Not sure how to feel about the rumoured Finals format (I'm not a big fan of the NASCAR Playoffs). The main positive I can see is that it seems to be done in the way NASCAR did it when they first introduced the Chase for the Cup, i.e. it's the top 10 drivers in the championship, regardless of how many wins they have. The main negative is the use of eliminations.
As for the race formats, I guess SMP, Townsville, Surfers and Adelaide will be 2x250km as usual, obviously The Bend and Bathurst will be single races and Albert Park will probably have four as usual. I guess Taupō might be two races still, but it could be three, but the rest of the sprints (presumably Symmons Plains, Perth, Darwin, Ipswich and Sandown), I have no idea if they're going to be two or three races.
Looking through the archives, I have noticed that Supercars goes through race format changes a lot, often going back to previous ones. From the ATCC rounds being a single race in the 80s and early 90s, to the ten-round, 30 race seasons of the mid-late 90's and early-'00s, to the addition of two race events and putting the enduros as part of the championship, to the two races on a Saturday, one longer race on the Sunday, etc., etc. 3-races, 4-races, there's consistency but at the same time there isn't. The strangest one in my opinion was the use of a 'half-time' during the opening races of a weekend in 2013. To be honest, I think I prefer a calendar like we've had over the last few years prior to 2024, with a mix of sprint, 2x250km and enduro events.
The Bend's back, which is nice, another round in SA and it finally gets a go at being an enduro, which'll be interesting. Ipswich is back, which is nice. I don't mind the track, even if it's a bit meh. Another round or two would be really good though. I hope we don't lose Perth, it's one of my favourite Aussie circuits, but I am curious about the street race.
I'm holding my breath on the playoff thing and will probably try and do some videos about it if/when its properly announced and we know the setup.
Yeah the formats seem to chop and change a lot. The half time thing was a pretty bad idea, but there was a simple way to improve that one, just have it as two separate races with a quick turnaround between, which I'm hoping next years Saturdays at the sprint rounds is like.

Agree they need to shake up the championship but not sure a NASCAR format would work, there’s not enough cars or rounds to justify it.
The calendar GRRR! GET RID OF THE GP and bring back Winton!
All the other races you have 3-4 days of SC, the GP has 1 main day, and it’s a big price difference to go 4 days to GP v any other race.
Also no pit access at GP (this year,,) they need to sort that out!

I understand why they want to be at the GP, but as a fan, I would prefer a proper round at Winton instead. I'm pretty sure the "pits" are being moved to where the trucks were this year so fans will be able to get up close to the teams again next year.
I rearranged the models on someones suggestion..... They might not be a huge fan of the newest one I picked up the other day. It does look super cool though

I agree Dave. Will Brown is a seat of the pants flyer. He is a real freak top gun. Brock is an extreme talent well coached. The driver that can do magic is will. The driver that be precise constant and fast is Brock. If comes to long laps between those two and everything is equal, Will, Will bring home the bacon

Dave great video, why didnt supercars stay with the gen 2 motors? they were proven to be reliable
Because of the cost. They were very expensive to build and then re-build, where the Gen3 motors are a fraction of the cost and last longer between re-builds

BJR run-down mentioned new camshafts were causing the issue in Ford and creating crank failure... In Chev bearings still being monitored for wear...

Flat plan crank would be sweet , interesting to dramatically change the spec at Bathurst, I guess it had to be done, weren’t making 600k’s in the old batch
From what I heard its not actually that much of a change, they are supposed to be very similar

Great vid as usual. Agree with you regards the 120kph decision. Full course yellow means there's a safety issue on the track - and 120kph is just not safe for all concerned.
The 2025 calendar is an improvement from this year...but there's still not enough rounds. Having rounds in some cases a month apart is not giving us loyal fans what we deserve. Should be two rounds per months or thereabouts at least. And Sandown should stay ahead of Bathurst. Just on another note - what's with TCM not running at Bathurst this year? Very poor decision.
I'd like to see a couple more rounds added and tighten up the front of the calendar. I mean I don't want the AGP as the first round, but maybe do the opener just before the AGP and then have say a 4 week gap going into the enduros. I do like the flow they have got after Bathurst next year though
And I think TCM went off with the speed series, which was a bad decision on their behalf seeing as its all falling apart now...
@@SupercarsTorque yeah having the Supercars opening round wedged in with F1 is a slight on the significance of our category.
@@BadApe351 Yeah thats why I'd only want to see the AGP as the second round, so it means you have to start the season earlier than that
Love the Finals idea especially after the endurance races so no one is losing a championship from a different or a xo driver mistake! Hoping the endurance races isn't for championship points at all.
Endurance races will still be for points and you could still see someone drop out of the top10 after Bathurst because of a co-driver blunder

