1,4-Cyclohexanedione Belousov-Zhabotinsky Reaction

- The Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction is known to produce striking oxidation waves. The solution is mixed beforehand and then poured into a Petri dish. A glass plate is gently placed on top of two glass spacers to cover the reaction solution. Over time self-organization creates spiral-like scroll waves and target patterns. This specific reaction solution does not use the classic organic substrate malonic acid, but rather cyclohexanedione which does not result in gaseous reaction products that could nucleate bubbles.

Maybe the best BZ reaction I’ve seen. This is quite often a visual overlay that I’ve witnessed during some psychedelic experiences.
One of the cooler ones online thanks
I’m not an expert in chemistry but your reaction seems to be different from the normal oscillating reaction. It does not form ripples but instead forms spirals. Does this indicate that your reaction has “directionality” or polarity? If it does is it slightly different from the original reaction?
Yes.
All the chemical elements in our world have polarity...it's the force that drives creation in fysiology, physics and chemistry...all matter has here one atomic number of proton neutron electrons equaly present. Without them interacting and bonding nothing gets created or functions.
Hello from the future! When the rings are damaged during formation, it causes a continues spiral like formation. This can be done many different ways, but the easiest is to just blow on it.
@@chasecollins3263I thought this. I'm waiting for some ferroin indicator so I can try it
And with only 3 bubbles, amazing.
Uzumaki infestation
so pretty
:O
The colors and shapes are quite unreal.
I like the spirals, normally you just see concentric rings. I'm waiting for some ferroin to arrive so I can do this reaction.
Hypnotizing! Made my wife sick tho...
how much quantity do we need to mix?
Absolutely beautiful
