We have never used it for casseroles or lasagnas as we tend to prefer the stone wear. Stoneware (or cast iron) is not as reactive and so retains heat better. We also use metal serving spatulas for things like lasagna. That said, it would work well, its just not our go to.

The 4 hour number came from a director that tested it with a thermometer and the lid on and she observed effective heat retention for 4 hours. I dont know what the ambient temperature in the room during the test was.
