I agree. I would not mind Cerberus to appear again as villans or allies but TIM should be dead. Maybe cerberus split in the 2-3 factions, with the 'good' one being led by Miranda and helping the Alliance to rebuild the relays

His idea to control the reaper was resolved by us either accepting his philosophy of control was right and choosing to control the reapers or rejecting it by destroying them (or picking synthethis)

Honestly I feel like that after the events of ME3, most of Cerberus would be dismantled and the only remains people with ties to the organisation would be the Ex-Cerberus members who probably create an alliance run organisation using reprocessed Cerberus technology and equipment, so maybe a "new" Cerberus working inside them, kind of like Hydra working inside SHIELD in the mcu.
I really hope they treat ME4 like Dragon Age Origins in regards to character creation. I'd love to play a Turian or Quarian in a Mass Effect singleplayer campaign.
See I've thought about this a lot like having playable races with their own racial strengths But think the voice acting would be to much and how about romance options!? As a Salarian your blocked out of all but as a. Asari all are available 🙂
I like the idea but I'm not sure Cerberus/Humans will be the ONLY ones with new relays. Weren't the Asari contemplating it too? Imagine if we have FACTIONS of relays. "I can't use the Turian relays because I'm not in good standing with the empire."
It would also be nice if at least in the 1st game we had different enemies. Likea evil faction of cerberus, the yahn and perhaps part of the krogan rebelling again. It would make it much more interesting and realistic than having I 'archvillain'
Maybe the Leviathans try to control Cerberus through mind control, since they have the infrastructure and tech, and try to rebuild the Reapers, but this time without their fatal error from the 1st time where the Reapers also tried to kill off their creators. The Leviathans were fine with wiping out intelligent life in the galaxy, just not themselves. I always imaged they'd be a logical next antagonist after their encounter with Shephard where they made it pretty clear they're self-interested assholes.
The moment I first saw this concept art, I immediately had a similar thought process. Even though I didn't assume that Cerberus would have taken over all of humanity. But it would definitely be an interesting setup.
I think Cerberus could return in some way in the next Mass Effect My theory is that Cerberus will be reborn through the Andromeda Intiative, the Intiative seems like something Tim would invest in as a back up plan of sorts and to ensure human domination in a diffrent galaxy sorta like how Hydra got reborn through Sheild in Captain America The Winter Soldier Cerberus has just infected the Initative as a parasite, at the end of Andromeda humanity takes control of Meridian, A reborn Cerberus would be extremley powerfull with Meridian at their disposal
I would be down with Cerberus being a major threat in the next game. It doesn't have to be The Illusive Man but something with Cerberus could be cool. I definitely agree that the next game doesn't have to be a galaxy wide ancient threat. Conflict in the galaxy and warring factions would be fun and interesting. It could also be a way to be able to play as different character races. You could play as different species in different conflicts and see how the wars and skirmishes around the galaxy are affecting everything. Honestly there is so much potential for the next Mass Effect. I just hope that they take there time and really double down on a great story, writing and characters! Cerberus is going to be like umbrella in resindet evil 7 a "reformed" institution, and just like umbrella in R8, in ME5(6) start to show is evil side again
The Cerberus ideal of human supremacy would likely be prominent given the Reaper War was won on Earth, making many humans feel justified in wanting to get ahead of the other races when it comes to galactic power. Recruitment would probably be fairly easy. It would be interesting to see if a surviving Cerberus Soldier or Scientist would try to rebuild the organization. Maybe under a different name though, since Cerberus is pretty much known on a galactic scale at this point and is universally hated. The new leader could use the new name as a cover, and they could be smarter and more ruthless compared to the The Illusive Man simply because they aren't indoctrinated. A rising dictator would be interesting and would make a very logical faction to fight against.
That would be really interesting. I Could see similar groups forming in the Turian Hierarchy or the Krogan Empire too. “The war may have been won on earth but it war won with Turian/Krogan Blood!” I honestly don’t think Humanity will be in a good spot at the start of the game seeing as Cerberus (a Human Supremacist group) invaded the Krogan and Salarian home worlds, enacted a Coup of the Galactic Council and Successfully Took the Citidell
@@mike21378 I agree it’d be a fascinating gameplay mechanic of trying to turn Cerberus from an evil anti alien terrorist organization back to a renegade pro human vigilante para military. Plus I always felt like the writers jacked up Cerberus in ME3 so bad because they had to justify Cerberus being the bad guys after cutting out half the game. I think originally whether or not you spent the game working for the paragon alliance or renegade Cerberus was determined by a choice at the beginning or whether or not you destroyed the collector base.
That's interesting just starts on a very bleak Earth where your a new protagonist walking past other aliens as oppressed minority in Earth Slums and over hearing messages of the danger aliens oppose......You meet your Commanding officer and say "Hail Cerberus!" 😆 It'd be a much darker tone to the glittering Citadel introduction and Galactic Community we had in the first game!
I don't know why I hadn't thought about Shepard's death before now but... shouldn't he have completely burned up on reentry? How was there a body to save?
Plot Armor. Between that and 'space magic', Sheppard was able to miraculously survive free fall through 60ish miles of atmosphere and the creation of a small crater when his, extra crispy, corpse smashed into the ground at, ohh, 200 MPH or so.
They wear helmets on the surface of the crash site planet if you visit it later, so i assumed the atmosphere of the planet is not comparable to what we know of earth, maybe it is much denser so it would be a slower fall, similar to submerging into water. But in the video sequence, one sees a kind of combustion development around his body. Miranda said the suit mostly kept everything intact. Which seems to have certain logic if you want to make armour against laser weapons which induces thermal energy. Id say it is set so far in the future that they might as well have protective gear that keeps your body in one piece if you crash down to a planets surface
@@funinscale2892 Shephard was also already revived using very modern tech, so I'd imagine Shephard's organs and brain were heavily altered to become resistant to damage.
The only thing is that we don’t know is what became of Cerberus after the events of Mass Effect 3, the writing on the on new Mass Relay could be a huge coincidence but if it was Cerberus, it would have their emblem on it. It is definitely possible.
If Cerberus does end up being the main villain of the next ME game I could see BioWare making the death of the "alien Council" canon (this power vacuum could make humanity gain more control in the long run).
Who does not know about cerberus, any new people would first play the trilogy and after that watch videos about the next title, i don't think anyone would watch this video with no info about the original trilogy. But even still i love your work and your love for the Mass Effect World. The only thing cerberus did right was to save shepard.
I'd be okay with that. I'd love to completely irradiate that bunch. But, I'd want to bring my toon. They need an option to continue the story with the same character if you chose all the right options.
I wish Cerberus can come back but not as a main villain. The role it played in ME2 would be a good fit in the new game (common goal with hidden agenda). I'd like to see Cerberus becomes political, help rebuild the galaxy but under human terms. Or maybe a civil war within Cerberus, alien sympathy (people like Kelly) vs. Hardline xenophobes. The former group want to make human rule like benevolent custodians and the latter want total domination. But please no TIM, he has done enough let him rest
I think it is possible they can return. My idea is the Illusive Man in the third game's ending could be a clone and the real T.I.M might be in hiding and possibly frozen in cryo. Or that that after the Illusive Man's death, possibly Miranda and/or Jacob work together and bring Cerberus back under thier leadership and bring the organisation under a new and possitive light to try and gain a good reputation with the galaxy after thier role in the fight with the Reapers. It would be unwise to let the organisation die of seeing as it had millions of resorces, money, reasearch and various other things go to waste.
I wouldn't put it past the idea of Cerberus coming back as main villains. The Illusive Man stated on the Cerberus Base mission, "Cerberus isn't just an organization or the people behind it. Cerberus is an idea. That idea is not so easily destroyed."

