When chicken gang up on one bird it is usually a sign that there's something wrong with that bird. So instinctively the other birds will try to drive it out of the flock.

I’ll second this response. The injured chicken makes for a bad deal for other chickens because of other animals. Think of how you call coyotes you use a call that sounds like an injured animal. A chicken looking injured looks like a meal to a coyote and the other chicks don’t want outsiders to notice if you catch my drift. It’s survival not a pecking order although there is a pecking order.

G'Day from Australia 👋🐨🦘 Love your channel & what you do.
    Re.: Harassed chicken
Usually the flock will pick on a 'unreliable' desirable member of the flock. That goes for geese, ducks, chooks etc.
The birds have an instinct to protect their group, by 'outing' other birds. Guaranteed this chicken is flawed in some way - be it health, genetics, temperament...who knows ? The flock & nature respond - self-preservation. That being said, I appreciate what you do & I love your videos
I hope the 'pecked' upon Chook darling recovers ❤ Many thanks 🌿🌳💕👍

Any time a chicken is not able to defend itself or run away, the other chickens will peck it to death. I was holding a chicken down to trim it's wing when other chickens kept coming up to peck at it because they saw it was vulnerable. I also had a chicken that was almost killed by a racoon and the other chickens would not leave it alone. I separated it for about a week and it fully recovered and rejoined the flock.

Parakeets are also flock animals mostly every bird species is a flock animal parrots, parakeets and other pets birds also need a buddy or two I don't recommend buying two at once unless you get hand raised birds due to the need to tame them but if you get hand raised birds it's perfectly fine buying two or more at once. Fun little pet tip for you guys (I just found this channel and I love it)

@POPPY-LOVE59 has it correct! There must be something different about this particular chicken that the rest of the flock doesn't like or is scared of. Josh may have to keep that bird in a totally separate pen for life???

Our last batch of chickens had this issue and I had to put them into our tractor to keep it safe until it healed up a bit. They are integrated and OK now. We're going to be downsizing our bird population and getting some sheep instead. They've been a money pit and we don't get enough eggs to make sense selling them. Will only be doing enough to give us eggs then will do meat birds in the tractor.

Sounds like some chickens need to visit the freezer farm. Too many, and the message is out there is peck. Better they end up in your belly than suffer the pecking order.

Funny story. I was a part time Ranger Police Officer I was dispatched to a Rape case at a park. I ran lights and siren to get there in a hurry. I get there and a lady is crying her eyes out and babbling hysterically. I calmed her down and I said I don't want ask you a bunch of question right now but can you describe the man that did this, about that time the Ambulance arrives. She said it wasn't a man the male Duck is attacking a Female Duck. I said you called 911 for Ducks! The Male duck bites the Female ducks head while mating to the point the Female ducks head bleeds. Oh wait there's more! A few months go by and I see the same lady in the same park chasing ducks so I stop her she had little helmets for the Female Ducks! I was crying trying to hold back my laughter.🤣
