I just thought I would pass along a tip with what I do with my dog to prevent tear stains and keep her looking nice. I just keep a vegetable can and toothbrush in my kitchen window. Once a day, I fill the can halfway with warm water and, using the toothbrush, daub around the corners of my dog's eyes, pointing the bristles straight in to help force the water into the bits of eye drainage. I wait a few moments for it to soften the drainage, then brush it out and swirl the brush in the water and tap hard on the edge of the can to get the bits of drainage to come off the brush into the water. Then I dry her eyes with a paper towel. I have set an alarm on my phone to always remind me to do this daily. Keeps her eyes looking nice.
Honestly, as a professional groomer I can tell right off the bat this isn't done by a professional but on a positive note I really praise people who want to take care of their pups! The amount of matted dogs that come in my door is real scary. This cut is not made to look even or perfect she just wants her pup to be Matt free and comfortable and this is one of the top reasons why we keep our dogs maintained today! Good Job, I'm sure your pooch appreciates all that you do for him/her!
My dog literally got up and left the room when I turned on this video...he HATES going to the groomers...he is a rescue so we have no idea how he was treated before...he is traumatrized for 2-3 weeks each time he goes. I have all the grooming devices but getting him to sit still...we will see... fingers crossed... great job....
When you said you’re not a professional groomer...it gave me hope hehe. But wow 😯 you did such a beautiful job! Nala looks even more pretty and Nala was amazing just sitting there so patiently 😍
You did such a great job!!!😍I’ve always had trouble with the face area - now I know why😁I was cutting it wrong and with the wrong shears…what a sweet girl, she is🥰
Omg you are really good at this😍 And she is such a good girl.. my girl starts freaking out when she sees the scissors😭 needless to say so she gets a rough haircut 🤦🏻♀️ we cant even look at her for a week lol
It gets better! Persistence is key. Take your time. I always groom my Patriot when he's getting tired. He's 6 months old now. I keep the treat bucket nearby and reward him for sitting still. I take frequent breaks to let him relax. I also praise him A LOT! I start off by giving him 2 calming treats and letting him sit in my lap. When he's comfortable, I will turn on the clippers, nail grinder, etc and let him get used to the noise. Then I will put the business end AWAY from his body, but run it all over him so he gets a feel for what to expect. I bought the whole grooming station getup and he did better without all the scary stuff. Just sat on the towel I'd placed on the table. He DOES still freak out over his nails tho!
@@truthseekr9115 ahahahahah thank you those are really good tricks. I can be more generous with the treats indeed. I composed a song for her grooming process and now she is way more calmer than before. And I have divided the process into 2 days ahahaha. first day I groom the left side and tail and the other day I groom the right side and face. She likes it better this way. And there is no easy way with the nails I searched everything.. take care
So happy I found your video, I just inherited a Maltese and wondered about how to groom his face. Now I know how to deal with the tear stains and grooming the perfect face. Thank you!
Best video I've seen for do-it-yourself. Your doggie is so well-behaved. Mine is one year this month and he's a wiggly worm. He bites me alot if I touch his face. How do you get yours to sit still. Magic, I guess. Can I bring mine over to your house?
Awww she’s adorable! So well behaved and chilled! Thank you so much for the vid! Gives me an idea how I can go about trimming my little boy Toy Poodle! 🌟🌟🌟
Cotton has reddish stains everywhere that gets wet when she drinks…chin, whiskers, bangs, along with tear stains. Will the tear stain wipes work for around her mouth too?
This is wonderful IF you have a Maltese puppy that will sit still and be calm, not resist the brush, scissors, everything! My 9 month old Maltipoo 5 lb dog has tremendous exuberant energy, always playing, very mouthy trying to chew everything. She runs from a brush, scissor, comb , etc. Impossible to groom if she won't allow it. I take her out to local dog park where she runs for hours , all tired out, will not allow me to groom here even then. A bath, yes, she allows. Have all the tools. What can I do? Resort to asking Veterinarian for a prescription to calm her down?
Nala is succcch an amazing calm dog. I have a super active 9 months cockapoo puppy and even after a long walk she doesn’t really calm down for me to trim her fur face. Any other tips to calm my puppy so I can successfully trim her fur face? Her fur grows sooo fast and it’s so expensive to get her groomed just for the face, paws and sensitive part especially if full groom is not needed yet. I really want to learn how to do it ourselves just for those small maintenance trimming.