Its pretty clear the geth will play a bigger role in the next game based on the recent poster. That said, would love to see the Leviathans come back as an antagonist. They made it pretty clear in the ME3 DLC that they're self-interested assholes who were totally fine with wiping out intelligent life in the galaxy until their own creations wanted to destroy them too. Why not bring them back? Leviathans try to build Reapers 2.0 (minus that original flaw in their code), perhaps using the Geth, and similar to the Reapers they can control minds and cause people to turn on each other.
Seems kind of step down from Lovecraftian-esque machines that obliterate some life in the galaxy and puree others into more Lovecraftian-esque machines on a cycle.
I'd like to have Cerberus as a major player in ME4, but not as a straight up villain. I've always liked Cerberus in ME2 the most, because there they were morally grey and not straight up evil. Regarding bringing back TIM... I'm torn. I think dead characters should stay dead, otherwise death wouldn't mean anything anymore, but his death was part of ME3's infamous ending, soo..... you know :D
IF they chose to include ME andromeda in any way, they might add in new lore say "after the war a new golden age of technology was established" due to how much more advanced reaper technology is, and that maybe they managed to reverse-engineer then.. forward-engineer mass relay tech to such an extent that they could make not only replacement relays for the damaged ones, but also relays that could propel ships thousands if not millions of light-years, or maybe propel ships without a receiver-relay, such that say they send ships one-way towards the Andromeda galaxy, build a relay that then sends a ship another distance towards the Andromeda galaxy and so forth.. Then again, from what we've seen so far with the teaser videos and such from BioWare, say with Liara (who doesn't seem at least much older than she looked in the original trilogy), it seems safe to say that it is very unlikely we will see any Mass Effect Andromeda story-lines included in this next major Mass Effect game, as ME andromeda takes place +600 years after the original ME trilogy..
I think they will have a role to play in the story. Since the relays are being rebuilt whoever has control over them is a huge deal. How this ties into the story we get we will have to see how it plays out.
I hope that Bioware shows something on N7 day. I am not asking for teaser trailer or gameplay. Just some images or concept art and general plot synopsis. Just anything.

