If you were on a Battlefield with Mortar and Artillery shells falling all around you, you'd be AMAZED how fast you'd learn how to drive those things. During the Korea war, they never drove those jeeps slow anywhere from fear of snipers

    i have a funny story!
when i first bought my army jeep, it had no brakes. so when i decided to back it off the hella steep trailer i figured i would just leave it in first and accelerate to slow it down when backing down! ...so i put it in the top left slot because i thought it was first, and down i went. Needless to say i went down the trailer FAST and somehow didnt fall off.

It's hard to explain what it's like driving an MB / GPW unless you've done it yourself... it's a very unique experience. I hope I can run mine forever!

I thought it would be quite simple to drive a Jeep

@@isaacberesford1284 it is. I drive old trucks regularly and driving this doesn't seem any different. This Jeep is dead simple, manual brakes, manual steering, 3 speed, manual choke, not much different than my brother's 1968 F250.

nice driving, I just wouldn't leave the key turned on that long without starting it because over time the terminals get burned up. Cool jeep.

How so? I've never heard of this kind of wear and tear on a battery? Technically wouldn't this happen all the time when the vehicle is running since the alternator is charging the battery as well? I'm very mechanically inclined and have worked on my fair share of cars and trucks and never heard of this.

It's so weird driving that thing, because I am too used to a 5 speed.

I'd be very uncomfortable as a passenger with a driver so incompetent.

It takes time for people to know how to drive old vehicles like this. It's easier if they know what everything does and how an old vehicle is operated. People don't realize all that manual stuff he's doing is automatically done when driving a modern vehicle. People take for granted adaptive electric-hydraulich power steering, power brakes, ABS, automatic choke/EFI systems, automatic transmissions, etc.
