  • Exploring Abandoned Historic Bank With Several Bank Vaults
The abandoned bank was built in 1915. It was originally built as a independent bank, but eventually merged with a parent company in 1924. The parent company continued to run the bank until the 1980’s. In the 1980’s, the bank was again taken over by another company. That company continues to operate today, however moved locations. The abandoned bank operated for over 100 years before finally closing in 2015. For the past 6 years this bank has been inactive and now sits abandoned. It's truly one of the most incredible abandoned banks i've had the chance to explore yet. They don't make them like this anymore, so finding one in this condition is such a great feeling. Hope you enjoyed this video. We release a new exploring video every Sunday, so stay tuned for next week!
Rest In Paradise Rebecca. You are truly loved and missed by everyone. #Bwordliveson

Terrific interior! I have been researching 1900 banks so that I can renovate the bank that I purchased. We are turning it into a coffee shop. Super excited about the project. We have been searching for old relics to put in it. Right now we r looking for a cash register.

The Bank Smell inside those old buildings was unique. Anyone else here old enough to remember the smell. Was it just the money, because every other old building had the similar construction but not that smell.

10:29 Wow! I used to work for a bank which was historical prior. It originally opened in 1932 and the vault is exactly like this one! It was called Citizens Bank. It got acquired by First Commercial Bank in 1988 and acquired by First Bank in 1997. The branch was kept until it moved down the street in 2017. The original building was abandoned. At first it was going to turn into a night club but it was cancelled. They removed the vault. Last year 2022, it was turning into a bike shop. It opened up this year 2023. The original vault is gone but the building kept the small basement underneath. I did hated the vault when I worked there years ago. It had such a strong smell inside. This was the original vault in 1932 and I was working there 2009. Now that everything is gone. I have an appreciation for history and preservation. I really wondered how the heck were they able to remove that massive vault.

There had to be quite a few travelling crews following the pieces for vaults. That must have paid some good money. I would like to see a video of the manufacturing of some of those vault doors. Especially the round doors, They have to weigh many tons. Just aligning the hinges and getting the gaps around the mating areas correct had to be a PITA.

The structure may be from 1915, but those vault doors are much more recent, probably more like late 40's to late 50's. That would have been a major construction job - those door units will weigh in the 30-40,000 lb range.. The recessed areas in front of the doors are to provide adequate floor clearance for the door swing.
Interesting factoid - while the doors can be swung by hand, at that size they are more likely to be operated by an electric motor associated with the hinges. Manual operation is not easy with a door that weight, and not everyone can doo it.
The lobby also looks more like a 50's era design. In 1915 you are likely to have seen bronze/brass cages fronting the teller line.
The doors inside the vaults with combinations are not safe deposit boxes - they are money chests for isolation of separately accountable cash or other valuables handled by bank employees, such as teller cash.
The areas in the vaults with cages are for isolation of people working with separately accountable large volumes of cash, such as payroll preparation.
The small numbered cubicles in the safe deposit lobby are box access rooms so people can have private time with their boxes and contents. Private conversations with a banker would take place in the cubicles on the main floor of the bank. I suspect there are even nicer offices not seen in this video, probably off the mezzanine level behind the clock.

Those rooms in the basement are where they would take your safe deposit box to. Then you can privately out stuff in and take stuff out of your box. They usually place it in the room and then call you when it's ready

These old banks were built like fortresses giving the illusion your money was safe with them. But in reality your money was whisked out of it immediately to be used in creating greater monetary leveraging. The Depression showed just how vulnerable they all were. A lesson for us all.