Humanity turning to Cerberus after every race in Galaxy came to Earth to help would be a very stupid turn. But still, we had Andromeda, so it's not that impossible
Maybe cerberus might return is some way in ME4 either as friend or foe, reason i think about that is we know some members of cerberus thought what they do is right but even they may not have known about the illusive man's plans in between the events of the end of ME2 and ME3 so after the ending of the third game maybe some members wanted to do what they thought of cerberus originally by helping humanity and to the extent other species since they came to earths aid in the final battle. And it'll be likely that the other faction of cerberus will still hold the illusive man's ideals and remain prohuman whatever reasoning they still wanna do it is likely a mystery. Though I could see cerberus having conflict of interest with each other. My reasoning is because well example of this is how umbrella from resident evil use to be this evil organization since they experiment viruses and other weapons that could destroy a city. Years later in RE7 we found out members of the old umbrella decided to buy the name of umbrella and try to make some positive view of the cooperation; even though the organization is remembered as evil. In summary I just think there might be a split in cerberus after the illusive man is killed, you could say he was the one to hold them in place during the events of ME1-ME3 but after his death the organization is likely split though on occasion they can agree on some things but overall their view points will be different on the other species after mass effect 3
You forgot to connect both Galaxies together because i doubt that the new cerberus in Andromeda will be an treat. I can imagine that cerberus will try to open a mass relay in Andromeda and take control over the galaxy but.... than the Jardaans arrive and we have a bigger treat to face
I don’t know if they could. They suffered an immense defeat near the end of 3, and The Illusive Man, at least my playthrough, decided to take a lead pill to cure his headache. And if 4 is pushing the idea that the canon ending choice was destruction, it’s likely that after the Alliance and the other alien species rebuilt their forces and relays, Cerberus would’ve been hunted down and finished if they hadn’t been finished already. Their own base was taken from them, after the destruction ending, it likely was left a dead wreck with no power. With the leadership dead and most soldiers being part synthetic, and therefore killed in the destruction ending, I don’t think Cerberus can come back in the first place.
Cerberus is much more than an Organization though. It’s an Ideology. Tim might be dead but there were plenty of rich and influential human supremacists funding Cerberus from the shadow who might step up to fill his place. Like the old saying goes “Cut off one head and two more shall take its place.” Hail Hy… um Cerberus, yeah Hail Cerberus!

I wouldn't want them to have taken control of all of humanity, but have them control former alliance colonies or something so they're still a credible threat.
There's something I call "the DBZ effect" which is basicaly vilains having to become more and more powerful so that they can still feel like a threat (Vegeta at first is said to be able to destroy a continent, then Freeza can destroy a planet and so on...). So, although I like the idea of having Cerberus as the vilains (from a political pov it even makes sense and would be interesting to see), after saving the whole fucking galaxy from the Reapers, I just think it would feel underwhelming. And that makes me think the next villain will probably be the hand behind the Reapers, something even more powerful and menacing. To me, personaly, it will feel forced and that's why I think they shouldn't even make a ME4, but since they are already going there anyway, this Cerberus take would be as good as any.
pretty sure shepherd is going to wake up in the london rubble and finish the fight against the reapers. Or we are going to continue the fight with someone else and fight indoctrinated shepherd while trying to fight the reapers.
Cerberus could play into a shattered galaxy. The only problem with Cerberus post Repaper War is that being affiliated with them would be like being an open Nazi in 1946.
While I believe a pro human terrorist group would be a villain in the game (taking control of or making their own mass relays), I'm not sure it would be Cerberus due to how many of their own splinter groups left the organization throughout the games. But they may have been part of Cerberus at one point
I can see why...think about about how dangerous they in the series even to other humans hate them more than the alien races. But we both know it wasn't the kindest of his heart just to stop the collectors, even willing to you aliens as tools to achieve their own goals.
It will be nice if they can bring back all old stuff back, inclduing Cerberus, that we have right before Reapers invasion part. they could definitely restore his consciousness and possibly import it into a newly constructed reaper. cerberus could attempt to mimic the reapers and have the illusive man return in a an expanded harbinger role. it's a way to bring back the reapers but not really bring back the reapers. build a new trilogy where you try to stop them from completing the task of creating a new control cycle of cerberus controlled reapers.
Yeah, they had to have done something with the illusive man when they implanted reaper tech in him, maybe a backup of the illusive man incase the surgery went wrong or something.
I am still pissed that they made Cerberus straight up villains in ME3. They had so much potential. The Illusive Man was an AMAZING character and he was kinda wasted tbh. I still wish they went with the Dark Energy plot.

