  • The third episode of this year’s Rooster Road Trip highlights two days of hunting wild, publicly accessible pheasants and sharptails in two completely different regions of North Dakota while linking up with two folks who have personal and professional stake in the future of upland habitat conservation.
Hunters are the visionaries behind the United States’ conservation movement and public land system and should always be at the table to help define the future of both. This is why educating, engaging, and expanding the upland conservation community is one of the four strategic priorities driving our mission every day.
From healthy habitat and clean water to abundant wildlife and healthy soil, we need more people to understand the true value of our favorite upland landscapes. And perhaps experiencing the magic of a rooster taking flight or the whirring wings of a covey flush is the perfect way for the uninitiated to unlock a new appreciation for a previously overlooked environment while igniting a lifetime of support for conservation.
Watch Episode Three of Rooster Road Trip’s journey across North Dakota to see what we, and our bird dogs, discovered today!
The Rooster Road Trip is made possible by: Ruff Land Kennels, Browning firearms, Orvis apparel and dog products, Garmin training collars and watches, SoundGear hearing protection and enhancement, Federal Ammunition, Irish Setter boots, and YETI coolers and storage.

If you want to address the biggest problem with upland bird hunting ---- it is access. Habitat would be next. We are not going to attract new hunters to a sport where you might walk all day on land you have access to (like plots, WPA's, Game production areas etc,) and not see a bird you can shoot at. I have noticed in your shows that you do get birds --- occasionally --- but you have great dogs and local knowledge. How do you think that plays with the factory worker that saves all year to by the equipment/license and go hunting, only to walk all day with no dog and not get a shot? I have been an officer in many outdoor organizations, and raised a lot of money to improve habitat, but the 800 Lb gorilla in the room is still access. The public owns the wildlife, but until you solve the access problem to it ------ we will continue to struggle. For some reason the rest of society, that benefits from wildlife like bars, motels, hardware stores, small towns --- do want to be taxed to provide access or habitat. Only hunters pay the bills for access/habitat/management/depredation and the list goes on.

I am in a motel room in Bowman ND on a yearly hunt as I watch this. Been hitting tons of PLOTS lands for the last three days and to be honest I am in awe of the large number of PLOTS areas that really seem like very poor habitat for birds. Don’t get me wrong, boy am I grateful for the opportunity, but access to land that truly can be likely good habitat for birds is tough. But, tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I am living the dream. Thanks to PF and QF and other Conservation groups!

I don’t know if more access would solve the problems of jumpy birds and difficult hunting. Don’t get me wrong, more access is more land to hunt and that’s a good thing in many ways. But like last year my brother and I hunted the opener in Iowa, it was the first day of the season and we had birds jumping out of range. Thats just how it is on public lands

Imagine watching a video featuring women who do more in a year to benefit upland habitat and the hunting community than you've accomplished in your entire life, and thinking this is the take. 😂

I'd be embarrassed to label yourself a "dog trainer" and publicly out yourself as someone dogging on women who are stronger than yourself in the upland world. You can't even imagine the grit, dedication and the passion that women have for our public lands. I would love to hear from you and have you list what you've done for access, for new hunters and for the birds. Looking forward to your response.

Please continue to do so, but please spare the dog. No one needs to experience you.

Between this comment and your replies it's very clear you have mommy issues and at most a 5th grade education. Take it down a notch. Your bigotry and ignorance are showing.
