who are you fav consistent Director & DP colabs?
Deakins and Cohen brothers #1!
Sven Nykvist and Ingmar Bergman
Orson Welles and Greg Tholand
Hoyte & Nolan
El Chivo Lubezki y Terrence Malick
Wong Karwai and Christopher Doyle is another amazing duo
Just saw this remark after posting the same thing. 100%!
Spike Lee and Ernest Dickerson is an S tier combo with films like Malcolm X, Mo’ Better Blues, and Do The Right Thing
One of the best!
Terrence Malick with Emmanuel Lubezki
They need to do more! But I love their colabs
Yes! The Tree of Life has some of the most beautiful images in cinema. I’d go so far as to say Chivo’s work saves Malick’s non-script to make it the film it is.
@@the_black_douglas9041 indeed
Peter Jackson & Andrew Lesnie is another legendary combo
Yes, poor Andrew passed in 2015. Too young 😢
I was about to write that! Geniuses!!!
The Cohen brothers and Deakins are like peanut butter and chocolate
Don’t you mean peanut butter and jelly?
Spike and Dickerson.
Woody Allen and Gordon Willis | Ingmar Bergman and Sven Nykvist
Great list, Freddy Young and David Lean are also a fantastic duo- with 3 Oscar wins together
Jarmusch and Müller have to be up there
Nolan and Pfister was the most elite combination for me. As much as I like Hoytema, the way Pfister lit a scene was nothing short of magical. 2nd for me is Spielberg and Kaminski and 3rd is PTA and Elswit.
So true!
Nice video Mark. What about Bertolucci & Storaro? ;)
Yes leaving those out as opposed to that crappy documentary stuff he was showing… Bertolucci and Storaro is as good as it gets.
We can easily pick David Fincher & Jeff Cronenweth. Fincher worked with various talented DP as Darius Kondji and Harry Savides, but I always thought that he rafine his style at best with Jeff Cronenweth.
Wong Kar Wai and Chris Doyle!
Dean Cundey, ASC & John Carpenter “Halloween; The Thing; Escape from New York and many other classics and cult movies.
And Dean Cundey and Robert Zemeckis! Back to the Future Trilogy; Who Framed Roger Rabbit; Death Becomes Her
**Cannot believe Dean Cundey and either of these two filmmaking legends made the list**
Spike Lee and Ernest Dickerson didn’t make the list??? 🧐🧐🧐
Robert Richardson be crabbing in Alaska in between films😂😂😂
Hideo Yamamoto(cinematographer)
Takashi Miike (director)
I mean how you didn’t mention Wes Anderson and Robert Yeoman !! 😂. Also there’s PTA and Robert Elswit
awesome video mark
Best colab - Mark Bone and Zach Ramelan 😁
These videos are very helpful.
Great list! My favorite at the moment is Robert Eggers and Jarin Blaschke. The work they did on The Lighthouse was stunning! Using super rare and old vintage lenses from the 1930s and russian soviet space lenses.
Goo topic. Tarantino & Richardson, Arfonso & Lubzki are the best
Bryan Singer & Newton Thomas Sigel. Sigel worked under Robert Richardson a lot (second unit DP). I loved his work in Drive (2011).
Very cool. Lot's of fun here.
Sam Mendes - Roger Deakins
Christopher Nolan -Hoyte van hoytema
Ingmar Bergman - sven nykvist
Chivo- with almost anybody
Janusz Kaminski - Spielberg
Ingmar Bergman and Sven Nykvist, greetings from Sweden.
Denis Villeneuve & Roger Deakins
Wong Kar-Wai and Christopher Doyle needs to be on this list.
When you pull together some favorites, we get a hand picked lesson in spotting superb shots.......and then the ideas flow. tHanks for the video
You should do directors and editors… love the video!
yes!!! so many good colabs
Great idea. But he blew the collaboration with cinematographers just enough that he probably doesn’t get the editing side.
i never clicked quicker to a video
James Cameron and Russell Carpenter 🎬🎥
Stanley Kubrick and John Alcott
To this list I would add Michael Mann and Dante Spinotti, and David Fincher and Jeff Cronenweth.