And if that relay was built in the Andromeda galaxy and not in the milky way? If you remember the Initiative had a secret benefactor and I always thought he has something to do with Cerberus.
Yeah I actually wouldn't mind seeing a return to Cerberus, know they went full blown Galactic power by 3 somehow with a huge advanced army they apparently kept secret.......Which I thought was odd but if they played more of a covert or political force that was keeping its motives more secret and as a front for their dodgy antics could work!! Just like the Illusive Man said “Cerberus is an idea” ideas aren’t so good easy to kill. Wouldn’t have to be the Illusive Man it necessarily. (Also Cerberus didn’t save Sheppard they purposely had him offed so he could be useful to them. How else would they have known to be there to save his body? They explain this when you raid TIM’s base at the end of ME3.)
Doesn't Cerberus have Shepards DNA? Couldn't they clone Shepard and create offspring like Big Boss and his sons from Metal Gear Solid? Something similar would be interesting I think.

Kinda lame that the entire galaxy came together just to fight for whats left after. What if we could still introduce the darkmatter theory. Lets say that the reapers headed to dark space and there they encountered allies that held dominion over another galaxy (Andromeda perhaps) and now with the reapers gone the milky ways dark energy has run wild especially after the crucible activated. This would help explain why Andromeda feels so primitive compared, their overlords never shared their technology. The story becomes amdromeda needing the help of the milky way galaxy to defeat thos new threat
I would be okay with seperate cells of Cerberus working behind the scenes to seed conflicts, but they really shouldn't be the main villains... As far as i'm concerned, i would love to see a new alien and humanoid faction be the villain, especially if they were already set up in ME3. Leviathan would likely try to regain it's original place in the galaxy, while Aria would be in control of every major merc band in the galaxy after the war, so i think they would be obvious candidates for the antagonist roles. My own idea for an inciting incident for a new protagonist, is with them as a former special forces officer who works on a freighter now, and gets into contact with a new prototype tech developed by Leviathan to create super soldiers for it's army, with the freighter being attacked by Arias new merc band made up of the remains of the original three, after she learned of the tech and wants it for her own bid to take over the galaxy, trying to make it an "Omega for everyone!". So we would have a big new intimidating enemy to fight in Leviathan and it's thrall forces, while also having a close to home enemy in Aria, who a freight worker with special forces training would likely have known about and had dealings with in the past, or possible even have been betrayed by on a job, giving them a personal AND professional reason to stop her from taking over the galaxy. If you are going to make a new trilogy, which is very likely at this point, i would want the conflicts, enemies and allies to be new, with returning enemies and allies being mostly relegated to sidequests or the occasional cameo... So just like the Cerberus cell in Andromeda doing work on Kadara, Cerberus should at best be the force behind a conflict in a sidequest, like a "who did it?" murder mystery that ignited a war between two settlements on a planet, where you had to figure out that despite what it first looked like, it wasn't either side who murdered the person, but actually a Cerberus insider who you then have to capture and prove was the guilty party!

Well...he does tell Shepard that Cerberus is an ideal and that they have accomplished everything and more on the station...I've been a big proponent of a strong tie in to the original games but..if they keep too much of the original and it's themes and organizations might be just a rehash of what we've seen...seems to be a slippery slope...
I honestly hope you are wrong. I didnt bust my ass as Shepard uniting the galaxy to have it all ruined by a shitty sequel. Perhaps we should go small again. A simple adventurer exploring the post-shepard galaxy and stumbling into something bigger (and if possible that doesnt involve past friends killing each other)

