Today we'll be taking a look at 3M VAS (Visual Attention Software), an AI tool to predict what viewers see at first glance in your designs - with 92% accuracy. We'll be using a print ad I created to test out the software and see the amazing data VAS can give us to gain insights about our designs.

Boot > heading > logo > tagline for me.. interesting piece of software!

Interestingly enough, a lot of people seem to be seeing the boot first, instead of the logo, as VAS predicted. This seems to be largely because we are viewing this ad from a mobile/laptop device, in which we are biased towards looking at the center of the screen, and since the boot is directly in the center, you see it first. If I analyze the boot image in VAS as a webpage (instead of a print ad), the boot then becomes the 1st element in the gaze sequence. If you saw this print ad out in the wild, just passing by, it's likely you'll notice the bright yellow logo first before looking at the other items.
The design video I mentioned at the end will be coming out next week 😄
If we go into deeper design psichology even established concepts and rules become biased and distorted by every individual observer. So this "AI" is compleate joke.
@@mariusskrupskis3701 It's practically impossible to design something that everyone will use or perceive the same way. That doesn't mean people's behavior doesn't broadly follow trends we can pay attention to and use. Research shows that it's not "a compleate joke" but I guess it's whatever you say. Also, consider a spell checker.
I only watch videos in the top 1/3 of the phone screen... mine went boot, top text, bottom text, logo
And then additionally the background spikes (essentially the boot again)
Boot -> "Take A Step" -> "Towards Adventure" -> Grass in front of the Boot. Only after admiring the minimalistic grass and its shading I noticed the logo and tagline :D
For me:
1. Boot 2. Headline 3. Logo 4. Text at the bottom

same as me
Same
1. Boot
2. Text (take a step towards adventure)
3. Logo (wild boots)
4.Bottom Text (Built for the toughest terrain on the planet)
lol that example made the software look pretty bad 💀 I looked at the headline, then the boot, then logo, then the copy. I think the software may be overestimating the importance of contrast
100% agreed. It looks like the software completely forgets that the headline isn't just an edge-filled nest, it's a piece of information that contains a lot of context once you take the time to decypher it.
Since this is a print ad, it's very likely one of the very first things you'll be looking for is context on what the ad is about, whether that is the shoe, or the large type. Just because the logo is a different color should not bump it up to 1st.
@@IkeDesign I didn’t even see the logo bcz the captions
Same lol

