RIP Desmond aka Norman Beaton 🙏🕊😭
Just found out he passed away about 20 years ago. A great tingeof sadness when I watch this fabulous comedy which I've rediscovered on Gold . RIP Norman Beaton who went far too soon at 60.
@@pkc3168 Norman Beaton died in 1994
I remember how much I loved this when I was kid. Pork Pie was a real OG.
Yeah he was hilarious 😂
*He was a real N199A*
He stil is🙏🏾💙👑❤️💙
Yes mon
Forgotten Spin off of Desmonds, PorkPie where he wins the lottery. It's well worth watching if you can find it.
Love to binge watch this comedy. Never fails to cheer me up! The British comedy from this era are for me the best and nothing has come close. Vicar of Dibley, Thin Blue Line, Dinnerladies and Desmond's are my comfort TV.
Need more black British representation on tv
So good to see this series back on tv. Such awesome times back in the 90s when tv was worth watching
BET use to run this show for us americans, first time I saw it I was stuck.
Yes,indeed! First time I watched... I was definitely hooked!🤗
Good ol day's no Facebook no Instagram no tiktok.
Amen!
Oh damn the theme tune slaps!
R.I.P Mona. Thanks for being a great actor. Many of us of a certain generation will miss you.
Indeed. She just died on July 4th..
RIP Mona Hammond 🙏❤️🇯🇲
14:48-15:08 Sean's rapping and Desmond's "Hum."😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"Ah hum" 😂
Mann I used to watch this show on SABC 1 , in RSA 🇿🇦 , I was a kid back then. Nostalgia.
I just gotta say, as white female watching this I always wanted to be Gloria- she still has that effect on me! So beautiful xx
That's because she had white values. That's not a negative comment but that's what makes her different from the rest of her family.
@@weekendwarriorprospecting817 it’s her looks I’m talking about lol I still think she is one beautiful lady...
@@weekendwarriorprospecting817 come again white values???? Wtf dude
@@weekendwarriorprospecting817 you are stupid. White values? She has west Indian values she inherited from her west Indian family and their culture. Your comment made absolutely no sense. This show is about west Indian living in England. Take your racism elsewhere. You are so typical. .
lol white values , Shirley wasn’t hooked on alcohol or prescriptions drugs.Even white women some aren’t stuck on “ WHITE VLUES “, the NERVE. 🙄
I LOVED this show; and, ALL the characters--especially Porkpie, Lee, and Susu--they were really scene stealers. Sad that Norman B. died so young. ~ Althea
I remember we always watched this as a kid. We loved it. One of the first great Channel 4 sitcoms.
Auntie Susu passed away sad used to like she RIP
Wow, thanks for the information. RIP Desmond, Matthew and Susu🙏🏾
Desmond's from 1989, absolutely 💯 loved watching this on Saturdays.
One of my favorites at that time, brilliant programme. TRUE CLASSIC !!!!!!!!!!!
Norman Beaton / Desmond, he was awesome throughout. RIP 🙏 🕊 🙏
03:28 Lisa Geoghan, great actor who also played Polly Page in the BILL (92 - 04), another brilliant program.
Ram John Holder - Porkpie, totally hilarious - awesome character (YEAH MAN !!!!!!). Not surprised that he got his own series / spin off from Desmond's for 2 season from 1995. Shame it was cut short.
(10/03/2022)
I rem Lisa in the bill she seems really lovely, I still rem her name after all these years!
While the show was not the first black (or predominantly black) British television situation comedy (The Fosters, produced by London Weekend Television, aired 1976 -77)
From the long warm nights with an ocean breeze to the damp and to the rain of London city.

Love this show so glad it’s being shown on gold
Did they bought the rights off Channel 4?
@@christopherdrennan5819 no idea but it’s recently started being shown
The show is also on Netflix
@@christopherdrennan5819 it’s still on All 4 but GOLD are showing it on TV
Loved this series as a youth! Theme tune was quality as well. Funny thing is, as I recently started watching the series on demand you notice young actors who became famous in later years.
Been watching the series since this episode. Norman Beaton was a genius, gone too early after coming home. RIP
Original Windrush Generation! Those opening credits told a whole story so did the song. This and Oliver at Large was so deep in my childhood! I didn't know who was funnier Desmond or Oliver!😆😆😆
This brings back so much memories from when I was a child
We watched every Saturday nite it was a family tradition 🤟🏾🇬🇾
Did you record it? It was on TV on Thursdays.
A great show so funny should have won many awards.

They still play it on sky channel
Is this supposed to be a British version of The Cosby Show?
No.
The Cosby Show and Fresh Prince were comedies about the middle class, not working class..that's the difference
Shove off Greg
