I agree completely, though Du Lei did bad things you can sympathise and understand why he reverts to his evil upbringing. He is flawed and it's understandable when you realise that's how he is raised and forced to be by his own family: that anything action regardless of ethics was worth taking if it means success and anything short of that meant you are weak and a failure. Yuan Shuai on the other hand has no justification for being jealous, possessive and controlling long before they were even in a relationship and incessantly bullying her despite knowing what happens when she cries. Yuan Shuai just comes across as a jerk, I don't know how she kept from crying with his constant bullying. Conversely, we see the impact and influence Du Lei's poisonous family has on him, why he broke free of them but ultimately reverted back to their evil way of doing whatever it takes to get what you want, when he realised he would lose her forever. Gao Hanuy's acting is beyond amazing, he conveyed his character as villainous yet charming, sympathetic and relatable. Gao Hanyu had me like, Luo Yunxi who? lol
I also love his character too not as Mr. Du but as Gao himself... He's acting is so good A very promising actor. That's why I'm rooting for him in other drama hope him and Bai lu have a drama nextime coz I also see their chemistry together. He's not just a good actor but also handsome and talented like all of them are talented. These cast member are the most amazing cast in intire c drama.

In doing so he also gave up the priveledges of his family's reputation, their connections and wealth: leaving with nothing and having to start over as a common teacher. Still, he helped and loved her selflessly and silently for two years despite her being in love with someone else (something not many people have the heart to do). I can understand why after choosing her over his affluent family and years of supporting, mentoring and loving her he snapped when he realised he would lose her completely even as a friend, he reverted to his upbringing of doing whatever it takes to get what you want. It was despicable but understandable. Du Lei is a complex character, everyone cannot feel the same about him. One thing everyone can agree on is that he was masterfully portrayed by Gao Hanyu.
