I don't think there was any "allowing". The fans were in the trackside access section and there were simple waist high metal gates separating them from the track, like you would see at a parade or similar. When that big crowd pushed the gates over and started running, there was no where near enough security to stop them. I watched the mains from the stands, and when we walked down to the track after the races, the gates were still laying flat on the ground, we had to jump over them (spectators are allowed on the track briefly after the races).

I've been there many times and the gates have been the same for years, never more required. There were the usual drunks but the weed was everywhere, it was hard to get a breath of fresh air and it's my belief these things contributed to the crowds bad behavior. I'm so sick of addicts..
Those 2 guys fighting over Jett's goggles during his burnout was disgusting. They stole those goggles from some kid who should've gotten them. Full grown men shouldn't be idolizing other men and acting like that in public. They're just goggles! That crowd was so drunk and high, it was ridiculous, that probably factored into the decision to jump the gates early. I was there and the non stop smell of weed was disgusting, and of course the drunks were out. Some drunk behind us fell down the stairs and his beer can hit my wife in the head and covered her with beer. It's getting to the point that we can't go anywhere in public without dealing with the addicts.

Who the heck is Johnny Hopper? No idea. I simply appreciate that somebody his level of pure SX MX speed (may even still have his USA Pro License (no idea because he’s always pin-pointing things that, in my 50 years of racing MX, I would never see or even think of.). There are a lot of channels with S/MX riders, fans, and pundits my age but nobody breaks it down like Hopper. Support this guy. The absence of hype is a great time saver. All signal/no static. I think the race was great and probably no chance that this had anything to do with it, but they broke the rules. Interesting to see if it is addressed. They loaded the bike into the gate then made changes to it, pretty clear infraction.
There were no rules broken. Johnny is just stirring up drama for clicks. All the mechanic did was engage the holeshot device and remove the tire warmer late. Everyone's mechanic bumps into the other riders. the difference is they're usually not doing it 3 seconds before the gate drops. They weren't working on the bike because there were no tools involved. Only one crew member touched the bike.

Section 1.8.8 b,2 "Each Rider may have only one crew member accompany them to the Starting Gate. No other crew members are permitted at the Starting Gate." Jett had one and Hunter had one. Christien Ducharme - Race Mechanic, Jett Lawrence Cameron Camera - Race Mechanic, Hunter Lawrence There is no mention of tire warmers in the rule book. Engaging the holeshot device and removing tire warmers is not working on the bike. There were no tools involved. Ferrandis had 2 crew phoenix racing honda crew members attending to him, and he's the only 450 guy for their team. Section 1.8.10 a,2 "In the event a Rider needs to make repairs once loaded in the starting gate, the motorcycle must be pushed back from the gate to behind the rear restraint before any repairs can be made, so as not to interfere with other competitors." - This is where it was on the stand behind the gate.
Once the all clear is given at the start all mechanics are required to vacate the starting area (usually around the 30 second board going up). Also one mechanic per rider on the starting gate. Jett had two

The rules should always be strictly enforced. If we constantly make exceptions to the rules the line between what is legal or illegal is blurred. If the rules seem to harsh the teams can ask the AMA to change them in the future.
Ok strictly enforce the rules and every rider who has had 2 mechanics help with there hole shot devices gets a DQ now we see that every week too. Dose Deegan now loose his win for the Ghost ride because a writen warning isn't enforcing that rule. Everyone's bars get bumped on the starting line from mechanics moving from the front of their respective bike to the back so penalising one penalise all in that case, did they cut it fine yes but they did miss engaging the whole shot button 3 times so it was finer than it needed to be for sure. This is a storm in a tea cup for all the Jett haters to get on board because he smoked Tomac at Deytona let's be honest because not once have we heard people yelling about 2 mechanics touching a bike until this round and yet we see every weekend 2 mechanics helping to engage a holeshot device. The only guy to be disadvantaged here was Lawrance he was the only one not set 100% in his starting posture or position and he would have felt that rear tire cover being removed, no its a totally diffrent story if the mechanic was hitting the other bikes, there is really nothing in this warning first offence and a fine ...... haters got to hate I guess.

As per the rule book, there was interference with other riders. But with that said, the AMA will do nothing because Jett is their golden boy. However, if it was Anderson or Barcia they would have filed criminal charges. Talk about discrimination against certain riders. The bike should have been pulled back from the starting gate .
I would consider this a repair to the motorcycle. Weren’t they changing Jett’s rear tire after the parade lap prior to the gate drop? In regards to removing the tire cover it is all apart of the repair process
Let’s imagine for a moment that every rider on the gate each had two team members working on their bikes, bumping into other riders. That would be more than 40 crew members and 20+ riders all on the gate 30 seconds before the gate drops. I don’t think the AMA would allow that, so was is it allowed without penalty for one rider? Seems like some special accommodation.
If the AMA doesn’t address the obvious infractions by Honda, they lose all credibility and will further erode trust in their justice system. You made some stellar observations and factually pointed out the AMA can only rely on their reserved right to enforce what hasn’t been covered in the penalty phase.

