Hi DaveMani, in Jaffna Diwali is not the biggest festival it more kind of Indian festival. The biggest festival is Tamil Pongal and that’s comes during the 2rd week of January 14/15. If go there during that time it is different experience.
Correction - Diwali is definitely NOT the biggest celebration in Sri Lanka. It’s not even one of the biggest celebrations. Diwali is celebrated by Hindu Tamils and Tamils are a very little minority in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is a Sinhala Buddhist country! Big celebrations in Sri Lanka are Sinhala Buddhist celebrations like vesak/wesak poya and other poya days, Sinhala new year celebrated in April every year etc.
As a Buddhist Sri Lankan I love to see all celebrations. Because that is our culture. Buddhists, Tamils, Muslims, Christians, Burgers and malays we all enjoy these celebrations. In jaffna they celebrate Vesak. We Sinhalese people go to the Theru festival every year. We attend in 'pooja' in Kovils. We get food from muslims whenever they celebrate. We celebrate Christmas. Sri Lanka has the world record of making the tallest Christmas tree in the world. So don't say this is the biggest, that is the biggest. Every celebration create our Sri Lankan culture.❤🇱🇰

Biggest religious celebration is "Wesak" in full moon day of May. Then Deepawali (diwali), Christmas, Esala Perahara on July... So on...
Talking about Christmas, that's coming soon! :p
In Sri Lanka it’s called deepavali. Diwali is a North Indian name for the festival.
You're right.
And the main and biggest festival in Sri Lanka is Sinhala Tami new year. Celebrate in April. The Tamils and Sinhalese celebrate together.
