Thanks Rus, I love these style videos and I've said before these are what got me hooked on your channel and youtube cooking videos in general. Wonderful homemade comfort food, keep these coming!
Your welcome and glad to hear you like these type of videos!
wow that looked amazing! I’m not a huge fancy hotdog guy but that’s something I could get into. Great job Rus
Thanks Justin, I appreciate you watching
Yeah!
Good man! Proper New England roll!
I am not from or been to Rhode Island but Russ I am going to say you probably nailed it. For a steamer with a cover you can do what you did and use a baking pan for the cover. I use a WOK with a pizza pan with holes and use a dome cover from an electric WOK. Works pretty good for a steamer using what is available in your kitchen.
Thanks, it was really good. I actually have a real steamer but wanted to show how easy you can steam a bun without a steamer. Covered definitely works better, but this got the job done. Thanks for watching!
That’s a definite must try on my list. Thanks for sharing that amazing recipe
Your welcome Steven
Looks great! People here in RI get a coffee milk with them and take it personally if you don’t order them all the way. You will get hate if you put ketchup on them 😂 Fun fact is that NY System also sells grilled cheeses but when you order you ask for a mousetrap
Thanks, and thanks for the info. I did read somewhere about the coffee milk thing.
Yum...The chilli looks outstanding im gonna have to try your recipe...⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hi Rus. I just finished making this recipe. It reminds me a lot of a greek recipe I make using steak tips and onions. I added some red cooking wine (what I had on hand). The wine makes the spices stand out. Thanks Rus. Love your recipes
Awesome, thanks for the feedback
Rus, that looks delicious !! That will be another must try.
Thanks Gary! I just discovered minutes ago that I can order the original seasoning from Amazon. I’m trying it just to taste how close I got
Great video and Dogs Rus, That close up at 0:12 had grabbing the screen lol. 😎👍
Thanks Jack! Sometimes a good hot dog is all it takes. Cheers!
That sauce sounds great Rus! I've never heard of these. Regional Hot Dog recipes and sauces are so interesting and delicious! You took a chance and got a great response. Yep....next day the sauce is probably even better for sure! Cheers Bud and a great video as always!!
Hey Rob, yeah I love trying different dogs. To easy not to at least try them. Cheers buddy!
Heck ya Rus!!!! Interesting recipe on the chili! I am a huge fan when it comes to the Boar's Head hotdog!!!! It is slowly becoming my favorite beef frank!!
Yeah it's quite a bit different than regular hot dog chili, but it really has a great flavor, especially with the mustard and onion. We are liking those Boar Head dogs as well. Perfect snap and good flavor. I still like Vienna wieners from Chicago the best. Thanks for watching Jeff!
very interesting recipe!
Thanks for watching!
My fellow Mississippian got it going on with these dawgs
Looks great Mr Rus
Thanks, always great hearing from another Mississippian!
I will definitely try this recipe. Your recipes are always spot on. Did you ever add dill to it? I'm curious to add it. Greek food has that and mint in it.
No dill, only what you seen in the video. Thanks for watching!
Looks fantastic Rus looks amazing
Thank you Sheena and thanks for stopping by and watching!
Lived in RI 60yrs....Ate "gaggers" for 50+. NY Systems and Rods Grill in Warren RI. Right away.... keep the onions RAW (chopped finely)+ separate ( add on top last). Need a bun steamer. Need the weiners from Little Rhody meats co. Come in 50 or 100 ct. Boxes. They used to ship all over USA i think. And get the seasoning for the meat sauce there as well. The Meat Sauce is KEY!!! Perfect your recipe...treat your family and friends.... you'll be a Hero to many!!! RI traditional drink ...Coffee milk!!! Autocrat makes the best coffee syrup. You just stir it in your milk. Light or dark (-sweeter) Wieners are AWESOME!!! Maybe not every day .,.. but surely a ❤ treat!!!
