Long ago, I was born in the Italian concession also, lived in the British concession and went to school in the French. All different now, (even the name) but vivid memories remain. Especially the street food. You can take the boy out of Tientsin, but not Tientsin out of the boy. Thanks for the update.

I have been in Tianjin in Two Different times. Studied Chinese Language for One year in this city at the mouth of Bohai. Presented my countries name on the walls of its Natura History Museum, "The cradle of mankind" Ethiopia! Tianjin is Simply Nice to me.

The Gou bu li (dogs ignore others:long time ago the name of the owner of goubulibaozi is GOUZI which means dogs becase in old China we named the young GOUZI, ER EGG, etc. )baozi isn't the flavor like that decades ago. Now it‘s running by tianjin government which doesn't belong to anyone. with the styles completely having change, we, as locals, seldom eat it.
at that point when people called him, he would ignore you, because he was so busy that he had no time to speak to you. so the name of this food called GOU BU LI.

Regarding to the city view, you won't miss the 花城广场 right in the CBD, and take a boat for 珠江夜游 at night. I guess you are a food hunter, so don't forget to have a 早茶, 牛肉火锅 and 烧味。Unfortunately, I'm studying in UK so might not be able to be your guide in the next one year. Lol where is this? The last time i went to tianjin, i didn’t do much research and only eat goubuli and shibajie mahua and go all the way so far to binhai xin qu to go to the library. Didn’t get to go to the european district at all. Now i have to visit tianjin again but unfortunately have to go thru my least favorite city in china though.

Tianjin, is a very sad story. Invaded by foreigner when the times the places is full of unjustice. Low pay, and worse is works long hour's. Almost money slaves, if foreigner successful control China, That it end of Chinese. The Suffering and mystery of the history his new generation will not be understanding enough about his life is difficult abouts.
And this place is my hometown :) I’m really glad people discover my city and are fascinated. In fact, I’m fascinated too. In these 9 years I’ve spent living in another place, a lot has happened in Tianjin and so many things have changed. But the same feeling of my belonging to this city can never change.

For lunch or dinner, some good examples are Halal food (like beef noodle soup), shrimp with fried dough (dumianjin, or 独面筋), laobaosan (老爆三), etc.

Actually westerners can fall in love lots of things in China. Sadly, Chinese people in Taiwan and Hong Kongm and even some ABCs in western country hate their racial background and cultural heritages.
You're right, some Chinese are just so smitten with all things associated with western countries and cultures, you just can't satisfy everyone.We just know that China is on its way to a greater future, who cares about those haters.

The ice sculptures were rly pretty and it was worth the cold! :') Changsha and Wuhan are really nice cities to live in!! I took a cruise down the 长江 called 知音号 at Wuhan. Its really amazing as the cruise was set in the early 1900s context. You will like it :')

You went to the wrong place for breakfast. 南市食品街 is nothing but a tourist attraction. The food there cannot represent the ture level of Tianjin food culture at all.
Binyu Wang As a foreigner, she won’t know the right place to have a local breakfast is just under your home because fist of all she don’t have home there, second it’s too complicated to introduce. So as a native Tianjin citizen, I agree with her going there as her first breakfast restaurant.
I love Tianjin a lot~really enjoyed my trip there, next time perhaps you could try 黑蒜子牛肉粒,a nice beef dish for meat lovers. And also i reckon you could give XIA MEN a go, you might love it~

You went to the wrong place for breakfast. 南市食品街 is nothing but a tourist attraction. The food there cannot represent the ture level of Tianjin food culture at all.
Binyu Wang As a foreigner, she won’t know the right place to have a local breakfast is just under your home because fist of all she don’t have home there, second it’s too complicated to introduce. So as a native Tianjin citizen, I agree with her going there as her first breakfast restaurant.

天津现在天真蓝。还记得12年冬天在天津上大学,pm2.5爆表600多。宿舍二楼阳台看不见停在一楼的自行车。雾霾治理真的可以。
因为是夏天亚,只有冬季比较严重,当然现在空气质量比前几年好多了

I'm considering going on exchange to tianjin.. originally I wanted to go to Europe because my boyfriend has an EU passport, but my course isn't offered there! tianjin uni offers EXACTLY what I am studying and I just love asia I'm honestly considering just coming to Tianjin instead