Headline -> boot -> logo -> tagline
Didn't notice the logo at all. Also some things AI can't predict, like "banner blindness". We don't notice advertise for example.
I looked at the center of the shoe first, then the headline, then the logo. And i didn’t even notice the headline at the bottom until you told it was there :D that’s pretty interesting to see a software doing!!
I have the same sequence as you. But I think the reason is the color yellow in the logo. The Ai probably considers yellow is much more noticeable compared to brown, dark browns and grays.
Neat video! Boot stood out first by far. The software seems to focus a lot on contrast
I read the headline first, then the boot, then the piece of grass over the front of the boot. I didn't even notice the text or logo at the bottom in the limited amount of time the image was shown.
Sight order for me: shoe, top text (maybe the second row before the first), bottom text, wild boots logo. Also, while it wasn't right about when I see the logo I do think the version with the muted logo was an improvement in this case.
for me it was the shoes -> headline -> logo -> grass details.
Cool software. I might dig this
Really helpfull tool, thanks for introducing
1 Boot, 2 Header then Subhead, 3 Logo
Wow! That’s one of the first times I’ve positively smiled at anything ai related! It’s really cool and is really useful!? I definitely looked at the laces first!
I saw it exactly like you intended. Boot, title, logo, subtext, spikes.
"Take a step" -> Boot -> "Towards adventure" -> Objects behind the boot -> logo
Take a step -> Boot -> Towards adventure -> grass tuft. Didn't even notice the little tagline or logo.
Yes! Me too!!!!!!
That's a great software! 😱🤩 BTW, I'm really excited for the next video. 💖
For me.
1. Boot
2. "Take a step"
3. "Towards adventure"
4. Logo "Wild Boots"
5. The part of the branch thats between the boot and the edge of the image
Idk why the two title pieces where separated, but they where.
3:08 I'm sorry, that is a HILARIOUS use for a pink unicorn invite and if I am ever part of a motorcycle club, all the rally invites will be on little girls' birthday RSVPs.
Used it , amazing!
I wanna be a graphic designer and watching your videos help me learn alot. I try to gues what your gonna do as you go
boot -> headline -> tagline -> logo for me! i saw the logo out of the corner of my eye but landed on it last to fully inspect it
1. Take a step
2. Towards Adventure
3. Shoes
4. Build for the toughest...
5. Wild boots
For me it was Headline > Boot > Logo > Tagline
So interesting that people in the comments all say different things! Great video!!
1.take a step towards adventure 2.the boot 3.built for the toughest terrain 4.the vine in the backround
didn't notice wild boots
Your stuff is amazing dude I love it!
Thanks a ton!
"take a step" -> boot -> "wild boots" -> headline + "towards adventure"
I first saw the BOOTS then TAKE A STEP then TOWARDS ADVENTURE then WILD BOOTS and then build for the toughest terrain on the planet (also cool ad)
Good job bro
Yass! Finally, a Brandon video!
I looked in the same order that the uploader thought lol boot and headline got my most attention, multiple times.
Boot is recognizable, big, and visually complex. Then the title for proximity, identifying as text and seeking context. I didn’t look much at the bottom, it felt like background than more context.
Boot, headling, background in particular the vine and grass, then the logo
Mine was: headline -> logo -> tagline -> boot
The important part is probably that i quickly reviewed all of your points of interest.
You'd have to do some real ocular gymnastics to see the boot last
@@EnricoUniverse guess i'm built different.
I looked at the boot first. The header is 2nd. The branch behind the shoe next, and the logo, last.
Can't wait for another video
1) Boot
2) Headline
3) Logo
Logo-boot-the start of the stick on the left of the boot-title
I first looked at the boot, then the top headline, and then the bottom one. then the company logo, and finally the disclaimer at the bottom.
i see the boot first i look for the context then i see the heading second i know this dosnt count but i look at the background 3rd to so what it may be convaying then i look at the smaller details like the logo and tagline
for me it wass boot, big headline on top, logo at bottom left and then the text line at bottom right.... does this AI software consider that we are primed as a user that an advertisement has a headline and a motive and that we usually know that this is meant to be looked at first while small stuff at the bottom usually is usually what we look at last? reading from top to bottom left to right and such?
take a step, boot, wild boots, built for toughest terrain
personally went from boot > logo > headline > vine in the background. probably not the average experience.
1) title, 2) boot, 3) leafy thing by the boot's heel, 4) logo at the bottom
Boot > grass > Take a step > towards adventure for me.
I saw the piece of grass at the boot first, then the boot, then the headline and then the small branch on the side
1. Take a step
2. Image of boots
3. Towards adventure
4. Wild boots
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it :)
logo, middle of boot, mountains, and bottom of the boot/grass
For me It was [ Head line -> Shoe Image -> Logo -> Tagline ]
Logo -> next beside the logo -> boot -> title -> background
1 (Title) 2 (Shoelaces) 3 (The bottom of the shoes) 4 (Wild Boots) and the gaze sequence didn't match up
I start at the take a step word, then go to the shoe and then I go to the towards Adventure part
It was the shoe, the “towards adventure” and the “Take” And then “A step”
1 - Headline, 2 - Logo, 3 - Boot, 4 - slogan
I saw the boot first then the headline, and finally the stuff on the bottom. I don't know why it thinks the logo stands out :/
1) Subheading, 2) Boot, 3) Logo, 4) Heading.
I do have a nasty tendency to skip steps and head straight for the adventure tho. 😬
While I was thinking about you today, few moments later, I saw your notification 🔔 😁😁😁😁
Haha, awesome!
1. Boot, 2. Grass on boot, 3. Headline, 4. Logo, 5. background, 6. tagline - i think it's a bit of wishful thinking from the software, stating that the logo would be 76%, especially in a monotone design like this, what our eye's gaze or look at and what is computed by our brain, is not always aligned, why you equally have to be careful about the data from eyetracking software, it's only one data point and not a mirror into the mind and thinking process of the viewer ;). - never the less, it's a cool piece of software and i am sure it'll be a winner as proof of concept in business-powerpoint presentations :D
Boot, then logo, then headline, then tagline
Boot->take a step->built for->wild boots
I got heading > boot > branch and got to interested in it so I didn’t look at another thing
boot > little tuft of grass infront of the boot > tagline > headline
Boot > logo > Headline > Text at bottom
Laces > take a step > towards adventure > grass on the toe of the boot. Didn’t even notice the logo or Tagline at the bottom.
You should deffinetelly redesign your own logo for your channel🎉
It would be an amazing video
You can make multiple logos for the viewers to decide on a logo!
Comment if you agree❤
1: title 2: giant boot 3: wild boots 4: tree branch
boot, headline, plants, bottom tag
1. shoe 2. mountains 3. flower at the back of the shoe 4. first text
my glance was 2 3 4 1 so honestly really close just misaligned a bit
From the beginning I saw TAKE, the boot, then A STEP and only then the logo at the bottom.
1. ankle of shoe
2. headline
3. logo
4. bottom text
Boot --> Headline --> Logo --> Tag line
i did boot > heading > tagline > logo
check "attention insight" also :)
Shoelace > branch > grass > text at top
Take A Step > Towards adventure >Da Boot > Wild Boots logo
1. Top text
2. Boot
3. Brand name
I looked at C very early (just after the headline)
Take a step -> towards adventure -> boot -> wild boots
Boot, heading, logo, bottom tagline
First, my attention go to the headline then, the boot and the logo
boot, title, background, wild boots, tagline
4:08 First looked at Boot, then heading, then the logo and didn't really look at the tagline
"Take A Step Towards Adventure" -> "Wild Boots" -> "Built for the toughest terrain on the planet." -> Boot
Boot heading logo tagline
Take a step > Towards Adventure > Boot > Wild Boots > Built for the toughest terrain on the planet. Cool results!
#1 boot #2 take a step #3 adventure #4 towards
for me is boot> headline > logo > background
For me it's boot>headline>logo>tagline
Boot -> Headline -> Branch -> Logo.
Boot > heading > logo > tagline
Boot > Heading > Tagline > Logo
Heading > Boot > Logo > Tagline
nice
head line, grass in front of boots, logo than boot
I saw the boot and then the top text and then then the text in the bottom left corner
Boot, background, take a step, grass