🔥🔥🔥
Well, I'm in the PNW, and I need collaborators.
Nice shirt…
Andrea Arnolds and Robbie Ryan
Am I the only one who liked the cinematography of Pulp Fiction and Jacky Brown much more than the films which came after?
Wong Kar-wai and Christopher Doyle should be on this.
Who are you wearing? I LOVE that jacket!
Roger Deakins and Denis Villeneuve are a better combo in my opinion. His best work is with Denis and his Oscar winning work was with him also. Denis challenged him more with Blade runner 2049 where he’s just unhinged. It’s a miracle we got to see him work on that big of a scale instead of only working on more reserved lit dad movies like he makes with the cohens. I love Fargo and movies like that but roger needed to be tested more by a director like denis. And it paid off for him and his fans big time
Villeneuve and Deakins, although they only did 3 movies together
They are a weapon when they work together
Black Friday sale starts on Nov 24 at 12 PM ET
Walter Lassally with Merchant-Ivory.
Weird that you left off Nolan and Hoyte. Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet (story aside it was visually appealing) and Oppenheimer is a good list of collaborations.
Welles and Toland 😩😩😩😩
Conrad Hall
Nolan and Hoytema
provocative... now we're thinking...
Nolan uses Hoyte because Pfister wanted to move to directing. I wish he was still shooting! Moneyball looked soooooooo good.
Hoyte does an amazing job though. The evacuation scenes in Dunkirk…
Totally agree. Hoyte is one of the best@@the_black_douglas9041
Reiner Werner Fassbinder & Michael Ballhaus
ingmar bergman and Sven Nykvist - 16 films
Fincher & Cronenweth, Chazelle & Sandgren
John Carpenter & Dean Cundey
I'm sorry... but what about Coppola/Storaro?? 😁
Hey I'm in this video! Not as a collaborator, but who knows, perhaps my best collaborator will be you Mark 😀 No... you are unfortunately to far away haha
Wong Kar Wai and Christopher Doyle
ChatGPT & Generative Fill
Satyajit Ray and Subrata Mitra
Ingmar Bergman and Sven Nykvist
I can't find the Sale ? Is there a Black Friday discount or has it just opened doors to join for 8 days?
The sale will begin on Nov 24th. The products will automatically be discounted!
@@markbone thanks man, i just have to join waiting list ?
Kar Wai & Doyle
Ingmar Bergman and sven nykvist
Dariusz Wolski has made 9 movies with Ridley Scott, but is not included
Spike and Dickerson you coward!!!
No Kubrick & Alcott… damn😅
for real.
I thought about it. And had them in my list but with only three films technically at full collaboration it felt like I should mention others who shot way more together. That said they did make some magic
@@markbone
C’mon
Alcott played a key role in the camera department on 2001.
A clockwork orange, Barry Lyndon, and The Shining…those 3 films alone are worth 100 films today.
Polanski and Alonzo
That black spot on your pinky is hideous! better watch out, next time I'm coming for your glasses. (Kidding, but, you asked for it, haha!) I don't really know too much about collaborators but I really enjoy Christopher Nolan movies. Interstellar is one of my favourite movies ever!
thank my aputure light for that
Oof, I already feel the pain!
For a minute there you fooled me and I thought you knew what you were talking about… You left off Bertolucci and Storaro? I guess you haven’t seen 1900, the conformist, or Last tango in Paris. Much better than that crappy documentary that you showed.
For a minute you fooled me and I thought you heard the point of this video - "collaborating gets you farther in your career" and "I don't have time to list every great team"
Calling them "female filmmakers" detracts and lessens the "filmmaker" part - they are ALL filmmakers irrespective of gender.
Why are you getting hung up on things like this? It's not important
What do they say about your face?
My girlfriend says that she has seen uglier people on UA-cam, that she doesn't know why they say mean things to you
Am I the only one who thinks Spielberg & Kaminski is very much hit and miss? For example indy 4 is a terrible looking movie
