While I understand the focus was on clothing and presenting ourselves in a modest manner. That is just scratching the surface. Our behavior while dressed modestly can be extremely immodest.

@@faithfulacresfarmhouseI think it stems from a void we are trying to fill in an illegitimate way. Many times we don't stop and ask ourselves what we are really needing and how is our dress or behavior filling that need. We should be asking ourselves questions like, Why am I loud? Why do I want men to look at me? Why do I want to be the center of attention etc. And in those moments what am I truly needing. Because those are symptoms and not the root. Am I wanting to feel noticed, beautiful, powerful? Why am I wanting those things. How old do I feel when I act this way? When's the first time I felt those things and what was the situation ? What wound in my life needs healed? It's hard and sometimes very painful work, but good work.
I know most people feel if we say anything about women's behavior or dress that is shaming, but I don't think wanting women to be their most empowered self is shaming. And we are most empowered when connected to God and He is the one filling our voids. Using people to do that doesn't work. It may feel like it does temporarily, but often over time you just realize your emptier and more lost than before and now have more to overcome to heal.
You're right this is a large topic! But I think your video was done nicely and is a great place to start the conversation. ❤

My husband and I decided together that WE would dress modest. We told each other our desires (I told him no sweatpants or shorts outside the house or pool and he has to always wear a shirt out of the bedroom, I decided dresses and skirts but he told me nothing from fitting and nothing above the knees) we pick our own style and colors/patterns. We are both happy with this decision and neither of us feel oppressed 😂

Amen! I actually wrote a blog article on this about a month ago, after a womam started an argument on Instagram claiming to promote modesty. She then said that pants weren’t immodest. When I responded that they were, her response, and off all her followers was that the guy should gouge out his eyes. Womem should not dress however they please, knowing it could cause a brother to stumble. We are to dress for Our Lord, not our flesh.
On another note, there were a few of your dresses that left something to be desired. The one with the gingham print, the black one with the v-neckline, and the one where the slip cuts off mid thigh. I highly recommend the book “Dressing with Dignity” by Colleen Hammond.

The problem with the pants/skirt argument, is that a man is more likely to be turned on by the easy access of a skirt than jeans, while jeans show more of the shape of a body. It is one of those things where God has to touch the heart of the wearer to decide what is modest or not for themselves. I wear pants and skirts. I have had more men hit on me and make advances on me when I am in pretty modest dresses than when I have been in jeans and t-shirts. Be careful to not fall in a legalistic trap.

I agree with everything you said. However, they're men and women who will lust even if the person is dressed modesty. It is a sin of the heart. With that said, we as women of God should dress modest. Becarful not to judge a woman who is new in the Lord and God is working in her. Our dress does not make us holy. It's our heart. Modesty is a blessing to others and ourselves. Great video.

Dear women, your bodies are NOT evil. Your bodies are NOT sinful, it's NOT your fault, if someone commits adultery in their heart - which is what Jesus says, and not that the woman and her body is to shame for the man's weakness. Whats really important is your intention. You can wear shorts to sexualise yourself or you can wear shorts because it's warm. Don't sexualise yourself. If others do sexualise you (whether or not it was your intention) THEIR sin is THEIR fault! Please STOP shaming women for simply having bodies and claiming it's the holy spirit who told you so, so it's an universal truth what you just said. This is the opposite of being humble. I highly recommend anyone to read C. S. Lewis Mere Christianity. Lewis says regarding this topic that a indigenious woman can walk around topless without being unmodest. It's always the intention (and the cultural context of course). Iam a huge fan of modesty - but this video is misleading. Modesty starts in the heart. Wear shorts, show your shoulders - simply don't sexualise yourself, respect yourself, cultivate a humble heart in yourself. And please...PLEASE. don't spread legalistic, religious, completely made up clothing rules to shame women. Thank you.

God took covering it do seriously after the fall that he killed an animal and made adam and eve clothes. I'm confident it wasn't a bikini and a speedo. God was angry with Noah's sons for seeing his father's nakedness. No one is saying bodies are evil, but they are private. I find that part if the fall was men's desire to lust the (semi) nakedness of women and women's desire to be listed. She makes some good points at 11:40

After having my third baby 4 years ago I felt a conviction to dress more modestly. I tried wearing dresses and skirts for a month straight. I loved it and slowly started building a more modest and feminine closet. It took me a while to find my style and what works for me, and to incorporate the styles my husband likes. I like wearing dresses most, but a high-waisted skirt and top and very easy to breastfeed in. I’m now pregnant with my 5th and never went back to pants. Occasionally when I *have* to wear them, bike riding, really messy gardening, I find them so uncomfortable. I’ve started to transition to finding more dresses I can wear pregnant and breastfeeding. I’m pregnant with my 4th girl and want to teach by not just word but example to my daughters modesty and respect her their beautiful God-given bodies. Thank you for sharing 💗