I don't think Cerberus will be the bad guys, we had Cerberus be bad for literally all of Mass Effect. After their leadership has been killed, I'm pretty sure what's left of Cerberus will be allies. Making them the bad guys once again just feels... Redundant.
Counsel members trying to smuggle money out of the citadel toward the end of ME3 basically sums all the races, factions and characters who all had in common: Saving the galaxy is secondary to arguing with Shepard. The EXCEPTION was Cerberus, who's mission was is and will always be "protect humanity, no matter the cost". Cerberus was the only faction who had a mission statement and never once deviated from it. They are the only faction who ever saw Shepard as an ally. Whether you love Cerberus or hate Cerberus. Cerberus loved and supported Shepard. Did Shepard (Did you) ever WANT to betray Cerberus? Did you even see them as "bad"? Or did the game force that story forward regardless of how you viewed them in ME2? And to think that a human player given the option to side with humanity is "too racist" a concept for a videogame may say something about just how much "indoctrination" is taking place... somewhere... in an "alternate universe"

I think cerberus should be treated more as an anti-heroic group rather than the cartoon villians they became in me3. I mean you have cerberus characters with such potential like petrovsky who was an honorable character. I also like the fact that a faction for humanity and I think this is very realistic as humans have a tendency towards tribalism but I'd rather see cerberus as a band of brothers type organization rather than disposable pawn soldiers. I mean sometimes it feels like the merc groups have more of a sense of internal loyalty then cerberus which is supposed to be like a human nationalist group. You'd think they'd have more of a sense of comradery

I really hope they treat ME4 like Dragon Age Origins in regards to character creation. I'd love to play a Turian or Quarian in a Mass Effect singleplayer campaign.

I like the idea but I'm not sure Cerberus/Humans will be the ONLY ones with new relays. Weren't the Asari contemplating it too? Imagine if we have FACTIONS of relays. "I can't use the Turian relays because I'm not in good standing with the empire."

It would also be nice if at least in the 1st game we had different enemies. Likea evil faction of cerberus, the yahn and perhaps part of the krogan rebelling again. It would make it much more interesting and realistic than having I 'archvillain'

Maybe the Leviathans try to control Cerberus through mind control, since they have the infrastructure and tech, and try to rebuild the Reapers, but this time without their fatal error from the 1st time where the Reapers also tried to kill off their creators.
The Leviathans were fine with wiping out intelligent life in the galaxy, just not themselves. I always imaged they'd be a logical next antagonist after their encounter with Shephard where they made it pretty clear they're self-interested assholes.

The moment I first saw this concept art, I immediately had a similar thought process. Even though I didn't assume that Cerberus would have taken over all of humanity. But it would definitely be an interesting setup.
I think Cerberus could return in some way in the next Mass Effect
My theory is that Cerberus will be reborn through the Andromeda Intiative, the Intiative seems like something Tim would invest in as a back up plan of sorts and to ensure human domination in a diffrent galaxy

I would be down with Cerberus being a major threat in the next game. It doesn't have to be The Illusive Man but something with Cerberus could be cool. I definitely agree that the next game doesn't have to be a galaxy wide ancient threat. Conflict in the galaxy and warring factions would be fun and interesting. It could also be a way to be able to play as different character races. You could play as different species in different conflicts and see how the wars and skirmishes around the galaxy are affecting everything. Honestly there is so much potential for the next Mass Effect. I just hope that they take there time and really double down on a great story, writing and characters! Well I was thinking the other day, Playing as the Original Cerberus Phantom and leading your own cell would be fun
The Cerberus ideal of human supremacy would likely be prominent given the Reaper War was won on Earth, making many humans feel justified in wanting to get ahead of the other races when it comes to galactic power. Recruitment would probably be fairly easy.
It would be interesting to see if a surviving Cerberus Soldier or Scientist would try to rebuild the organization. Maybe under a different name though, since Cerberus is pretty much known on a galactic scale at this point and is universally hated.
The new leader could use the new name as a cover, and they could be smarter and more ruthless compared to the The Illusive Man simply because they aren't indoctrinated.
A rising dictator would be interesting and would make a very logical faction to fight against.

@@mike21378 I agree it’d be a fascinating gameplay mechanic of trying to turn Cerberus from an evil anti alien terrorist organization back to a renegade pro human vigilante para military. Plus I always felt like the writers jacked up Cerberus in ME3 so bad because they had to justify Cerberus being the bad guys after cutting out half the game. I think originally whether or not you spent the game working for the paragon alliance or renegade Cerberus was determined by a choice at the beginning or whether or not you destroyed the collector base.
That's interesting just starts on a very bleak Earth where your a new protagonist walking past other aliens as oppressed minority in Earth Slums and over hearing messages of the danger aliens oppose......You meet your Commanding officer and say "Hail Cerberus!" 😆

I don't know why I hadn't thought about Shepard's death before now but... shouldn't he have completely burned up on reentry? How was there a body to save?

