Old Guy Paragliding-Comparing Advance Process 3 to Easiness 3 Harness

  • On this day I was flying the Progess 3 harness with the Advance Xi 25 wing. It has been very overcast for several weeks and the sun only does a bit of peekaboo now and then.
    I started out with the Progress 2 harness several years ago, and then on to the Progress 3. But I had been flying the lightweight Easiness 3 harness (both from Advance) for several months. After my recent really rowdy thermal flight at Little Black I realized a more padded, stable and robust harness may be better suited to these types of days...so back to flying the Progress 3. I'll still fly the Easiness 3 for my typical hike and fly days and for more mellow Torrey days.
    I might even get a dedicated lightweight smaller wing for those hike & fly days...any suggestions?
    I wanted to do this type of review because I just don't see too many sites doing comparison videos. Some exceptions would be Flybubble or "Fly with Greg", both out of the UK. For example, I would love to see a comparison of the Advance Epsilon DLS vs. the Iota DLS, both new wings from Advance. Or comparison of hike & fly wings. If you know of any review sites doing these, please let me know!

    Hi, Lou. I posted about a year ago on your Progress 3 review.
    I am happy to tell you I got the Easiness 3 which arrived today. I am stoked!
    Deciding factor is size. Harness size and my body size. I got the S size, me being the top end of the height range. I am 60 kg and the harness size is spot on. I have been flying on a yellow Gin Yeti mountain harness and the carabiner suck. Having bought the Charly steerable, front mounting is like getting on a Tokyu commuter train. Easiness 3 is de lux.
    Man, I love it. I am used to stepping into my harness without buckles and I feel secure that way.
    My wing is 18 square meter Susi3 and it is tight fit packing, with my M size steerable . Steerables are bigger and it looks big on my lap.

      Fantastic…I am still flying with the Easiness 3 (with the Pi3 -23 wing) and Progress 3 (using the Epsilon DLS). Both are great harnesses. Happy flying! 🪂

      Thanks for watching. I also have a Pi3 and love flying it using the lighter Easiness 3 for a great hike and fly combo.

    I own an easiness3 and have always had trouble packing it back flat into its rucksack. Do you have any advice on how to get the harness to fold in without bending the rigid form bars?

    • @loums52
      @loums52  Місяць тому +1

      I just gently folded them in one over the other without bending them. This seemed to work but hard to describe. Perhaps just experimenting a bit. Wish I could be more helpful. Thanks for watching! 🪂

    Thanks for getting back to me. i just have one last question, does the progress 3 have any back protection? or is it the same as the easiness 3?

    • @loums52
      @loums52  Рік тому +1

      There is more padding than the Easiness 3 but no specific back protection as in the Axess 5 or Success 5 but these are not reversible and obviously heavier and have seat boards…I have never flown these. I guess the Progress 3 is a happy medium between a full-on protective harness and a more hike to fly harness. The Easiness 3 goes a step further in lightness AND if you really want a lightweight harness, you could go with the Advance Strapless! That’s like flying with a diaper and weighs next to nothing…a little too minimal for me. The Easiness 3 also has a cover to protect the leg pads if you want to remove the air protector (an option when ordering). I have flown it this way but only when the flight is a true hike & fly without any turbulence….otherwise one gets rocked around a lot! You would need a front reserve if flown this way. Best wishes!

    Hi, may I please ask the difference between the Progress 2 and Easiness 3? Does it feel like it has similar protection, stability and comfort? Would you recommend a Progress 2 as a nice dune harness alternative to the Easiness? Thanks!!

    • @loums52
      @loums52  25 днів тому

      @@kanaha324 The Progress 2 was an earlier version that has been replaced by the Progress 3 which added a compressible seat protector (which is removable). Maybe there is a good used one out there, but I think the Easiness 3 would be more compact and nimble for use as a dune harness. You can also fly the Easiness 3 without the inflatable seat protector/integrated reserve making it even better for a low flying dune harness where a reserve isn’t necessary. The Easiness 3 would also be lighter but packing a standard wing for hike and fly would be tight. It’s great, however, for a lightweight or mini wing. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

      @@loums52 thank you so much for your reply! I have the Easiness 3 (LOVE it) and formerly had a Progress 3, but the zippers had issues. I wanted to get another Progress 2 just for the dunes so I don’t have to worry about wear/tear and excessive aging on the Easiness.