is the Engine the only item different in the GEN 3 Supercar ? if so, why not have ONE Engine for ALL the makes especially now with Toyota joining the mix... Equality and Parity..
Apparently Ford said they have to run a Ford engine and they wouldn't let Supercars put the Ford engine in the Chev, so we have what we have now
@@SupercarsTorque - as it is the only item "different" maybe they should set a capacity limit of 5.0 / 5.5 / 6.0 Litre's, with controlled Injectors Size, Ignition System, Spark Plugs including heat range, Oil used, and Throttle Body Size, Muffler/s, and let them go..
@@gregjenkins2925 The whole idea of Gen3 was to spend less money though, and these days everyone has to have a chance at winning....
@@SupercarsTorque - it was a good "ideology" but it does not seem to have changed anything really.. take the crank of the chev as an example, previous billet crank $9K lasts 60,000 klms avg, current Crank $4K lasts maybe 8,000 klms, but it has not to date. the Billet crank at $9K is "WAY" better value....
@@gregjenkins2925 In the long run, it should work out, its still very early days and this was a batch issue problem more than a design issue.

Bathurst speed probably dictated 120 km/h as they will be doing 290-300 km/h into Chase and have 15 sec to drop to the limit if slower speed needed they will call out Safety car...
There is no point for the VSC then?
@@SupercarsTorque I think they will probably reduce it on slower curcuits were speed variance is not so high have some blind corners on Bathurst to allow drivers less closing speed probably helps on mountain too...
@@gerardcrabb4556 They all should be doing the same speed though, so wouldn't it be safer to make the speed slower, especially if you have blind corners and can't see if there is an incident around it? Its just a dumb rule brought in for dumb reasons. They need to fix the actual problem
@@SupercarsTorque They can have double yellows where incident is while under VSC see how they work it out in driver briefings...

Really hope the Finals is just a story made up on speedcafe honestly. Its the worst idea in supercars/atcc history. Not a fan of the idea. If Nascar didnt have play offs I would take it more seriously.
Speedcafe wasn't the first place I heard it unfortunately so I'd say its got legs

300 points for the weekend is to many amd very hard to follow

I think that is a better idea too, make them more worthwhile, but then it gets hard explaining the separation of all the guys on 0 points at the end of the year
A finals series for 2025?. Australia needs a better main touring car series, this just keeps going backwards.
I would say its been going forwards the last couple of years. My hope is that if this does go ahead and it doesn't work, we don't stick with it because people won't admit it didn't work
@@SupercarsTorque I was fortunate to have seen motor racing in the 70's. Then when i was old enough, going with my mates to Sandown when taking beer was still allowed. ( late 80's/90's) Sitting up on the hill with a BBQ, eskies and lounge chairs.
I know the times have changed, but even still, to me this category has no character. Maybe i just cant relate to the cars?

Why on earth will Supercars try to look like a Nascar "thing"? Are the Supercars drivers gonna be expected to start behaving like lil whinging crybabies, no integrity in the game or as a person? By all means improve the supercars but to subtly try to make it look like a little Nascar/Supercar it sucks big time, is something wrong with being yourself Supercars, being uniquely Aussie? 😠
I totally agree. Our touring car heritage is far far removed from NASCAR. It does seem, however, that there's a certain cohort within Supercars and even pundits and fans that see NASCAR as the model for providing a "show" and as a consequence the perfect model for tin top style racing. I couldn't disagree more, but heh, sadly, I might be in the minority.
I see Supercars as a motor sports category, not just a "show".

Do you know how many nascar fans watch Supercars because it's Supercars not nascars. This is Aussie only just like Blu Tongue Lizard. Being Aussie by design is part of it's appeal to us and the offshore audience
the Nascar style system is horse shit and the drivers of that series hate it so why would we go down the same path?

Queensland raceway is deadly boring to watch,great for napping while trying to watch a race
The 500's weren't great, but the sprint racing there was usually good