Between that and 'space magic', Sheppard was able to miraculously survive free fall through 60ish miles of atmosphere and the creation of a small crater when his, extra crispy, corpse smashed into the ground at, ohh, 200 MPH or so.
They wear helmets on the surface of the crash site planet if you visit it later, so i assumed the atmosphere of the planet is not comparable to what we know of earth, maybe it is much denser so it would be a slower fall, similar to submerging into water. But in the video sequence, one sees a kind of combustion development around his body.
Miranda said the suit mostly kept everything intact. Which seems to have certain logic if you want to make armour against laser weapons which induces thermal energy.
Id say it is set so far in the future that they might as well have protective gear that keeps your body in one piece if you crash down to a planets surface
@@funinscale2892 Shephard was also already revived using very modern tech, so I'd imagine Shephard's organs and brain were heavily altered to become resistant to damage.
The only thing is that we don’t know is what became of Cerberus after the events of Mass Effect 3, the writing on the on new Mass Relay could be a huge coincidence but if it was Cerberus, it would have their emblem on it. It is definitely possible.
The poster that was released shows the possibility the Geth are returning.
Mass Effect Evolution explained how the Reapers became aware of humanity as a technologically advanced race as well as the illusive man's origions.
If Cerberus does end up being the main villain of the next ME game I could see BioWare making the death of the "alien Council" canon (this power vacuum could make humanity gain more control in the long run).

Who does not know about cerberus, any new people would first play the trilogy and after that watch videos about the next title, i don't think anyone would watch this video with no info about the original trilogy. But even still i love your work and your love for the Mass Effect World. The only thing cerberus did right was to save shepard.
I'd be okay with that. I'd love to completely irradiate that bunch. But, I'd want to bring my toon. They need an option to continue the story with the same character if you chose all the right options.
I wish Cerberus can come back but not as a main villain. The role it played in ME2 would be a good fit in the new game (common goal with hidden agenda). I'd like to see Cerberus becomes political, help rebuild the galaxy but under human terms.
Or maybe a civil war within Cerberus, alien sympathy (people like Kelly) vs. Hardline xenophobes. The former group want to make human rule like benevolent custodians and the latter want total domination.

No Cerberus in new ME would be great for me. I'm sick of them after ME3 when they were involved in almost every mission..
I think it is possible they can return. My idea is the Illusive Man in the third game's ending could be a clone and the real T.I.M might be in hiding and possibly frozen in cryo. Or that that after the Illusive Man's death, possibly Miranda and/or Jacob work together and bring Cerberus back under thier leadership and bring the organisation under a new and possitive light to try and gain a good reputation with the galaxy after thier role in the fight with the Reapers. It would be unwise to let the organisation die of seeing as it had millions of resorces, money, reasearch and various other things go to waste.
I wouldn't put it past the idea of Cerberus coming back as main villains. The Illusive Man stated on the Cerberus Base mission, "Cerberus isn't just an organization or the people behind it. Cerberus is an idea. That idea is not so easily destroyed."

Its pretty clear the geth will play a bigger role in the next game based on the recent poster. That said, would love to see the Leviathans come back as an antagonist. They made it pretty clear in the ME3 DLC that they're self-interested assholes who were totally fine with wiping out intelligent life in the galaxy until their own creations wanted to destroy them too.
Why not bring them back? Leviathans try to build Reapers 2.0 (minus that original flaw in their code), perhaps using the Geth, and similar to the Reapers they can control minds and cause people to turn on each other.
To me this has to be a prequel right before shepherd body is found and everything leading to his revival?

Seems kind of step down from Lovecraftian-esque machines that obliterate some life in the galaxy and puree others into more Lovecraftian-esque machines on a cycle.
I'd like to have Cerberus as a major player in ME4, but not as a straight up villain. I've always liked Cerberus in ME2 the most, because there they were morally grey and not straight up evil.
Regarding bringing back TIM... I'm torn. I think dead characters should stay dead, otherwise death wouldn't mean anything anymore, but his death was part of ME3's infamous ending, soo..... you know :D
IF they chose to include ME andromeda in any way, they might add in new lore say "after the war a new golden age of technology was established" due to how much more advanced reaper technology is, and that maybe they managed to reverse-engineer then.. forward-engineer mass relay tech to such an extent that they could make not only replacement relays for the damaged ones, but also relays that could propel ships thousands if not millions of light-years, or maybe propel ships without a receiver-relay, such that say they send ships one-way towards the Andromeda galaxy, build a relay that then sends a ship another distance towards the Andromeda galaxy and so forth..
Then again, from what we've seen so far with the teaser videos and such from BioWare, say with Liara (who doesn't seem at least much older than she looked in the original trilogy), it seems safe to say that it is very unlikely we will see any Mass Effect Andromeda story-lines included in this next major Mass Effect game, as ME andromeda takes place +600 years after the original ME trilogy..
I think they will have a role to play in the story. Since the relays are being rebuilt whoever has control over them is a huge deal. How this ties into the story we get we will have to see how it plays out.
I hope that Bioware shows something on N7 day. I am not asking for teaser trailer or gameplay. Just some images or concept art and general plot synopsis. Just anything.

