I can’t help but feel bad for Anders after all the criticism he got after last season. I don’t blame people for being mad at him, trust me, I was too after the miss against the 49ers, but you have to know he’s trying his best and probably feels terrible for all the misses. Really hope the kid gets another chance

Even Mason Crosby had a bad season several years into his career and then came back to be a leading scorer. Anders' brother Daniel struggled with the Vikings than became reliable with the Raiders. It is asinine to think after one bad season that he can't be a solid kicker. All this competition is good for him.
As good as we did in the draft, the one move, I did expect us to make was to actually get a good kicker out of college. There was no reason for us not to with as many pics as we had.

The team announced the release of Jack Podlesney on Wednesday, trimming the competition to incumbent Anders Carlson vs the veteran Greg Joseph with training camp about a month away. Jack Podlesney, an undrafted free agent out of Georgia, signed a futures deal with the Packers in January. He previously spent time with our division rival the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers provided opportunities for all 3 kickers during the offseason workout program, which concluded last week. While the Green Bay Packers considered the possibility of taking 3 kickers to training camp, reducing the competition to just 2 probably made more sense from a roster-building and practical standpoint. Providing kicking opportunities for more than 2 kickers would have been difficult for our special teams coordinator Rich Bissccia. Anders Carlson ended the offseason workout program on a high note, according to our headcoach Matt Lafluer, and Greg Joseph has an experience edge after spending the last 3 years as the kicker for our rival the Vikings. Our General Manager Brian Gutekunst now has 2 open roster spots. It’s possible the Packers could still add competition at kicker this summer. The Packers return to training camp on July 17th, with the 1st practice scheduled for July 22nd. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛
Seems The Pack have 2 underachieving kickers, not good, I remember the very old times. Jerry Kramer and Paul Hornung played and kicked. Maybe there is a player who can kick on the roster already.
Those rooks aren't usually good kickers. Don't forget it's just a game. That said, Carlson was spectacular on rook standards. If the Pack were a young struggling team, Carlson would be shining bright. There isn't that contrast to distinguish him. The Pack have bigger expectations, so being just a good rookie kicker isn't good enough. He made a lot of good kicks and he has a strong leg. Year 2 his mental game should improve and he'll get his kicks under pressure.
They are simply brininging in competition to to see if Carlson will fold or rise to the occasion. It's no secret the team surrounds these kickers and lobs water on them while they're kicking. Its all intentional to create pressure!
With all the emphasis on the defense and O-line, I can't help but recall all the times the kicker/special teams made the difference between being a winner and being almost a winner. How many clutch kicks did Adam Vinatari make over his career...how about the Colt's straight on kick of Jim O'Brien to steal the super bowl from the Cowboys. How many games did Mason Crosby win for the Pack? Kickers and punters make a big difference in game momentem...GB should put more care in their kicker selection.
Now we have 2 of the worst kickers in the league as No longer 3 😂. Carlson will cost us multiple games, and Joseph had so much practice with the Vikings but can’t make kicks when it counts. Should have cleared the kicking room and got a new unproven over 2 projects!
Podlesney is the truth. He definitely would have been the best kicker on the roster. Kid was clutch in college. Very accurate and can boot it from deep. I can see special teams is already going to be an issue (again) this season.

I'm still confused as to why we haven't looked at that kicker from the USFL , dude was consistently making 60 yards kicks with a lot of room to spare.
