I love my gvm pro lights i have the 300c and 300b when it comes to build quality and output the gvm pro line is unbeatable

Have you actually tried correcting the green cast on the GVM using the GM offset? The Amaran, despite it's drawbacks, really looks much better in that side-by-side, and after all, isn't that the most important aspect of a light? It'd be great if the GVM could match the CRI of the Amaran by tweaking that GM control.

Hey! I appreciate so much about you sharing this video!
I know that youtubers in the video production niche only have a limited amount of time and money and can't take in and review every make and model of every light. But I do wish there were more videos talking about the differences between similarly priced lights and eco systems. Seems like nobody really goes in to talking about the differences between Smallrig, Nanlite, GVM, Amaran, etc. and reviews mostly live in the vacuum of other brands.
Another thing to tack on with the Amaran 300c is there is a case available like the GVM case for an extra $75us, so for parity it would bring the difference between that up even more.
I'm looking into buying my first set of lights, so ecosystem is definitely something on my mind, but I'm wondering how much do you stick to multiple brands for best tool for the job, or like to stick to a singular brand for best compatibility?

When I first started building my lighting kit, I used to stick to one brand, but now I mix and match. The only real downside is all the different apps you need to install; otherwise, it's great to try out all the different brands.

If you're interested in either of those lights, look at the nanlite fs300c, it's about $100 cheaper, full color 300w chip like these two but it's got a built in power supply, so the setup time is quicker and it's less gack overall. And the build quality is better than the amaran, but maybe not as strong as the gvm

@@OBP_fs300c is 316fc with the dish at 3m (5600k) while the amaran 300c is only 218fc , same distance, whitepoint, and its dish.
Also if you want to be able to run 2 brands app at the same time, get a tablet that capable of doing split screen and then you have control at once

Sorry for this unrelated question. I see you live and work in the UK (is it London?). What are the current rates for a freelancer's day of shooting or for small freelance jobs like music videos or small commercials nowadays? Thank you for your help, great content!

"build quality" was spelled wrong! idc, I am just surprised with how good your videos look that one slipped through :)

In Italy, the price difference between the two is more than $50. The GVM costs €499 and the Amaran €695, a difference of almost a €200.

@@Asturev The prices are from Amazon Italy. I could use a VPN to buy them where they cost less, but then I would have to pay shipping and, if outside the EU, also import taxes and VAT.

That "BUILD QALUITY" triggered me 😅 anyways, great comparison! I don't own a pro-series light by GVM and these pretty sure are on another level compared to their budget series, but even an SD80D is great value for the money (if you pick up 2 it's like 99,50€ each).

If it’s not Amaran, Aputure, or Nanlite, it’s not worth your time if you’re a working professional.

@@Supercon57 I guess I should have said base kit. Yes, Asteras, Astras, Gemini Panels, Quasar tubes, and all of that too. But talking about the main base kit most gaffers I know have, it’s either Aputure or Nanlite. I have yet to see a smallrig, gvm, or Godox on set being used seriously.

This is a totally different price point than what professional gaffers shop in. This is more for newer filmmakers or content creators to own, like saying a Porsche is faster than a Toyota just because they're both cars.