Humanity turning to Cerberus after every race in Galaxy came to Earth to help would be a very stupid turn. But still, we had Andromeda, so it's not that impossible
Maybe cerberus might return is some way in ME4 either as friend or foe, reason i think about that is we know some members of cerberus thought what they do is right but even they may not have known about the illusive man's plans in between the events of the end of ME2 and ME3 so after the ending of the third game maybe some members wanted to do what they thought of cerberus originally by helping humanity and to the extent other species since they came to earths aid in the final battle.
And it'll be likely that the other faction of cerberus will still hold the illusive man's ideals and remain prohuman whatever reasoning they still wanna do it is likely a mystery. Though I could see cerberus having conflict of interest with each other.
My reasoning is because well example of this is how umbrella from resident evil use to be this evil organization since they experiment viruses and other weapons that could destroy a city. Years later in RE7 we found out members of the old umbrella decided to buy the name of umbrella and try to make some positive view of the cooperation; even though the organization is remembered as evil.
In summary I just think there might be a split in cerberus after the illusive man is killed, you could say he was the one to hold them in place during the events of ME1-ME3 but after his death the organization is likely split though on occasion they can agree on some things but overall their view points will be different on the other species after mass effect 3

You forgot to connect both Galaxies together because i doubt that the new cerberus in Andromeda will be an treat. I can imagine that cerberus will try to open a mass relay in Andromeda and take control over the galaxy but.... than the Jardaans arrive and we have a bigger treat to face
I don’t know if they could. They suffered an immense defeat near the end of 3, and The Illusive Man, at least my playthrough, decided to take a lead pill to cure his headache. And if 4 is pushing the idea that the canon ending choice was destruction, it’s likely that after the Alliance and the other alien species rebuilt their forces and relays, Cerberus would’ve been hunted down and finished if they hadn’t been finished already. Their own base was taken from them, after the destruction ending, it likely was left a dead wreck with no power. With the leadership dead and most soldiers being part synthetic, and therefore killed in the destruction ending, I don’t think Cerberus can come back in the first place.
Cerberus is much more than an Organization though. It’s an Ideology. Tim might be dead but there were plenty of rich and influential human supremacists funding Cerberus from the shadow who might step up to fill his place. Like the old saying goes “Cut off one head and two more shall take its place.” Hail Hy… um Cerberus, yeah Hail Cerberus!
was it ever said that the new protagonist will be a human? or is it possible that we are going to play as a different race, or maybe even be able to select our race?
I wouldn't want them to have taken control of all of humanity, but have them control former alliance colonies or something so they're still a credible threat.
There's something I call "the DBZ effect" which is basicaly vilains having to become more and more powerful so that they can still feel like a threat (Vegeta at first is said to be able to destroy a continent, then Freeza can destroy a planet and so on...). So, although I like the idea of having Cerberus as the vilains (from a political pov it even makes sense and would be interesting to see), after saving the whole fucking galaxy from the Reapers, I just think it would feel underwhelming. And that makes me think the next villain will probably be the hand behind the Reapers, something even more powerful and menacing. To me, personaly, it will feel forced and that's why I think they shouldn't even make a ME4, but since they are already going there anyway, this Cerberus take would be as good as any.
pretty sure shepherd is going to wake up in the london rubble and finish the fight against the reapers. Or we are going to continue the fight with someone else and fight indoctrinated shepherd while trying to fight the reapers.
Cerberus could play into a shattered galaxy. The only problem with Cerberus post Repaper War is that being affiliated with them would be like being an open Nazi in 1946.
While I believe a pro human terrorist group would be a villain in the game (taking control of or making their own mass relays), I'm not sure it would be Cerberus due to how many of their own splinter groups left the organization throughout the games. But they may have been part of Cerberus at one point
I can see why...think about about how dangerous they in the series even to other humans hate them more than the alien races. But we both know it wasn't the kindest of his heart just to stop the collectors, even willing to you aliens as tools to achieve their own goals.
It will be nice if they can bring back all old stuff back, inclduing Cerberus, that we have right before Reapers invasion part. So we can make a full circle - same hero,same team,same ship😂

they could definitely restore his consciousness and possibly import it into a newly constructed reaper. cerberus could attempt to mimic the reapers and have the illusive man return in a an expanded harbinger role. it's a way to bring back the reapers but not really bring back the reapers. build a new trilogy where you try to stop them from completing the task of creating a new control cycle of cerberus controlled reapers.
Yeah, they had to have done something with the illusive man when they implanted reaper tech in him, maybe a backup of the illusive man incase the surgery went wrong or something.