GREAT VIDEO. I was raised a catholic and at 13 years old I stopped going to church following family events that weakened my faith.
I recently started going to church 20 years after living a secular life. My breakthrough was related to immodest clothing.
I am a very attractive woman and I have great style, I used to dress very sexy, I was living for Instagram. At some point, it was suffocating how much attention I was getting from men, and how jealous other women could become of me. I used to tell myself "its okay to dress like this", "my body my rules" and "not my problem if you're jealous". My therapist advised me to put my boundaries up around men approaching me. But I couldn't do that forever, for there were so many. I was not gonna spend my time putting boundaries with men I dont even want to talk to in the first place. I had to think of something. Indeed, I changed my style and BOOM! No more men pursuing me to waste my time. And I'm back at church and Im very much committed about learning the word of god now! I GET IT NOW!! Thanks for the video and I love your content in general.

I once ran a modesty ministry for a few years and had one online as well that did pretty well, but over time, I realized that it became a bit legalized of what to wear and I realized that everyone is swerved in different ways by God on what is modest, and cultural differences are a thing as well as location. It was very interesting to realize. For a while I started to be less modest and I worked at a sustainable and ethically sourced bra company. In doing so, I learned even more about such things. It was interesting. I am becoming more modest again, because I am just becoming less comfortable.
As you said though, we are the temple of the Lord. The Lord will not tell us to wear certain things. It is interesting though, because in the 1800s, showing your ankle was immodest and long sleeves were worn all the time even in hot weather. I don't think God wants us to live completely uncomfortably and I sweat a lot and get itchy easily, so I show my arms off a lot. I like my skirts to be knee length or longer, and always have.
I have seen the church hurt people by telling them what to wear instead of seeing their heart. Like, a young woman who is just learning about God and feels God's spirit within her, but is dressed without a bra. . I have seen this in person. . .they didn't realize that they should wear one because of the culture they were raised in, so over time, God had to speak to them about what was appropriate or not. Man telling them what to wear pushes them away a bit at times.
Also, I have found that when I had smaller breasts, it was much easier to be modest. With nursing large breasts that I have now, it is so hard to cover up when I try and I keep having a hard time finding clothes that fit. It has always been that way with me when pregnant and nursing, and then I get small again and it is easier again.
I think one thing is that man looks at the outer appearance, but God looks at the heart.
It is such a hard and fine line. I have so many stories shared with me or that I have lived because of the ministry and the area I live in. It is difficult. I feel like I go in these cycles of becoming more modest some years and less others, and I have just started to learn the balance of things. God teaches us as individuals with His Spirit. It is really beautiful. Your dresses are amazing and definitely modest. I love them! I would love to wear them too. Yey.

The fashion industry knows how the shape of the female body affects a man, and they have capitalized on it. Unfortunately, women as a rule seem ignorant of it. And after all, we are not "wired" like men. God made us women and we think differently. But Christian women need to wake up to the fact that they have a responsibility to cover their bodies modestly. We need to realize what we are doing when we dress the way the world wants or thinks is acceptable. We do have a duty to uphold Christian modesty for the sake of ourselves, men, the family, the church, and society in general. With prayer to God guidance will be given us in the particulars. And he is so kind and merciful that I have found that often He leads step by step, advancing all the time, but slowly enough for us to keep up following. Just like Christian growth.

Christian modesty (you can fact check me using the bible) has nothing to do with sex or men’s sexual desires. Modesty in the bible is about humility, being set apart from worldly ppl and decreasing ourselves so Christ may increase. When it comes to male lust, Jesus tell men to pluck out their own eye. Jesus says your lust is your responsibility. I dress modestly but I’m not a Muslim so I don’t do it to help men not sin (also even dressing modestly has never stopped men lusting after you, you must’ve seen it yourself in the world and I’ve experienced it myself), I dress modestly for God, for the reasons the bible tells me to dress modestly for.

I think there needs to be consideration for the fact that as a married woman, your spouse may have different ideas of how he would like you to dress other than romantic dresses. These are beautiful but not my husbands taste. We are so quick to judge a woman and label her as "immodest" but maybe her husband is not for the look you would choose. Maybe she is simply in submission to her husband.
If your first reaction is that a woman doesnt need to listen to her husbands opinions on her dress than do not respond to this comment because we are not discussing the same biblical standards
But i would love to hear feed back from some other married women

At the beginning, I shared that, in my own opinion, being modest doesn't mean you have to wear dresses. I believe God gave us all a sense of style and fabrics and textures we like. I agree that our husband's tastes may prefer something over another. I absolutely think the wife should take that into consideration. Great point! I firmly believe one is immodest based on their intention, whether it be clothing, words, thoughts, actions, etc.

