In my opinion the show should have ended with the 3 part season 11 episode in which Al and Peggy almost broke up, but that was not the case. The show was cancelled after this final episode aired. The cast was not anticipating the series to be cancelled. This is also mentioned in the Married with Children companion book.

The amount of Trauma they put Bud through makes you feel sorry for him, until you realize how much of a Womanizer he was then realized he Deserved this.