A friend gave me a link to the Olneyville N.Y. System Hot Wiener sauce spice mix after he watched this video. It just came in today, so now I can see just how close this copycat recipe comes to it. I'll have to try the Autocrat coffee syrup with milk out too. Sounds great!
I’ve been wanting to do this recipe. Looks amazing and I’m betting it tastes even better!
Hope you enjoy, thanks for watching!
You always have great videos wish I could get all the equipment you have to do the stuff you do!
Absolutely love it Rus !Looks like a good dog to me ! I’ll take a dozen for delivery please!
Thanks for checking it out Kent!
Fred Meyers carry boars head hot dogs where I live. They are good but if you live near NE. Portland then gartenrs meat market is the best for sausage and weiners I get the cheese and onion weiners and cook in the oven at 200 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes so they don't explode all the cheese out of it. They are good just plain but they have all kinds of weiners.
I have been going there for 60 + years so they are doing something right .if you are ever in Portland Oregon try Roaks Coney Island foot long hot dogs the best I have ever tasted. Milwaukee, Oregon and North Portland on Columbia Blvd .
Thanks for the info
Those look delicious, Rus! I've made Craig's version from Behind The Garage BBQ, so I know how good those taste! 😋😋😋
Thanks Kevin! I'll have to check his video out.
Hey, great and easy, man. best greetings from germany!!!
Awesome, thank you!
How come this whole video I was hearing 🎵suckin on a chili dog 🎵😂.. I'll take mine no onions... great video Rus!..
😂🤣 I was singing it in my head haha!
Looks awesome Rus 😋
Thanks Rob, I appreciate you watching!
Your right, those Boars Head dogs are killer! DEf amongst my top three. My other two faves are Martin Rossol out of New Britain Ct and Most Definitely Koegels Viennas out of Michigan!
I really like the dogs from Vienna out of Chicago too. Thanks for watching!
If you ever come up to RI make sure to order the dogs "all the way" (it's the toppings in the video) with a glass of coffee milk to wash it down. I might grab a couple tomorrow after watching this 😄
Will do, thanks for watching!
This looks very good Rus . THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA.....
Thank you Frank, I appreciate it!
I commented as Ballistic BBQ, and my comment isn't showing. Anyway, great video Rus! You rocked that video, brother!
Hmmm, that's strange. Thanks Greg, I appreciate it!
Awesome viceo, brother! Those dogs looked OUTSTANDING! I’d love to just try that chili! Boom 💥 😊
Thanks Mike! I appreciate it brother!
Looks really good Rus. For some reason they call them "NY System" hot dogs. I have been to RI but never tried any of the dogs.
Yeah it was a place call Original New York System. I didn't want to get to much in the history, but it is interesting to me.
The story I heard is 2 Greek Brothers were selling hotdogs in NY. They got into a business fight and one of them moved to Rhode Island and started up a Hotdog place there. He wanted to keep his NY roots so he named them NY System Dogs.
Thanks Rus! - I grew up in Montreal where steamed hot dogs were fairly common.
My personal dressings on those plain steamed dogs are raw onion, mustard, relish, sauerkraut.
I make my own chili dogs now (with beans, bacon and melted cheese) - sorry Texas! - lol.
- Great copycat vid - Cheers!
Sounds good to me Garry! I love relish and sauerkraut, especially on German brats.
Looks great 👍
Thanks 👍
I used to work in olnelyville NY system with my father he's been working there since he was 19
Nice! I just ordered seasoning from there. I'm going to see how close this version is to the real deal
Great looking chili dogs. Cheers, Rus! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️
Thanks Dwayne!
I live in Rhode Island. I have had many from Olneyville New York System hot weiners in Providence. That is the name of the restaurant. That's where it all started. I'm not sure if they still do, but they used to sell the spices in individual packets online already blended together. According to their website, soybean oil is used in the meat mix. Yours still looks awesome!!