Another great video! A few years back I was wearing mostly skirts to dress modestly but many folks said I was being legalistic. As a follower of Jesus, in my heart that wasn't my intention. Many years later & more soul searching I have come to this conclusion. I can't find jeans or pants that fit me right without being worried about showing things or being uncomfortable in the fit. I thought about wearing sweatpants all day but I like to look nice for my husband & being nicely dressed helps me be more productive. So I am back to wearing dresses & skirts, they are so comfortable, I feel beautiful & elegant, feminine & my husband likes them on me too & he has told me he wants me to be comfortable in what I'm wearing. I am in the process of finding my style that fits me & my body type best. Fit & flare, love flowing skirts & dresses!!

I love that you addressed this topic. I think “modesty” seems to be such a touchy and divisive subject among Christians for some reason. I get so weary of hearing how calling our sisters in Christ to a standard of modesty is “body shaming”, and how God “sees our heart” and everything is acceptable if it makes us happy. God has called us to be HOLY, not happy. Our bodies are HIS temple, not our own. Holiness is defined as “exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness” and it really causes one to stop and check our outfit choice before we step out in public. I always love to ask myself “Would I wear this in case I met Jesus today?” Thanks for sharing, you look so beautiful in all of these!!

St. Paul is referring to the Wealthy Roman Matrons & roman society as a whole with the pearls, braids & such. Pearls had become such a 'hot commodity' that it was a status symbol. people were more concerned with outward wealth than inward treasure. This, I feel, is where we start getting into tricky territory, because WE aren't telling anyone - give up wearing your rings, don't ever braid your hair, or something right now. But some do go this far, like The Amish. There are problems of interpretation, historical context, & heart issues, in this area. It boils down to: don't be putting your appearance 'above' the matter of God. Wearing dresses COULD even be seen as a heart issue, even more so than wearing pants. If you are trying to get attention for it, you are using it to satisfy pride, "See, I am wearing only dresses, that makes me a good Christian", etc...(I am not taking your video this way, Kelsey, because you are backing it up with scripture & hit these points a bit) But i have seen women, make this their whole 'persona' & are definitely deriving pleasure, pride, being haughty etc...from being 'seen' in modest dresses.....I am thinking of a very large family that made their living off of reality tv, (& others) if you catch my drift. Even if you ask some of the Amish, "why do you dress the way you do?", they will answer "Oh, because we have always done so". that is not a good enough reason. The most important thing to adorn yourself with is a cheerful countenance & a beautiful, welcoming SMILE🙂🙂🙂

@@christinascatholichomemaking I never said anything 'discounted' the need, just that you need to understand WHY or you can be doing things not in true accordance with God's word. I can do all sorts of things that might line up with God's word, like 'don't steal', but not being doing so in a Christian manner. I might be doing 'right', but not for the right reasons (this is where the Jewish people were falling into trouble in the OT) And I guess if you are talking about the last TWO things I listed, then I still didn't say they 'eliminated' anything. 'most important' would imply that there is a list of priorities and there might be many things on that list in accordance with God's word & doing all of those things with a cheerful attitude is the most important way to go about it. I don't mean any disrespect by this comment & I DO dress modestly & think it is important. But I don't do it begrudgingly or mindlessly, & I understand the spirit behind it & I think that is important, so one does not fall into legalism. I grew up related to a Independent Baptist family. The wife would chastise MY mother, & us girls, for not wearing dresses. Their church REQUIRED women to wear floor length dresses at all times. Well that would be fine, except she could not articulate why that was necessary. And this family had lots of much bigger sin issues going on - physical child abuse, it came out later that the mother was literally starving one of the daughters, elder abuse (physically assaulting a grandmother living with them), ended up with divorce & the husband came out as a homosexual & abandoned the whole family & now lives with a man. BUT the women all kept up on wearing dresses. So...what good did it do - because in my eyes they were not living in accord to God's word in so many bigger areas that it was almost pointless to worry about clothing.

