A really cool and utterly unique band. I think one thing I don’t see emphasized enough in Hu comments is what master musicians they all are with master’s degrees from the Mongolian State Conservatory of Music. One, Jaya, with that incredible long hair, was a PROFESSOR there for ten years. How’s that for a change of career - professor to rock star.
Great reaction. Speaking of cool band symbols, I can't tell you how many times I drew the Van Halen symbol all over my notebooks in high school. Love the Hu. The Sugaan Essena video (the Fallen Order song you mentioned) highlights the traditional instruments a lot more. Also, definitely no Pete Townsend jumping and windmilling all over the stage.
The lyrics are ancient, attributed I think to Genghis Khan, the leader of the vast and terrifying Mongolian Horde that captured half of Europe and Asia about 800 years ago.
Mongolian throat singing is the term you were looking for - really the predecessor to typical metal growling. As for your comments on buying band merch, totally agree. Unless you are Taylor Swift, the latest K-pop sensation, or one of the legacy bands that can fill a stadium or arena, you probably aren’t going to get rich from the streaming platforms or touring. 😎👍
Stuff I read. Mongolia was never conquered. 30% of the people are nomadic. The president of Mongolia was one of the bikers. Genghis Kahn and company took over more territory than anyone ever. If you joined them their reputation would protect you. If not, you died.
Hey Mike, thanks for this! Unfortunately, VOB cancelled their tour with the HU. VOB decided not to renew their contract with their management company, 12Wired, and withdrew from the tour (which 12Wired/Amity Asia had booked).
About that three string "guitar", . . . what you are mistaking for " production" sound, . . . old foagies like me recognize as "steel guitar" sound. And they have a number of in studio videos you can watch.
Try reacting to their Black Thunder song. I haven't seen many reactions of Black Thunder (2 videos part 1 and part 2) - similar elements but also quite different. Personally, I like that one better. More like a ballad, higher quality music as well.

Loving this whole Folk Metal scene. The Hu and Bloodywood (India) are killing it.
Bloodywood is on my to do list!
If you do end up doing it I highly recommend starting with Dana-Dan @@MikeReichert

The chanting of the word HU is a war cry again Kahn had his soldiers chant as they attacked
it call "Khoomei", the way of throat singing in Mongolian.
