Remember seeing Top Secret at the theatres. It was packed & everyone was cracking up. Been a very long time since I have watched it though. However, as a Star Wars fan, I really like Spaceballs.
I agree Airplane is the best of all of these, always a great movie. Blazing saddles is a great movie for one liners and the toll both is a classic, why not just go around it?
I thought Airplane was a spoof of Airport. But I did love it. We loved Top Secret also, but hated the cow scene. Did you notice Deja Vu was the butler on Downton Abbey.? We actually have that movie. I guess we are old enough to remember all the movies it was spoofing. Oh, I'm glad you had Hotshots. One of the funniest scenes was him being called "Fuzzy Bunny Slippers".
I don't think any of us has seen Downton Abbey so we didn't make the connection. Many people are seeing a connection between Airplane and Airport so perhaps the movie had several inspirations.
Airplane is definitely the best of the three. The only part that might be dated - while still really funny - is jive translation scene. Barbara Billingsley being the translator took the joke to a higher level when it was released, but how many people seeing it for the first time in 2020 are going to connect her with being the Beav's mom? Anyway, another great parody is Enchanted. (Awesome music, too.) It's a little girly, though, so I won't say "you gotta see this one!" There's also Cockneys vs. Zombies. I think it might actually be a comedy, but there is one scene that is a spoof of all zombie chase scenes. An older gentleman using a walker is trying to run away from the zombies. It's got the heart-pounding music, close-ups of the gentleman and zombies so you see his terror and their mindless hunger, plus every other chase stereotype. The scene abruptly changes to a long-distance view, and you see them all just shuffling slowly along the path. FYI - this description is not doing it justice. Put it on your schedule to see - it's one of those grade B (or lower) movies that you need to see.
I'm fairly certain I've seen Enchanted but I can't remember a great deal about it. I'll keep my eyes open for the Zombie flick. Sounds like a scene that could be in a Monty Python movie.
Perhaps there was some inspiration there. From what I gather it's mostly a parody of Zero Hour. I've seen some side by side shots comparing Airplane to that movie and they look almost identical.
@@MovieRelated I've never heard of Zero Hour; I'll check it out to see the comparison; but Airplane has many scenes parodied directly from the Airport series movies. (Most of which I thought were garbage, but still love the original.) 🙂
@@MovieRelated Google airplane premise or IMDb.com there's a TON of mocking from the airport movies, airport 77 etc the 70s were a big decade for disaster movies, airport movies, towering inferno, the posideion adventure, earthquake e.t.c
I missed “ Top Secret “ but absolutely loved both Airplane and Hot Shots. My personal fave movie of that time is easily “ Police Academy “ I remember watching it with my parents and little brother and we were all in hysterics, Airplane is a very close second tho, poor Priscilla Presley 🤣🤣🤣 They were really good evening “ take out your brain and give it a rest “ movies if you understand what I mean 🤷♀️ brilliant fun 😊😊😊😊
Critical Mass 😱 noooooo Try 70 ‘s Mini Horror series starring DAVID SOUL and JAMES MASON. Oooooooh yes and written by STEPHEN KING 😬😬 just see what’s about 🤷♀️ on Google 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣♥️
I saw a clip from Scary Movie...a girl in a movie theater that was on her phone. People were taking turns hitting and stabbing her. It was so much like that scene in Airplane. Airplane will always be great.
I suggest you read Val's memoir "I'm Your Huckleberry" and you will likely understand his career path much better. He has always considered himself a stage actor, not a movie star.
Well, his performance in Top Secret shows that he had the stuff for stage. He was one of my favourites when I was young. I enjoyed Top Secret and The Saint so much back in the day.
Critical Mass BTW he also sang all the songs in The Doors. Even the band members couldn’t tell the difference when they listened to Val and Jim Morrison singing the same songs. He is totally method, and spent four months training his voice to sound like Morrison.
There is a video of Airplane & Zero Hour with a shot by shot comparison. It owes a lot to the movies Airport and it's sequels, so it wasn't really a parody of a single movie. I am a fan of top Secret but it does depend on knowing other movies, but some themes (like the Nazi's) are too dated. Some of the jokes in it were reused in Police Squad but they were still funny. I do love Skeet Surfing though and have it on my MP3 player right now. Hot Shots of course spoofs Top Gun, but I think of it more of spoofing the Iron Eagle movies. When Hot Shots was made Top Gun was not a series. It also requires knowing some other movies, like the piano club scene from Fabulous Baker Boys.
I just watched Top Secret! the other day such classic (I'm old enough to get the references). I LOVE Val Kilmer, check him out in the Doors and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang; great stuff! Hot Shots and Part Deux are in my queue for this weekend :)
@@MovieRelated So I watched Hot Shots, still chuckling. Loved the "thanks for having us over for dinner the other night, Cheryl and I thought the stroganov was marvelous. But sir, we didn't have dinner the other night! Really? Where the hell was I? And who's this Cheryl?"
Absolutely Airplane!! Others are good but that's a hilarius, corny classic! Just watched it the other day. 🤣 Still think you need to review the original "Airport" also. 🙂
Then Airport is added to our growing list. I think we might try The Manchurian Candidate, then discuss which one should be next, but I'll put on my Lawyer cap and make a case for it.

Hmm, maybe the next time we do a spoof review we can do The Naked Gun, Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles.

That question perfectly sums up these kinds of comedies.

As soon as I saw the title I instantly thought Airplane. Hilarious movie. Now I need to dig it out.
If you do, come back and tell us what you think is the funniest part,

My all-time favourite is The Naked Gun. We were going to include it but it deserves a video all to itself.
Critical Mass of course Priscilla Presley was Naked Gun NOT Airplane ✈️😳Doh 🙄🙄
The best part of Airplane was using serious actors, Shirley!
Genius
I'm sure you're correct, but please, "don't call Me shirley" lol
Grumpy Martin I’m not Correct! I’m Carolyn!
@@carolynnowak3823 Yeah, she's never correct.
70’s Horrors 🤷♀️ just a little idea for possible future reference 🤭xx
Yeah, there was this really good horror mini-series movie back then. It starred Rob Lowe I think. Oh, wait, that was in 1984.