I enjoy hearing what other women have to say about modesty and their journeys to modesty. But you missed the mark on Scripture. In Matthew 5:28 Jesus puts the responsibility on the person who is lusting, not the object of lust. Men of God also have the Holy Spirit, which means they have self-control as well. If they don't, there may be a stronghold issue or a demonic issue.
Then you mentioned showing God our love. Jesus tells us how we show our love John 14:15-24: we love Him when we obey His commandments*. Modesty without good character is vain. A woman can be outwardly modest, and still be a seductress. God cares more about the heart than outward appearance, as you mentioned.
The 1 Timothy verses also have a very specific context -it's in the church meetings so as to not to distract anyone else from prayer & teaching. The women in that church would go to the meetings, trying to be the center of attention, disrupting prayer, & leading men which was common for them because* of the pagan culture in Ephesus (women-led sexual cults). They were bringing fleshly worship habits with them.
Besides this, I do agree that modesty is part of our worship to God & leaving the old self behind. It's truly liberating to not be remembered for your body, or for people to look you in the eye when they speak with you and not your body parts.

I agree with this! AMEN! Men absolutely ABSOLUTELY have the Spirit of self control, and need to be responsible for their lust. However, women are also equally held responsible and have the same Spirit of self control. Men and women BOTH have to be responsible. We also have to be aware and acknowledge the power the devil has to try to bring us all to lust. We have to do what we can to help each other out, to help prevent each other from sinning, as well as ourselves!

I do like to dress modestly, at the same time I don't think its fair to blame women and the way they dress for men "lusting" over them. If a man can't stop himself lusting over someone or cheating on his partner that is HIS issue and shouldn't be blamed on women - even if they are scantily dressed. As I said, I dress very modestly and don't consider myself to be attractive at all, yet I still had this man basically stalking me for a year. That was HIM behaving badly. It wasnt because of how I was dressed. I really feel we need to stop blaming women for men's bad and inappropriate behaviour.
Women should dress the way that feels right to them. They shouldn't dress a certain way because they are trying to either attract or deter men. Dress for yourself - not for men.

I agree and disagree. I agree that men are held accountable for their lust from God, and that's not always on the woman, but I do believe it can be. I am not saying women are the reason for a man's sinful behavior, but if a woman is dressing for the intention of attention, then that is a sin on her, and could be the cause of a man to fall into sin as well. The only one we should be dressing for is God.

@@faithfulacresfarmhouse yes I totally agree that its better to dress modestly and I don't like seeing women wear overly revealing clothing to get men's attention. I guess I just feel men need to be held more accountable as well. Even if a woman is scantily dressed, men still have a choice whether to behave sinfully or not. They may feel some lust, but they can choose to not act on it. I don't think the way a woman dresses should be considered "the cause of a man to fall into sin." Men are in control of their own bahaviour. If a man rapes a woman, it doesn't matter what the woman was wearing he is the one who has commited a crime and a sin.
As in my example, I was totally covered up and not encouraging at all in my behaviour, yet still I had a man harassing and stalking me even though I refused his advances. Just my opinion 😀

I believe it is shared responsibility. Women need to do their part not to be a stumbling block, but if a man is still lustful, that is an issue of his that he needs to take to the Lord.
Another example is that of drug or alcohol addiction.
If we know someone has that addiction, do we place those temptations all around them, or do we try to remove the temptation that is in OUR power to do so?
While we connot remove temptation beyond of sphere of influence, we do carry the responsibility and accountability for our sphere. 😊 Blessings❣️❣️

@@lanahundley8625 This is a great analogy & one that hits home as my husband is a recovering alcoholic/addict. I do not have a problem drinking and now that my hubby is 22 years sober, it doesn't bother him if I have a beer now & again. But early on, it WAS a stumbling block for him - he was newly sober when we met. I RESPECTED him by not keeping alcohol in the home, maybe only having a drink once in a while, not inviting others over that centered their social life around alcohol, etc...Now, if he had gone and gotten drunk on his own, that 'sin' would have been on him. but I certainly would not have been pouring a glass of jack & coke & setting it down before him every evening & challenging him to not fall into drinking again. People do not buy him booze as a Christmas present or constantly badger him to go out to the bar. In fact we do not hang out with such people, that make drinking their sphere. I would get highly annoyed if someone was coming around cajoling him to drink. So it is with clothing. if a woman is going around scantily clad or in form fitting stuff for attention, men are going to look - they are visual creatures. I would not let a woman hang around that behaved like this. And it often backfires because then they start getting attention that they don't like. & I am not saying that I think my husband is lusting after women, or that he would cheat if he saw a woman in a mini skirt, but it just is not respectful - to yourself & others to show off. I have learned this the hard way, when I was young. When I wore skimpy stuff, men were only interested in me for my body & really disrespected me (but in all honesty, I was disrespecting God & myself) I had kind of shed that image when I met my husband & he fell in love with me because he found me pretty AND respectful, but mostly for my personality & smarts. I think there are pants that are modest & femininely formed. Jeans didn't exist in Biblical times 🤷....and I also think there are clothes that are appropriate for home that are not for in public & women ought to be able to discern that.
