  • The Northeast area of Connecticut, part of The Last Green Valley, is home to rocky hills, many brooks, and swamps. This bucolic land has surviving evidence of Native American activity. The Thompson Historical Society (THS) has actively engaged in documenting the remaining lithic structures and implements used by Nipmucs and aboriginals in the area. The surviving cairns number in the thousands. Sweat huts still stand and there are maps and other documents describing early forts, battle areas, Indian houses and burial sites. This presentation, given by THS President, Joseph Iamartino, discusses the recent THS research initiatives which includes the finding of two early photos of the legendary structure on Fort Hill on Quaddick Road in Thompson, CT.