I just ordered that from Amazon a few minutes ago. The package says use shortening. I’ll research it more and may do a comparison video
@@SmokyRibsBBQI’d def watch that video👍🏼✌🏼❤
Sad to report ☹️☹️ The owner of the NY System is closing....soon. He said he's forced to raise the prices (his costs skyrocketed) and the traffic nightmare due to RI DOT always ripping up the roads.. and taking yrs. to finish ... The people just don't go to Olnyville anymore. I'm blessed to have been on many late night (2-3 AM) Munchie runs there . and Wes's Rib House down the way on Dyke St. After clubbing and drinking and ...🤪 all night...The Met,Lupos JRs Fastlane... Aaaah the 80's., My favorite decade 👍😁✌️
Brother that hotdog looks crazy good, nice work!
I appreciate it!
Now I want chili dawgs! Looks delicious!
Thanks Luis!
Those hotdogs are just the way I like them. Good job Rus. I would like to see you do a copycat of the Varsity chili dog one day.
Thanks Mike! I'll look into the Varsity dog for sure!
nailed it russ
Awesome, thanks for watching!
Delicious looking dog. Recipe was good enough for me to eat it. Great job
Thank you JD!
Back when I was a teenager I made wiener sauce at the small market where I worked. It starts with extra fatty ground beef, like 60% lean. Some of the restaurants would buy suet to get the fat ratio correct. To get the right texture you add water to the meat and let it simmer. We would simmer for a few hours you want all the fat to render. In the pot, you couldn't see the beef under the oil. A long spoon was used to scoop the meat out from under the oil.
The hotdog is uncased, about the diameter of a breakfast sausage made with pork, beef and veal. It's an orange color from the spice mix.
Proper assembly technique is to line the buns up your arm to the elbow, put in the hot dog, apply mustard with a stick, meat sauce with a long handled spoon, celery salt then onion. That would be a "Wiener all-the-way". Arm hair and sweat were once just part of the experience. Gloves was probably a change for the better.
Wow, that is some very fatty meat but fat is flavor right. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching.
I’m a Westerly Rhode Island resident for 20 years now. Olneyville New York System of Providence and Cranston as well as Faneeks in Fall River Mass are the most legit, authentic RI Hot Wiener spots.
My opinion, pretty damn close if not spot on! Grease left in was the ticket! It’s 100% not drained here. Mustard, onion, and most important, the celery salt all make it authentic. We call that style get your wiener “all the way”. Haha.
Well done sir! Pin this for the doubters!
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated!
@@SmokyRibsBBQVery welcome! Keep up the awesome content!
(Jae Dev) Faneeks in Fall River !! Is it still open??? I'm thinking of my dad taking me there like 50 yrs ago... May've been another place (The White Owl/Rodman St. maybe?) I gotta take the 3 hr ride to Fall Reeeve... Stop for a dozen weiners... Some sweet breads from Columbia St. Bakery... Some chourico + linguicia from the little Portuguese market across the street.... Oh man .. I'm homesick for FOOD!!! 😃😃 🥩- Portuguese blade meat...YUM
I seen ktb saucy on UA-cam reviewing knee deep hot sauces she loves them
@@adampletcher1153 Yeah, they are really good!
good looking dogs Rus
Thanks Lance! Good eats!
This was a great version. Y'all wanna talk about YUMMY!!!
looks yummy!!
Thank you 😋
DAMN... Nothing better then a killer dog in the summertime. Rus, you nailed that one brother. The steam on those buns=perfection!
Good eats for sure Tommy! Thanks for checking it out!
Those look fantastic Rus! Killer Dogs! Cheers brother 🍻
Thanks, I appreciate you watching Bat 13
Heck yeah Rus
Thanks for watching Jorge!
You have to line 10 of them up your arm and make them in 30 seconds
I love hotdog videos! This looked delicious Rus. They say every hotdog you eat takes away 10 mins of your life - let me cash in a day of that with these! Cheers bud!