Jett should not have been allowed to start the race. His bike was not ready to race when it was pushed up to the gate. And, there were two guys at the gate working on the bike after the 30 second board was up. Automatic DQ. The rules are clearly stated. Ask Jeff Ward about what happens when your bike is at the gate and you need to do something to it.
I think your observations of the repair on the gate are very keen and actually relevant for the AMA to consider. A few races ago one of the 250 max anstie had a problem with his bike and he did not even consider trying to get in gate and fix the bike so yeah the rules were violated and what good are the rules of they are only preferentially enforced. ? Although I know what you are trying to say at 11:30, a heavier object does not fall faster due to gravity. Drop a 10lb and 30lb dumbbell from your roof, they hit the ground at the same time.
This is the thing with the AMA, the inconsistency in how they discipline riders and use penalties. The week before, Deegan is warned by AMA for his mini ghost ride, but Plessinger, and Jett last motocross season, did similar ghost rides but not a peep was heard from AMA about those. Im ok with Deegan getting the warning i just don't know where the line is with the AMA. Its like they pick and choose who they do and don't penalize. Its a bad look for the sport that we have a bad officiating model. As for Tomac being frustrated and that was why his bike was smoking, i don't really see the connection. Whether he was frustrated or not, there was a good chance that his bike would have smoked, due to the fact the race was somewhat muddy and had sand and huge ruts, all of which lead most to use more clutch, and as Tomac said in the post race presser, he is a clutch abuser anyway, and i credit Tomac for not using the smoking clutch as an excuse, and he said he didn't even know the bike was smoking and never felt the clutch going away or the bike losing power.

Take a look at the slow motion start of Jett. Did you see him use those starting blocks to push off the start. They are legal but I’ve never seen anyone use them as leverage to push. Very interesting. 🤔
Deegans case was more of a, let off into the face thing but got more caught up into the ruts that time than previous laps, if you're off the throttle it's like hitting the brakes.

11:20 I have to point out something that I just can't not comment about. The acceleration due to gravity has NOTHING TO DO WITH AN OBJECTS MASS. Yes, as the weight increases the the force of gravity increases, but the reason they need to go faster as the mud builds up and the ruts deepen is because the lip of the jump gets lower. This changes the Range equation angle (R=V^2*sin2∆/g). As ∆ decreases the R decreases. The only way for R (range, length of jump) to be maintained is to by increasing V (velocity) on takeoff. g for Gravity is a constant acceleration and the mud does not impact it whatsoever. g is the same for all objects regardless of mass. Its all about the angle decreasing as the ruts get deeper. Ok that's what I came to say. Really great video otherwise Johnny.
I think the whole matter of what is a repair/ modification goes out the window with hole shot buttons.Tyre blankets hole shot button is not a repair in mechanical context but they are modifications from when the bike left the paddock or pits depending on that interpretation however the machine is modified or adjusted from when the rider commenced a sighting lap so ban hole shot buttons which I don't advocate for but the rules then have clarity
Removing tyre cover is not really repairing but it was done to gain an advantage. Rule change in the interest of leveling playing field for all would be no tyre change after sight lap. If they want a clean tyre for the start don't do the sight lap. I am surprised they don't have tear offs all over the bike to remove mud before the start. Sexton made good progress, is he on KYB forks....
If it was another rider they would get penalized. AMA and Feld are catering to Jett all for the money. They have been doing little stuff like this to help him win the Championship.

There is no mention of tire warmers in the rule book. Engaging the holeshot device and removing tire warmers is not working on the bike. There were no tools involved. Ferrandis had 2 crew phoenix racing honda crew members attending to him, and he's the only 450 guy for their team.

The rules should always be strictly enforced. If we constantly make exceptions to the rules the line between what is legal or illegal is blurred. If the rules seem to harsh the teams can ask the AMA to change them in the future.
Ok strictly enforce the rules and every rider who has had 2 mechanics help with there hole shot devices gets a DQ now we see that every week too.
Dose Deegan now loose his win for the Ghost ride because a writen warning isn't enforcing that rule.

