As a guy who started his journey with ambitious music from progrock and not jazz, I just can't get enough of these Marc Russo transcriptions. What a great and positive sound! Shake that E Sax Bros :D!
I'm a HUGE Marc Russo fan. This solo, his solo on Trouble in Paradise with Huey Lewis and the News, Celebrate me home live in Grand Canyon with Kenny Loggins etc...
Here is an Easter monday special, what better than the tune "Revelation" by the Yellowjackets, the Marc Russo interpretation completely transcribed. Some crazy altissimo lines, especially the last one of his solo, before they return to the melody. I tried to include as many grace notes and scoops I could handle, but the might be a few more. So, how are your altissimo's? Who can play all this? P.S. yes, you might disagree with how I notated the the cadenza ending, feel free to take this transcritpion and adapted it to your own liking.
Great transcribing as always! Gotta say I'm not a fan of his sound - to me it sounds like he's struggling to get the sax to speak (apart from the altissimo) in terms of both rhythm and sound? I know that's not actually the case but that's how it comes across to me. Guess you can't love them all! Thanks again.
To be honest, I never really liked Marc Russo his sound either. That's why I avoided him for quite a while. But I believed at a certain point I was missing out on many cool things because I dismissed them on the base of their sound (which I also had with David Sanborn and Benny Carter to just name a few). But if you try to set that to the side, there are many other aspects that you might dig. And you can say a lot about Russo, but he knows how to nail bluesy gospel saxophone lines 😁🔥
@@SharpElevenMusic very true and certainly nothing to lose by expanding my ears and listening to players that I wouldn't usually! Do you have any other Russo favourites you could recommend?
Some others that are on the channel transcribed already. The solo on homecoming I like probably the most, and he played some cool lines on the Yellowjackets album The Spin
Wow, I couldn't disagree more with you guys. Imo, he raises the level of the saxophone closest to the human voice than any other saxophone player I've heard, and I have heard very many. But hey, each to his own. Also his breathtaking bebop lines up in those altissimo lines like in "Postcards", just never heard any thing like that in that range.
I can not for the love of me find a fingering to play that double hi f#. I can play it, you know, as with the other altissimo, without a particular fingering, but I’d love to have a “safe” fingering.. anybody?
On tenor I overblow my altissimo G# fingering, so for me that's LH 1+3 and RH 1+side C. It should work on alto but honestly Mark Russo is a freak so I can't even hit that high on alto.
Marc Russo is the truth. 😎
That quiet altissimo is crazy !!!

Someone say E saxophone? Anyway, why is this transcribed in a different key?
It’s not if it’s alto sax