Joy Abaya thank you! And yeah she has gotten a lot calmer over the years, she is already used to me doing her grooming. So if your puppy still hyper and active even after the walks some suggestions that might be helpful are: doing the grooming later in the evening since dogs tend to be more calm at the end of the day, also try doing only smaller sessions in the beginning just so that your puppy gets used to the grooming process. Also what helped nala to “learn” that she had to be still for her grooming sessions was getting the small grooming table you see in the video. The table has a leash that prevents them from going everywhere, and she just learned she couldn’t be moving around. Lastly, it would be a good idea to practice grooming your puppy’s face just by using your hands touching her facial hairs and ears so she gets used to the idea of you being all over her face. Before actually doing the real grooming. Hope the tips help.
Great video! Thanks. I'm gearing up to groom my morkie myself. I have 2 questions if you have time to answer them... how do you get all the crusty teared up fur soft around the eyes in order to comb and trim it? Also, it looks like you trim the whiskers along with the hair around the nose? Do they grow back alright and it doesn't affect your pup's balance? Thx!!!
S T you can use a damp rag to soften and remove as much as the crust off or even a moist wipe and then use a very fine brush or comb to brush out the hair away from the eyes and trim them. I like to keep that area very short so that it’s easier to remove the crust. I find it that if you do it often too it doesn’t accumulate so much. And yes I do trim the whiskers along the nose and it does not affect their balance. I think is more for cats. Hope that helps to answer your questions! Thanks for reaching out!
Ok so um hey my family is looking forwards to getting a maltese is theyre a store we should be going to (in florida) and also preferably not online since we cant really see what its is going to look like.
Hello could you tell me where u got ur stand that keeps ur dog in place while u groom ? I noticed that in the video. u have the rope around his neck . Was wondering where u got that seeing ur doing it at home thank you
Hi, you can find it online on Amazon or Walmart. It’s called rotating grooming table for table top. It’s round and portable you can move it around where you want to groom your pet. It is very convenient to have and definitely worth the investment. I’ve had mine for 8 years and still brand new.
You are brushing her very bad,is very painful for her.All of you ,groomers, wants just fast money,so you dont care, brush fast, cut fast ,wash fast, everything is one hour…
Are you a professional groomer? If not, then, how do you know that she is “brushing her very bad, very painful for her”? Also, if you’ve paid attention to the entire video, you would’ve heard her say she’s not a professional she just likes to groom her dog at home to help save some money. So that assumption on your part, that all groomers just want fast money, is not appropriate in this situation.
That is a horrible cut. Don't look like a Maltese anymore. Wow. This lady needs to see what the European Dog Groomers can do with a Maltese. They cut a beautiful cut.
Thanks, and no I am not a professional groomer. I just have been grooming my own dog and a couple of my friends dog for a while now… it just took some practice and patience but the main reason why I started was because when I first took my dog to a “ professional groomer “ they basically butchered her and I was determined to learn on my own. Thanks for your feedback.
Such a gentle little puppy with so much patience. 🌸
The calm, utter trust this dog has for her master is beautiful.
She’s so calm ! My dog is all over the place!
Mine do the same‼️🤦🏻♀️ ♥️
Mine is a terrible squirmer. Ug.
The walk people take them for a good long walk first. It works!

Great tip! Does it have to be a vegetable can?
@@starbelen11 INR? Yikes!!!
Great idea. Anything to water the area and clean it two times per day at least is necessary with this breed.
Such a good idea to advise owners to take their dogs for a nice walk b4 doing a groom ❤

Isn't it not recommended to trim stained hair as they might poke the eyes growing out therefore cause more tearing?
Your dog is very pretty, patient and well behaved. Learned much from your tutorial and can't wait to use it on my pup. Thanks for sharing.
I can see how much you love her! Good job showing us how to trim our puppies!
You helped me trim my feisty Maltese. It was a struggle but I got there.
Thank you so much ❤

Use warm water around her eyes, makes it soft and easy to remove the tear stain
