Chopin's masterpiece is given new life by Alicia!! Her complete mastery of the keyboard, and profound musical sensibilities, create an unforgettable performance. She is vigorous but not demanding. Her wonderful affinity for nuance and extensive vocabulary of touches and dynamics are remarkable. A rubato seemingly endemic to Chopin's compositions, and her graceful naturalness in using it are crucial elements in this stunning performance!! Of special delight to me is her interpretation of the section before the last statement of the primary theme. She plays it with a sudden softness and it is mysterious and elusive. Very nice!! I also appreciate her final chords of this piece -- not unfocused and bombastic. Final, yes, but musically fortissimo. Classy, elegant Alicia, plays musically at all times. She relies on lengthening rests between the final chords, not volume, to finish with a flourish!! Thank you for another display of fireworks dressed in great musicianship!
Still laden with emotions, since, the first time I heard this Polonaise was in a movie I was allowed to see as a young child. Don't remember if it was called "Lassie" ... but never forgot the as-Dur Polonaise of Frederic Chopin. So nice to hear it played by wonderful Alicia de Larrocha. Thank you!
I was sixteen when I first heard this polonaise on the radio, I bought a little 45 t/m record with on the B-side the 'military polonaise. I it is now about 66 years ago, but I remember it as yesterday. Chopin brought me to all the classical music. Kind regards.
Very original and personal performance, full of fresh ideas, drive and nuances!! I really love ALL of these Alicia's recordings you are posting, and once more the sonic quality is stunning!! Grazie mille!!☺
The sensitivity paired with her power is amazing to listen to. Thank you!

What a powerful pianism as compared with her physical size! Truly Heroic!
Many thanks for all the uploads with wonderful Alicia de Larrocha, but certainly for this famous polonaise of Frederick Chopin.

Glad you enjoy these... they have not been commercially digitized on CD, as far as I know. They are very early in her career.
Increíble!!!
I finally found it, this piece impacted me in the 60s, along with La Hilandera by Mendelsohb
