread end, so when you screw it in it tightens with the thread and not against it.

These gauges look really good on the dash 👍
Using the oil pressure and temp that should be available from the OBD2 port might be easier though.
Ah ok good to know! I don't own a scanner just yet hahah but hopefully will soon :)
@@JamesMayer125 get a cheap Bluetooth ELM 327 from China and a free app for your phone for starters. Costs about 5 bucks and does a reasonable job.
this mans out here flexing in 2020 with an engine that has less than 90k km, that right there is a barn find
2023 I've got one with less than 80k 😉
@@lazy_old_grunt1843 I've got one with 280k!
you did really good job explaining it! Nice work!
great video mate!
easy to follow your foolproof guide BUT ......I have a 2003 vy , is it still the top hose I cut through?
really helpful but what do i do for the constant power for the gauge memory when the car is off
Nice video mate. Probability a stupid question but would gauges be good on a 2014 Holden evoke? I know nothing about cars and thought gauges were only used on manuals 🤣🤣🤣 I have an auto and keen to install some. Cheers
what size was the oil pressure gauge adaptor . . .
The temperature gauge shoots up out of nowhere because it doesn't read until the thermostat openes up.
🤣🤣 Hence why the factory one is in the engine block. Little does he know he’s got two of the same gauges

Can I use this in my vy calais it has the digital climate cotnrol

Is this the same for ls1
Hey mate great video, just wondering would you be able to link me the coolant and oil pressure sensor you’ve put on the adapters cheers.
Are u able to put all the things u brought and their links somewhere, as I don’t know which wires and all that I need
They are in the description.
Great vid man could you resend the link for the oil pressure sensor cause this one don't work

I just ordered oil press and oil temp gauges and the electric job still gives me lots of anxiety
It’s really not the hard I went with the saas digital screen and to be honest it was way eaiser and better sensor setup
In my Commodore vz 2006 having heating problem whats the solution
hey mate done everything guages are working good however got no light on the dash and stereos not turning on anymore any ideas?
Sounds like you’ve blown a fuse. Have a good look around and test them with a multimeter. Good luck
@@JamesMayer125 nah all good bro i figured it out realised the fuse taps need two fuses on each tap🤦♂️ rookie mistake
Happens to the best of us. 👍
Thanks for guide it was very helpfull
Hi dit same as you but my temp gauge doesn’t move got idea what did wrong connected to fuse box and sensor then earth on body I give up

What gauge wire
the gauge adapter needs to be 16mm for VF commodores, not 14mm
What psi does your oil pressure gauge sit at idle when the car is at normal temperature
About 30psi
Cheers, do you think i may have a problem if im sitting at 20?
I'm not an expert so I'm not too sure but it should be fine. Maybe ask around though
@@MannyG88yowhat engine?
@@MannyG88yoassuming it’s a 3.6 alloytec. With engine warm, increase engine speed to 2000rpm. Oil pressure should read a minimum of 20psi.

😂😂😂 that would have been a smarter idea. I would have just used the lighter but it ran our of gas and couldn't be bothered going up the street 😂
Fuse taps ?
Great things they are! those little things at 6:40 allow you to add an extra fuse to the same socket for other accessories (Like gauges) :)
Which model is it mines 2006
2006 as well
👍🏼👍🏼
Cool i was just gonna use amps and stuff cuz i thought the oil would be to hard but that was a peice of piss
Damn this kid is good
Thanks mate
Now try this on a newer car and find out that you do NOT have the ports to get the job done.....try this and see.
oh yeah. not a huge fan of most of the newer cars
I think next u should concentrate on steam cleaning that horrendously dirty engine bay
Lost brain cells watching
Gotta have em to start with 😉🤙🏻
