I will try to make it simple as much as possible. "Political parties" are voluntary association of persons. After joining the party the person represents the political party and it's views and if wins the election then represents the party from where he has won in the parliament/legislature. The Tenth schedule prevents the elected person in the parliament/legislature of a party from dis-balancing the stability of the parliament/legislature by the method of conspiracy or something like resigning from the party. Therefore, the voluntary thing comes when the person is "joining" a party and Tenth schedule comes when the person is "elected" as a member of legislation/parliament.