Thanks Al, I've knocked some time off of my life for sure haha
I love me a good chili dog! Here in Ohio we have Skyline Chili and it's a greek chili. The cinnamon is what really sets it apart.
I seen where I can order the Skyline chili sauce. I’ll have to try it out
I'm from Rhode Island not fantasy Island and you did excellent job Carry on!😁
looks great, mustard and onion on a chili dog is the best
Thanks, yeah mustard and onion on chile is the way to go for sure! Thanks for watching Panchucko!
Them look amazing Russ!!!😋🤪🤪👍👍
Thanks, I appreciate you watching!
That mustard😉
Oh man I got to have that grease IN! Amazing
Thanks for checking it out Rusty! Definitely grease in!
The picture looks better than usual. Did you upgrade your camera?
Hot dogs look tasty too
Just a iPhone for the photo
Dogs look good Rus!
Thanks Papa TX
Similar to what in my area (Pa) is called a ‘Texas Hotdog’. The differences are our sauce is more loose (I prefer your thicker sauce), and we use spicy brown mustard and side split rolls (yes it matters lol😉). The hot dog places around here, some of them anyway, use Juanita brand wieners. But I prefer the Boars Head you used. They have the best snap, looove those casings so much and the wiener its self isn’t too salty. Just a nice meaty comfort food. They’re also really good with sauerkraut & ketchup😋 Don’t judge unless ya try it first😆😉. And you have to do it in order. Hot dog first, ketchup down one side of the roll, the fat side of the roll or top of a side split roll. Then copious amounts of well drained warm sauerkraut that you’ve had the good fortune to be able to roast a pork butt in overnight…. On top. So, so good and my favorite way to eat a hotdog. Pulled pork & sauerkraut in a hot dog roll is pretty tasty too.
That said, next time I make chili dogs, Ima try your recipe. The seasonings you added were nice, made my mouth water a lil, lol. Thanks for sharing. I love a great sandwich video❤
Definitely many ways to prepare a hot dog and I've had my share as well. Thanks for watching this one. Much appreciated!
Brother, I'd give anything to live somewhat close to you so you could teach me some stuff. I'm good at all the basic stuff like steaks, pork chops, stuff like that, but I'd KILL to be able to grill seafood and do ribs. You're a bad mamajama when it comes to American food. That chili looks amazing! I bet your wife is a happy woman with zero complaints.
Thank you, I appreciate the comments!
Looks delicious russ
Thanks, I appreciate you watching!
A legit interpretation
Awesome, thank you!
👍👍
It's Weiner Sauce Though Not Chili.Lil Rhody Weiners From Johnston, Rhode Island
If I said wiener sauce on video, I may have got shadowbanned from YT haha
All you had to do was put them buns in the microwave for 20 seconds 😂
I hate microwaved bread!!! Too chewy
You should of browned the meat first before adding the spices!!
NO! I wanted the spices to cook into the meat from the beginning as I said, but you do you bud
Nice wiener Rus! Lol that was a good lookin dog
Haha, thanks for watching Zach!
Absolutely no cinnamon not all those spices and where is the celery salt that’s the main ingredients by the way I’m from Rhode Island
You didn't see me sprinkle the celery salt at the end, plus I mentioned it when I was adding salt. Thou shall not skippeth through videos hahaha
Buddy you got it all wrong. It's the dog that's key. Lil rodey hotdogs. Onions go on top and not cooked I to the meat.but looks good.
Yeah, I mentioned that these were not the proper wieners, but that's impossible to find in south Mississippi, but I did get the onions right. They go in the sauce and raw onions go on top as I did in the video. Did you miss that part?
Who copied who?
STCG or you?
I have no idea what you are talking about. Who or what is STCG?
Ok I figured out you are referring to Sam The Cooking Guy. Look when he posted his and look when I posted mine. There is your answer.
First comment and yummy
