    Great update Steve, thank you! It was good to watch the troubleshooting you guys went through the other day, and definitely good to have the "to the point" update as well. 73s

      Hopefully it helps people see that this stuff is hard and that we all have struggles... and that we take care of our own!

    Thank you very much for the follow up, been trying to figure out terminal mode for like a year lol. Just needed a working reflector the whole time. Again thank you so much for taking the time and effort to give us a lesson for this. 73

    The best thing about the ultra long live feed the other night was, I got home 50 minutes into it, and still caught over half of it. Digital is still confusing to me. I am over 30 miles from a Dstar repeater on 440 and while I can monitor, like al the 440 repeaters around here which are that far away, I can not activate them. I am about to set up a Rim-lite Allstar mode using my Alinco 135, or about to start the process anyways. Wish me luck after all, you guys got me into this..........

      Hey Paul! The 705 is a pretty good "tool" when it comes to ham radio. I'm a fan.

    Excellent video. Terminal and access point mode are useful but highly restricted. You described it well. D star has so many different components to the system. Ref dcs xrf xlx and terminal and access like you said. Only gives a tiny amount of places to go. Still useful. Overall great video good information

    • @temporarilyoffline

      Thanks Chris! I still want to know what REF/DCS/XRF/XLX are... it seems overly complicated and might be where M17 comes in to fix a lot of this complication. D-Star is over 20 years old now, about time it started having children ;-)

    Thank you for this, but so far must have seen about half a dozen or more videos telling me how to get on D-star, but I have never actually seen anyone talking to anyone over it, or telling me how to do that....One day I may figure it out.

  • @Abisynth
    @Abisynth 2 роки тому

    Hi Steve! Great video. Thank you so much. It seems that D-STAR must go forward. Are there any other gateway ip's connecting to Reflectors that you know of?? Please update the list if you learn more.. If only there was an official list to D-STAR website with this info. I don't really get why not...Do you know why we cannot have some more gateway ip's connecting to multiple reflectors?? Is this even doable?? 73'

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  2 роки тому +1

      XRF546A is the digital TOADs reflector, you can get to that one from gateway mode. Ham radio stuff always seems harder than it needs to be. A lot of people think the "pecuniary interest" rule means that all ham must be free, so they don't think about how to get paid for their time... so it doesn't happen.

      @@temporarilyoffline Thank you for your reply.I understand the situation ...is it technical possible to have one Gateway ip to connect to multiple reflectors(changing only the reflector on the IC-705)? What is the Gateway ip address for the XRF546A?? 73' de SY2DGU

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  6 місяців тому

      Do you have your callsign in with the right number of spaces between it and the trailing number? I think it needs to be 7 or 8 characters total with spaces filling between callsign and station identifier... Also, the remote server needs to be up and running as well, so check out that server's website for more info on that.

    • @escalantea1
      @escalantea1 6 місяців тому

      @@temporarilyoffline The website appears to be running fine, triple checked the spacing etc. No luck.

    Terminal mode is great if anyone would explain how to actually "talk" to other hams via the terminal mode. I have watched many videos explaining how to terminal mode my IC-9700. OK, I did it, it connected to a server....NOW WHAT? Do I yell at the radio? What's the next step to actually "talk" to someone on Dstar?

    • @temporarilyoffline

      Say your call sign and ask for a "signal check" and you should get a response. Let me know how it goes.