Everyone's bars get bumped on the starting line from mechanics moving from the front of their respective bike to the back so penalising one penalise all in that case, did they cut it fine yes but they did miss engaging the whole shot button 3 times so it was finer than it needed to be for sure. This is a storm in a tea cup for all the Jett haters to get on board because he smoked Tomac at Deytona let's be honest because not once have we heard people yelling about 2 mechanics touching a bike until this round and yet we see every weekend 2 mechanics helping to engage a holeshot device. The only guy to be disadvantaged here was Lawrance he was the only one not set 100% in his starting posture or position and he would have felt that rear tire cover being removed, no its a totally diffrent story if the mechanic was hitting the other bikes, there is really nothing in this warning first offence and a fine ...... haters got to hate I guess.

historically speaking the AMA will leave HRC alone. HRC has always carried a lot of weight in the sport.
As per the rule book, there was interference with other riders. But with that said, the AMA will do nothing because Jett is their golden boy. However, if it was Anderson or Barcia they would have filed criminal charges. Talk about discrimination against certain riders. The bike should have been pulled back from the starting gate .
I would consider this a repair to the motorcycle. Weren’t they changing Jett’s rear tire after the parade lap prior to the gate drop? In regards to removing the tire cover it is all apart of the repair process

Let’s imagine for a moment that every rider on the gate each had two team members working on their bikes, bumping into other riders. That would be more than 40 crew members and 20+ riders all on the gate 30 seconds before the gate drops. I don’t think the AMA would allow that, so was is it allowed without penalty for one rider? Seems like some special accommodation.
If the AMA doesn’t address the obvious infractions by Honda, they lose all credibility and will further erode trust in their justice system.

Jett should not have been allowed to start the race. His bike was not ready to race when it was pushed up to the gate. And, there were two guys at the gate working on the bike after the 30 second board was up. Automatic DQ. The rules are clearly stated. Ask Jeff Ward about what happens when your bike is at the gate and you need to do something to it.
I think your observations of the repair on the gate are very keen and actually relevant for the AMA to consider. A few races ago one of the 250 max anstie had a problem with his bike and he did not even consider trying to get in gate and fix the bike so yeah the rules were violated and what good are the rules of they are only preferentially enforced. ? This is the thing with the AMA, the inconsistency in how they discipline riders and use penalties. The week before, Deegan is warned by AMA for his mini ghost ride, but Plessinger, and Jett last motocross season, did similar ghost rides but not a peep was heard from AMA about those. Im ok with Deegan getting the warning i just don't know where the line is with the AMA. Its like they pick and choose who they do and don't penalize. Its a bad look for the sport that we have a bad officiating model. As for Tomac being frustrated and that was why his bike was smoking, i don't really see the connection. Whether he was frustrated or not, there was a good chance that his bike would have smoked, due to the fact the race was somewhat muddy and had sand and huge ruts, all of which lead most to use more clutch, and as Tomac said in the post race presser, he is a clutch abuser anyway, and i credit Tomac for not using the smoking clutch as an excuse, and he said he didn't even know the bike was smoking and never felt the clutch going away or the bike losing power.

Two mechanics distracting the surrounding riders, who are all in the championship hunt, seconds before the gate drop, is definitely grounds for some action taken against team Honda. I knew this was trouble when I saw them opting for a tire change after the hot lap.

I was sure Johnny didn't have the guts to talk about this but he proved me wrong . He did the right thing despite knowing he would face criticism , major props to you . Nobody said rules have to make sense , a ton of them don't and many are just beyond absurd not just in sports but life in general . That being the case, rules are rules and they must must must be enforced regardless of who it is against . You can never pick and choose and picking and choosing happens regularly in all aspects of life and it needs to stop . Don't like the rules than fight to change them but if it's in the rule book they must always be enforced.

11:20 I have to point out something that I just can't not comment about. The acceleration due to gravity has NOTHING TO DO WITH AN OBJECTS MASS. Yes, as the weight increases the the force of gravity increases, but the reason they need to go faster as the mud builds up and the ruts deepen is because the lip of the jump gets lower. This changes the Range equation angle (R=V^2*sin2∆/g). As ∆ decreases the R decreases. The only way for R (range, length of jump) to be maintained is to by increasing V (velocity) on takeoff. g for Gravity is a constant acceleration and the mud does not impact it whatsoever. g is the same for all objects regardless of mass. Its all about the angle decreasing as the ruts get deeper. Ok that's what I came to say. Really great video otherwise Johnny.

I think the whole matter of what is a repair/ modification goes out the window with hole shot buttons.Tyre blankets hole shot button is not a repair in mechanical context but they are modifications from when the bike left the paddock or pits depending on that interpretation however the machine is modified or adjusted from when the rider commenced a sighting lap so ban hole shot buttons which I don't advocate for but the rules then have clarity

Removing tyre cover is not really repairing but it was done to gain an advantage. Rule change in the interest of leveling playing field for all would be no tyre change after sight lap. If they want a clean tyre for the start don't do the sight lap. I am surprised they don't have tear offs all over the bike to remove mud before the start. Sexton made good progress, is he on KYB forks....
If it was another rider they would get penalized. AMA and Feld are catering to Jett all for the money. They have been doing little stuff like this to help him win the Championship.