      Any reason this might be a bad idea? 😜

    • @loums52
      @loums52  25 днів тому

      @@kanaha324 The Progress 2 does have air scoop pockets for seat bag inflation so not sure how the sand might infiltrate this area with any "butt" landings or slides. But if its a used one just for this purpose then not out much if it is thrown around a bit. Still think the Easiness 3 without the air bag protection would be a very nimble unit and maybe buy a used on just for the dunes??? Best wishes!

      @@loums52 many thanks for your thoughtful reply!! your advice is very much appreciated here. I still want some protection so will try out the 2, but be on the hunt for a cheap used E3 as my backup 😅 thanks for making these videos! And for replying and following up!!

    Hey mate thanks for that video. I am a newbie finished my license in germany. Now i am pretty inscure about if I should get a Easiness 3 vs Progress 3 vs the new Advanced Boundless......I want to travel a lot in airplaes with my equipment. Somehow I want to have the comfort of having a seat (the new boundless has) but I love the small form factor of the Easiness3 but I dont even have a clue if the easiness would fit my Alpha 7 24

    • @loums52
      @loums52  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching…I saw the new Boundless on Advance’s website and it looks very interesting. Advance products to my eye are always beautiful. According to the specs it is just slightly heavier then the Progress 3 but the same rucksack volume so it should be able to easily pack your Alpha 7. I used to pack the Epsilon 8 & 9, and now my DLS in my Progress 3. The Easiness 3 might prove a challenge as I now just use it for the Pi3 (very lightweight glider) if I am going to pack it… or otherwise I just use a stuff bag. I was able to pack my Epsilon 9 in it but I really had to fold the wing very compactly. A standard weight glider is indeed a challenge to pack into the Easiness 3. I am also interested in the Boundless and wonder if the seat board would be a nice thing to try (again). I used a seat board years ago in my first Gin PG harness and then the Apco & Dudek harness for paramotoring. It might be a wait for the Boundless but you could preorder I suppose. Flybubble in the UK or Superfly in the states might give you a time frame. LOTS of equipment now takes some time right now to deliver. I have found Flybubble VERY helpful and they could certainly give you some insights into glider packing with all the harnesses. Carlo and Nancy are super and have an equipment match program that might really help. Best wishes

    Me again (choosing a harness is a long process) Is the fit between the two the same? as in legpad length and back length the same? Asking as im 2m tall and wouldnt want anything shorter then the easiness which i already have :)

    • @loums52
      @loums52  Рік тому +1

      I use a large size for both and according to the sizing chart I am just above the recommended size limit for the medium size so a large should fit you well (I am 183 cm/ 6 feet). I find that both fit well and are roomy but again, more padding with the Progress 3. There are plenty of adjustments options so definitely do a hang test before flying. You may have to adjust the harness after a few flights to get it just right (as with any harness). By the way, Advance is coming out with a new seat-board harness called the Boundless. Looks like it would be like the Progress 3 but with a seat board…just to add to your buying confusion…but something you may want to check out on their website. Cheers!

    Hey few questions, i have easiness 3 and want progress 3 for extra bag space. is the weightshift better then easiness 3? and also is it more comfortable for your body? with my easiness 3 i can do a weightshift 360 in about 40 seconds haha. progress 3 has wider waist strap so hoping it has more authority. Thanks.

    • @loums52
      @loums52  Рік тому

      Thanks for the question...I think the Progress 3 is definitely easier to weight shift and will certainly give you greater padding and comfort. After using their Easiness 3 for some time, my first day back to the Progress 3 was like sitting in a nice cushioned sofa chair. I just watched a video from Greg Hamerton who describes the best technique for weight shifting & other thermal flying techniques (ua-cam.com/video/2YoYz21lZsQ/v-deo.html)...a seat board is overall a bit better but you really only need to START the turn with a bit of weight shift, wait about 2 seconds, and then pull the inside brake to fully extend the turn and then control with the outside brake. The Progress 3 accomplishes this very well and even the Easiness 3 was not difficult. I found that I was relying on the Easiness 3 for all my flights but feel it is better suited (for me) for lightweight hike & fly adventures & calmer thermal days. I am using the Process 3 for most other days when a lighter kit is not my main focus. The Progress 3 ia also very comfortable maneuvering on the ground. Here's another good video from Carlo at Flybubble that goes over the differences between seaboard and non-seaboard harness - ua-cam.com/video/4ylfCjiNyTI/v-deo.html .....Thanks for watching and I hope this helps.
