    Steve you have to take considerations with the degree of slope, going down is winning or almost not losing charge but going up is different because you are carrying the weight of the car and people up. Potential energy than you have spending when you going down. The only way to get the same result in both trips is without wind and in flat land.

    Thank you Steve ! I didn’t find a french youtuber Who talk about the eGolf so I had find you and I’m very happy ...1 more subscriber 😃
    I just order an eGolf this week and I’m watching your videos with a great pleasure.
    (Also one of my dream is to have a Tesla 😉).
    And I would like to say to you that I like your humour !

      Thanks Nicolas, that’s very kind.
      We love our e-Golf, it’s epic!
      My Tesla is in the garage as someone crashed in to it so I have an Audi e-Tron for now. The e-Golf is 10 times more fun to be in! ( 5 ways the e-Golf beats the e-Tron coming out in a few weeks)
      Have a great weekend!

    I find the GOM uses the past hour or so of driving history, so no long term learning by computer. I find range estimate is pretty accurate. I find it best to only think about range at 50% charge. I hypermile so usually expect at “half tank” 80 mile in mild weather and 60 mile range in cold weather (or high speed driving). I usually drive in Eco mode ,too.

    This is really useful, thanks - expecting ours soon after a couple of years in a Golf GTE. Very handy to see what's different to the current car, particularly going back to "normal" dials after the active info display!

    Great Review Steve
    I arrange the loan of an EV with local VW dealer for a couple of days to see if the Egolf can fit into my routine.
    Your videos are a good encouragement to go Electric

    Enjoyed your egolf vids Steve - Im hoping my factory built egolf will be here soon - although our climate is not like Norway I opted for the Winter Pack and Heat Pump to hopefully help with range - am also getting an OBDEleven to check battery % SOC etc as the range with the GOM is just a guess and as you pointed out depends on lots of variables - keep up the good work.

    Hi Steve,
    the eGolf is calculating the range according to the previous driving style (other than Tesla with its fixed typical range value).
    Did you have had some more energy consuming driving before the trip?
    During your journey, the range calculating did adapt to the driving style, so the range display was more accurate for the trip on the way back?!
    The displayed range at full charge could be different when the previous driving styles are different.
    As far as I know, the eGolf always (indepently to navigation) switches to eco-mode under a certain SOC, but you can switch back to normal-mode.
    Later on at even lower SOC, the eGolf switches to eco+ mode ... but I am not sure if you can switch back to normal mode then.

    I'm not an EV driver (yet) but I reckon pre-heating the battery while it was still on charge probably helped to increase the efficiency on the outbound journey maybe mostly down hill on the way there as well?

    • @SteveJulien
      @SteveJulien  4 роки тому +2

      Pre heating certainly helped plus we had a very stop/start journey home.
      I’m going to do some more range tests soon just to double check what happened and that the battery goes down in a linear way.

    Great video. 👍🏻🚗🔋 i was in Frankfurt in september to look at the ID.3. Great car but very plastic. The e-golf is more premium 👍🏻 you did not take the active info display? That looks great 👍🏻 the power thing is that you can not use the full power because your battery is getting little low

    • @SteveJulien
      @SteveJulien  4 роки тому +1

      Ahh, I’ve not seen an ID3 yet.
      The EGolf does have a really nice feel to it and when I shut the doors, sounds much better than our Tesla!
      Thanks for the info on the power gauge, that explains it!

    Hi Steve, love your videos, I own a Tesla Model 3 dual motor and recently picked up a '17 e-Golf for the missus. Great little car and I would recommend it to anybody who wants to get their first EV or just needs a nifty little runabout. I have one question though: where did you get those black stripes next to the fog light? Makes it looks great 👍

    • @SteveJulien
      @SteveJulien  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks!
      They’re stock on some but not others for some reason. 🤷🏽‍♂️
      Think it might be a manufacturing date thing.
      I can recommend the acceleration boost on the 3 if you haven’t done it already.
      Have a great weekend.

      @@SteveJulien hi Steve, thanks for your reply! I think I've figured out that the black stripes came with the 2019 refresh. Going to ask the VW dealer if I could get them retrofitted. BTW do you know if there are any nice extras to be unlocked on this car with Vagcom? Ours is base-spec, exactly the same as yours. Regarding the Tesla; I've managed to resist the urge to buy the upgrade but it's always in the back of my mind. I'm sure it won't be long before I finally give in 😁 cheers!

    3.6 or 3.7 sounds pretty much the same to me. It could be your driving got smoother with time. The power gauge dropped a bit to prevent you from draining the pack too quickly as you neared the red zone on “fuel”. At 31 miles range car automatically forces Eco mode so you get to your destination - Tesla doesn’t nanny you but this is a German car. Enjoy.

      That’s great. I currently have a polo , which is both my second polo and second ever car I’ve owned. I was keeping an ear out on possible scrapage scheme for an e-golf but that was quickly dismissed. Currently keeping an ear out for id3 and other VW Eva that may appear in the future

    Hi there! Does this car have a start button or is it the good old fashioned key to start the car?

      You can spec either.
      We have the base model (which is well equipped) and it has a key. We’d spec keyless next time and reversing camera.

    3:00 I am wondering how your navigation still has the rotary knobs? ...
    Unfortunately, VW removed them a longer time ago in Germany. Seems like the UK version still gets these knobs? 👍

      Here in the Netherlands, the knobless navi is an 1000 euro option. Probably the same in UK.

    well would u recosmwent the e gold for someone that does not owna a house and does not hawe an option to plug and charge home

    • @SteveJulien
      @SteveJulien  4 роки тому

      Good question.
      I think any EV may be a struggle without the ability to just plug it when you get home.
      If you have access to an outside socket, you could easily charge off a plug socket.
      A local/work charger may also be an option.
      You’d need to be 100% sure you could find a way to conveniently charge though or it may become a chore.
