    I see these come up on public surplus auctions all the time. Love your treatment of this one.
    When I needed a chip pan for a metal lathe I wanted to have a custom one bent and welded out of stainless steel, but it was far beyond my budget. Instead I bought a large stainless serving table out of a school cafeteria from a public surplus auction. I removed the base and flipped it upside down and chiseled off the ancient chewing gum and bolted it between the lathe and the base I welded up out of square tubing. $50 instead of well over $1000!

      Hey my friend you're absolutely right you can find them at all kind of used equipment auction. And it sounds like you made great use of one. You could have kept the old chewing gum and casted in resin. LOL great repurposing idea buddy and thank you thank you from Doug

    Oh this is right up my alley. I've been doing stainless steel topped tables since I was around 27 - I even put warming elements in them. A ~78 degree working metal surface is sooo good to work on. The inspiration for this came from a big energy machine shop where they were doing insanely large parts for energy sector - people who did the layouts on giant cast steel parts had gigantic precision ground iron surface plates and they were heated from the bottom. Why? Because even in summer you couldn't rest your hands against the surface plate for very long and they were at the surface plate the whole day - the warpage of the surface plate due to heat was insignificant in a sense because you don't dabble in thousands of an inch when you're doing outlay for giant castings that have a lot of extra meat on them for machining.

      I'm so glad to hear that you like it and thank you thank you my friend so very much. I have stainless steel work counters in my general purpose section of the shop. I didn't show him on this video but you can see them on my shop tour video. I've never thought of heating them though. When you live in Houston you don't worry about heating anything you've got heat all the time. 😃 But I can understand. and thank you thank you so much for all the input and information I appreciate that very very much. It's an easy quick way to build a stainless steel top cabinet. And it works great for me. Thank you my friend thank you so much I appreciate you reaching out. And I hope you enjoy all the videos. Take care and stay safe and again thank you so much from Doug

    Hey Doug I know this is an older video now, but just thought I'd share something with you, being that you're always sharing with us. Those little nuts are called Acorn Nuts or Cap Nuts. Some people called them Domed Nuts or Crown Nuts. Barrel nuts are something different.
    Also, if you have never tried PL3X Premium you should give it a try. Its a polyurethane based construction adhesive. Once I've learned about it, I've never gone back to Liquid Nails. That's all I use when installing my treads, risers and newel post. I think its way better. There's also a PL8X that is WAY stronger yet, but is much more expensive. It's actually overkill if you ask me. Anyways, construction adhesives have some a long way and they definitely have their place. Hope this helps you or others.

    I’ve begun the process of building a portion of my 12x24 garage into a usable workspace. Being wheelchair bound, space in general is vital but limited and in an already small shed, I’ve had to change a lot of things along the way, make a lot of sacrifice, and alter my goals. I was going to build 12’x5’ exotic live edge tables (sarcasm) but as it turns out, I’ll be the best luxury bird house man on the east coast. (Also sarcasm)

    We always put cross members under the top and shelf. Like a lower case T. The leg channel should also be flat to flat...meaning the turn back should face down towards the ground not a hollow channel between the top and legs. Strange build...not even sure if it's NFS.
    But that doesn't matter in a woodshop. 😁

    And that's a big thumbs up from me!! Thank you so much for the video. I saw your large parts area with SS benches and I thought, I want wooden benches. However now I see how you made an individual table, I get it. As you explained at the end, it would be handy for some metal work, wet areas and areas where you want an easy clean surface. Loved the grommets, by the way.

      Bob good to hear from you buddy. I hope it works out well I've never turned metal before. But I want to do some small brass turnings that's why I'm trying to get set up. Watch some videos and see what I can do. I've been told it works well. The other proxton tools that I have are phenomenal I have no complaints with them at all. I'll be putting some info out on it my friend and thank you thank you so much. Have a blessed holiday a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New year buddy from Doug

      Ken good to hear from you thank you my friend thank you very much it works very well for me. I've just recently set up the mini Mill and I've been doing a little practicing on it and so far I've been very happy with it. I've had several of those small croxton tools for years and have always been happy with them. So so far so good but it is fairly new to me. As soon as I get it all figured out I'll be doing the video on it. And thank you buddy thank you so much for asking. From Doug

    Well done! Love the padua accents and the detail. Your metal lathe work top is outstanding. Why the LED lights on the power strip? What purpose do they serve? With a wheeled bench are they needed? Looking forward for your shop update, can't believe it has been 1-1/2 years. Still enjoy that one.

      Yeah my friend I know time flies by huh. It was the only power strip that I had handy at the moment. I plan on veneering the outside of it with oak I just haven't got to it yet so I use that one temporarily it was a spare when I had from the inside of an old toolbox lid. and I'll get that other one out soon I promise thank you buddy thank you from Doug

    On the wood species list (link on last year's shop tour), what is the difference between # 2, African Mahogany, and # 70, Mahogany African? What is the difference between # 24 and # 25, which are both Bolivian Rosewood?

    Can this table give an electric shock?

    • @fleetswoodshop3339
      @fleetswoodshop3339  2 роки тому +2

      Hello Victor how are you my friend. You could shock yourself on any metal surface if you got electrical conducted to the table. But using electrical equipment on top of the table will not shock you no. most all welding tables and part tables are made of steel on the top. So no it wouldn't shock you all by itself like I say if you stuck on electricity to it it would any metal wood shock you that way. But I'll buy itself no it's a great safe table top. And thank you so much for asking thank you. From Doug