(Also Cerberus didn’t save Sheppard they purposely had him offed so he could be useful to them. How else would they have known to be there to save his body? They explain this when you raid TIM’s base at the end of ME3.)

Kinda lame that the entire galaxy came together just to fight for whats left after. What if we could still introduce the darkmatter theory. Lets say that the reapers headed to dark space and there they encountered allies that held dominion over another galaxy (Andromeda perhaps) and now with the reapers gone the milky ways dark energy has run wild especially after the crucible activated. This would help explain why Andromeda feels so primitive compared, their overlords never shared their technology. The story becomes amdromeda needing the help of the milky way galaxy to defeat thos new threat

I would be okay with seperate cells of Cerberus working behind the scenes to seed conflicts, but they really shouldn't be the main villains...
As far as i'm concerned, i would love to see a new alien and humanoid faction be the villain, especially if they were already set up in ME3. Leviathan would likely try to regain it's original place in the galaxy, while Aria would be in control of every major merc band in the galaxy after the war, so i think they would be obvious candidates for the antagonist roles.
My own idea for an inciting incident for a new protagonist, is with them as a former special forces officer who works on a freighter now, and gets into contact with a new prototype tech developed by Leviathan to create super soldiers for it's army, with the freighter being attacked by Arias new merc band made up of the remains of the original three, after she learned of the tech and wants it for her own bid to take over the galaxy, trying to make it an "Omega for everyone!".
So we would have a big new intimidating enemy to fight in Leviathan and it's thrall forces, while also having a close to home enemy in Aria, who a freight worker with special forces training would likely have known about and had dealings with in the past, or possible even have been betrayed by on a job, giving them a personal AND professional reason to stop her from taking over the galaxy.
If you are going to make a new trilogy, which is very likely at this point, i would want the conflicts, enemies and allies to be new, with returning enemies and allies being mostly relegated to sidequests or the occasional cameo... So just like the Cerberus cell in Andromeda doing work on Kadara, Cerberus should at best be the force behind a conflict in a sidequest, like a "who did it?" murder mystery that ignited a war between two settlements on a planet, where you had to figure out that despite what it first looked like, it wasn't either side who murdered the person, but actually a Cerberus insider who you then have to capture and prove was the guilty party!

Well...he does tell Shepard that Cerberus is an ideal and that they have accomplished everything and more on the station...I've been a big proponent of a strong tie in to the original games but..if they keep too much of the original and it's themes and organizations might be just a rehash of what we've seen...seems to be a slippery slope...

I don't think Cerberus will be the bad guys, we had Cerberus be bad for literally all of Mass Effect. After their leadership has been killed, I'm pretty sure what's left of Cerberus will be allies. Making them the bad guys once again just feels... Redundant.

Counsel members trying to smuggle money out of the citadel toward the end of ME3 basically sums all the races, factions and characters who all had in common: Saving the galaxy is secondary to arguing with Shepard. The EXCEPTION was Cerberus, who's mission was is and will always be "protect humanity, no matter the cost". Cerberus was the only faction who had a mission statement and never once deviated from it. They are the only faction who ever saw Shepard as an ally. Whether you love Cerberus or hate Cerberus. Cerberus loved and supported Shepard. Did Shepard (Did you) ever WANT to betray Cerberus? Did you even see them as "bad"? Or did the game force that story forward regardless of how you viewed them in ME2? And to think that a human player given the option to side with humanity is "too racist" a concept for a videogame may say something about just how much "indoctrination" is taking place... somewhere... in an "alternate universe"

I think cerberus should be treated more as an anti-heroic group rather than the cartoon villians they became in me3. I mean you have cerberus characters with such potential like petrovsky who was an honorable character. I also like the fact that a faction for humanity and I think this is very realistic as humans have a tendency towards tribalism but I'd rather see cerberus as a band of brothers type organization rather than disposable pawn soldiers. I mean sometimes it feels like the merc groups have more of a sense of internal loyalty then cerberus which is supposed to be like a human nationalist group. You'd think they'd have more of a sense of comradery
